The Munki's Playground

Day 11 for the Satori and the bagseeds are now 3 weeks old! The Master Kush is making up for lost time as it is now the biggest plant with a maximum diagonal measurement at 8 inches. Ogre is a little behind at 7 1/4 inches. They really like the floro tubes; the plants are not stretching at all but instead spreading out and soaking up the light. Man this is fun.

My "surprise" came today! Its a 288 watt LED array from EarthFireGardens. I'll be starting a thread on my experience with this light soon and it will be showing up in the grow when I move to the big tent.

thats different looking. no glass? each led has its own cover or something? do you know the reason for this?

I answered this for you in another thread, but each cover is a lens that can disperse the light over a 60 or 120 degree spread. This can allow for the light to have higher penetration or a larger coverage area.

Day 12 and 22. Master Kush has found a name for itself, "Icarus". It reached up a bit too high into the light and burned a couple of leaf tips. Still doing great overall. Ogre is the one who smells though. Pretty stinky for a small vegging plant!

 looking good Munki!

I haven't been able to be here much lately, but I wouldn't miss watching you at play... ;)

Thanks for stopping by OBX. Things will get hoppin' in the Playground in the next couple of months. Preparing to move the bagseed plants to the big room tonight. Just essentially finished setting up the room just now.

OK, I have the larger 4 x 4 flower room set up. Here is a couple of pics to show it off. I have a video I uploaded to Vimeo that is processing right now that shows the LED light running. It includes sound so you can hear how the fans sound. I'll post that later when its ready.

Thanks guys. Day 13 and 23. Bagseed plants have been transplanted to 2 gallon hempy buckets and put under a 288 watt LED light. It is currently 22 inches over the plant tops.

The Satori are looking better now and are starting to take off themselves. Crossing my fingers on the transplants. They drank all their water by 8 AM today so I watered them again. Now with the transplant, they have been watered again at 7 PM. Mix is Lucas Formula with 1mL/Gal of Floralicious plus thrown in cause I had it.

Day 24 for the bagseed plants and the Satori are 2 weeks old. I'm glad I take these pics every day. I just looked at how the bagseed plants looked yesterday and now today. They actually grew! Thought there would be some transplant shock. Curious to see how the next few days play out.

Lookin good!! :nicethread:

That tent setup looks clean and efficient. I can't wait to see what those bagseeds and Satoris can do! By the way, what size HID does your 288w LED lamp compare to the closest?

Don't really know. It will take some testing to really find this out. I may be getting some meters to take objective measurements of different light sources. I know I want to see the raw data and I figure many others do as well.

Plans are to get ...

LUX meter
Quantum PAR meter
Digital Infrared Thermometer
UVB meter

I will need at least a LUX meter to give you a rough comparison. HIDs seem to always list their brightness on lumens instead of LUX.

The Quantum PAR meter will be better in showing the amount of usable light being made available to the plants.

I can't use the wattage rating of the LEDs since they just do not compare evenly. Even different wattage LEDs have different efficiencies. The more watts a LED uses, the worse the efficiency. This means that a 3 watt LED is not 3 times as bright as a 1 watt LED, though it will use 3 times the electricity.

Rambling ....

Cool bro. Well I salute you! Those sound like some pricey meters.

I would definitely be interested in seeing the the technical data comparison between the LED and HPS. Please post the results when you finally do the tests!!

One Love! :ganjamon:

Will do. I love to share with you guys!

Day 15 and 25. Bagseed plants have shown some upward growth. I lowered the LED panel down to 14 1/2 inches above the tallest plant.

On the Satori side, #1 has caught up with #3 in terms of size.

Looks great munki! :nicethread:

I would recommend T5 fluoros for veg about 4-6 inches from the plant tops... less heat and energy per space used (obviously not compared to LED on energy) but I have always vegged at a 24/0 and man do you get more nodes. I have the two separate experiments... 1st went for 18/6 (T5) then to 16/8 then 12/12 (T5 and supplements) obviously doing its part... but I found that the 2nd 24/0 (T5) to 12/12 (HPS) for flowering provided more nodes in a shorter time than the 1st attempt at 18/6. The energy usage for 4 40w fluoros on 24/7 didn't even make a dent on the energy bill. Not that the LED's would but studies show that Fluoro produces more usable light for cannabis than LED's, so my final recommendation is multiple (2 per 3 plants) T5's 24/7 for veg and 250W - 400W HPS for flowering...
