im watching this close as im using 25 gallon pots right now and also trying to decide if the extra soil is worth it or as you say a longer veg in a smaller pot yeild the same results.so far for me im on the fence about it as i have larger plants right now but also a new growroom with 8 ,000 watts sooooooo, i'll need to do some juggling to see what is doing more of the work..and im on someone else's journal while i ramble fricking stoners.

Ramble away. 'Posting out loud' can be a useful tool in thinking something through, and this is as good a place as any.

ABERRATION Yes I have done both, and I believe that having a devloped root system in the pot you are going to bloom the plant in, is very important to do before putting the plant in bloom.
I used to transplant my ladies into bigger pots the day i put them in bloom. and I realized that they never really got a full devloped root system in that pot, But when i transplanted them into bigger pots a week or 2 befor putting them in bloom they finshed with better root systems and did overall better in performance and yield...

I think you are right. That's why I'm going to try it with the 9 gallon pots and see how much I can improve vigor without increasing the pot size. It's nice to know my though process is sensible.

Those are some great questions. Too bad my answers are not going to be very helpful.

I settled on 6.2-6.3 as a good pH for my mix, based on no science whatsoever. I was originally told to pH it to 5.8 for hydro and 6.4 for soil. Because I had no other input and I figured soil-less was somewhere in between, I went with 6.2-6.3. I eventually centered on the lower 6.2's. So now I do 6.23 plus or minus .03 (6.20-6.26). I stop adjusting when it falls in that range.

As for runoff, I measured it for a while, and it was always way off (low I think). I could never get it to correct. Then I realized that the white decorative rocks I was piling up around the holes in the pot (to keep the medium from coming out) were changing the pH of my runoff. Despite crazy runoff readings, my plants were thriving. So I stopped worrying about runoff. I haven't bothered to measure runoff in, I dunno, nine months maybe.

Now I just know that it works and that's good enough for me right now. Sooner or later I intend to break down my regime and simplify it, but when I get 16+ oz of fantastic bud out of a single Blue Dream plant it is hard to let go of what obviously works.

If I run into a deficiency situation again, I will assume it is lockout (it always is when you feed them the whole enchilada like I do) and test soil samples for pH instead. It's more accurate in my situation because I'm still using those rocks.

See? I told you it wouldn't be very helpful. The short answer is that I'm not really questioning a system that works so well for me. And the only deficiency I have had for months is N and not due to pH. Again, .

Wish I could give you a more useful answer. If you live anywhere near Eugene, Oregon, I can give you details of my soil-less mix and nutrient regime, you can buy the stuff here (locally made, not nationally distributed yet) and it will just work.

Actually more helpful then you know I have been using promix and watering at 6.3 with a runoff of 6.1-6.3 but was told my ph is low on the side of lockouts so I have brought it up to 6.5 and now I see a little bit of stress on my plants and they also have places where there is a strange blotch of yellow that runs part way down one side of a leaf here and there between the central vein and the margins it almost looks like heat stress except it shows up in places far fromt he heat as well as on plant developing yellowish spots which have orange and brown in them, I think seeing as your plants are loving 6.2 in soilles and mine seemed to be much healthier before rising to 6.5 so I am just gonna let it work its way back down and stick to 6.2 from now on.

I harvested MT3.1B and MT3.1C today. They looked good.

I put G13xGB.2F into bloom - one of the Lavenders is soon to follow. Maybe in a week. They will come out together. G13xGB usually goes 55 days and Lav 45, but 48 or even more is better. I just want her to have a week in a bigger pot vegging first.

Medium bloom needs to go light on the feed. They are staying pretty damp. I'll back off.

Sorry to follow this bunny trail, but what do you mean by 'really break up those roots', Velo? I'm using soil/perlite, and had always just dropped the previous root/soil ball into a new pot, encase in soil/perlite. Do you guys do it differently? If so, why?

I've never disturbed the root more than necessary. I should try that maybe. Can you elaborate?

The other thing is, why would I be growing these great big plants and finding almost no root at all when I kick it apart after harvest? I have never understood that.
