Equanimity's First Grow - Lemon Kush - Canna Coco - CFL

Dude, you will have something smokable by the end of August, but do something like the award winning cheese grate method of acquiring a taste for the smoke. Sacrifice a bud in the interest of Science or Impatience. Remember I bet you that you would get three jars at least. Those white things are your flower petals--not really, more like the individual flowers on a lilac that join together to make an entire blossom.

That green haired girl's way is easy to follow, BTW. Easy things are good. Just saying. Your next stage is watching to see your girls actually bloom. I DEMAND baby pictures in sharp detail and posted on my thread, so I can show them off.
:cheer:
As always,
Marion

There will be plenty of porn, that's a given. I'll be seeing this journal all the way through to a full smoke report at the end.

then I'll go into how much things cost etc to give new UK growers an idea of the expense involved because when i started out it was all in dollars and mentions of things that we can't get in the UK and a good example is the device you use to split one light socket into two so you can fit extra bulbs in.. getting those with a bayonet capcap fitting is impossible.

Looked into harvesting processes, all seemz pretty straightforward, it's the curing that scares me lol

I've got no metal jars, will need to look for some. I hope they're not expensive lol i never knew that about the metal; the coffee tubs are mostly carboard lined with foil, though the bottoms are metal.

I'll need to hit the charity shops me thinks :)

thanks for your advice man.

was just making sure i stated it, so i didnt have someone come on saying i told you to cut your plant and throw it into a mason jar :p i know it would have happened.

mason jar is what u will want though, not metal jars.

glass is the best as long as no light penetration happens.

Well, I've learned a lesson here today; curing buds in the dark.

i will look for glass as a rule but if not I'll maybe look at ceramic.

avoiding metal :)

When should i expect mobile elements to start getting sucked out of the old leaves?

i read somewhere that older growth starts to yellow normally as mobile elements move toward the flowers, and also read not to replace them otherwise i might end up with nitrogen toxicity.

thoughts?

Usually after 5 weeks of flower they will naturally start to turn. Sometimes they won't at all though, like my sour sky. Even on harvest day didn't have a single yellow leaf. I wouldn't stress over it either way

i see the sour sky finished. you get a nice smoke off that? I'll go in and read the end of that journal now.

edit: read it.. 2 ounces? there was like 9 donkey dicks in one of those pictures. looked loads more than 2 ounces.

Yeah, I've learned that every plant always looks so much bigger in pics than they really are, and that drying really does take a lot of its weight. Even when I look at my sour sky it looks bigger than it was. The stuff I dried in the freezer was smoother to smoke and smelt better, but the high was to racy for my liking. The regular dried stuff was harsh but the high was mellow. And it is all gone already lol. That's why I'm wanting to start flower soon on HGK and SB.

takes very little to get me there, if i get two ounces from my grow it'll last me nearly 3 months so i don't mind a modest yield. though obviously I'd like enough to get me to the end of my next grow lol I plan to set up a second grow area at some point so i can stagger two grows, and have specific areas for vegging and flowering.

I'm working on the higher yield myself for the same reason. Plus I don't know if I'll be able to grow this winter so I gotta get some stockpiled. It's either grow more or smoke less, and I ain't smoking less

I've promised a modest portion of my yield to a friend who has rhumatoid arthritis, so I'll need a little extra aswell lol I'll definitely be growing all year round, i imagine I'll do better in the winter as the temperatures will be easier to manage (the house gets hotter in summer but doesn't get too cold in the winter), i have a pair of wardrobes here which i should get two plants into, just need to organise lighting and desk fans for them

This is what I like to hear. Growers bringing Cannabis back to what it really is, a plant that should be growing free for everyone. Reps for helping someone in need.

Update

So, during today's watering i discovered a few more leaves have started to lighten. This suggests to me that the plants are racing through the nutes more quickly than i'm replenishing them and i've not seen any fresh nute burn in two weeks, so it kinda fits.

In light of this, i've added an extra 1ML of A & B to the next nute feed while keeping the cal-mag dose the same (3MLs to 6Litres of water); hopefully this will restore equanimity.

Many of the top flowers are getting bigger and are surrounded by "the powder", they're sticky and said stickiness makes my fingers smell very weedy. Looks like the final push is approaching.

exciting stuff :D

edit: one of my least favourite plants (caprica six) has started to flop over a little under the weight of herself; i've tied off her two biggest stems to try and keep her up.

If you have the room go for that continual harvest. You could put in 2 or 3 new plants into flower room each week so after the initial flowering plants harvest you will always have cannabis. If you have or want to clone then you can put a mother plant with superior genetics in the veg room and keep taking cuttings. If you take cutting remember a soil temp of 70 is ideal for rapid root growth which will virtually guarantee successful crops for years to come. I am seriously contemplating this but from seed. I dont have room for a mother plant sadly where I am at now.

Im not sure I have the skills or the patience for such an endeavour; on my next grow I'll be starting auto flowering strains so that I can have different plants at different stages in the same room without having to avoid putting vegging plants in the same place as flowering plants, it will lower my yields initially but I'll be able to stagger my grows

After continued reading regarding trichomes/resin I'm wondering if another change in my lighting schedule might be beneficial? Like, 8 hours on and 16 off?

I think most strains should only go as low as 11 hours on, unless it's an equatorial plant. 8 hours sounds like it would do more damage than good, but then again, I'm still new at this

I've been looking over the plants and it looks to me as if they'd benefit from a two stage harvest.

The top portions of the plants look as if they're going to be ready much sooner than the bottom areas. So I'm thinking if I harvest the parts that are done and then put the plants back in the oven to cook a little longer, I might get more out of them than if I just chop them all at once.

An example is that the top parts have long buds with trichomes and sticky resin. Some of the bottom parts are basically preflowers.

I vape about ~1/2 ounce/month, 1/8 ounce/week, so 2-3 ounces will cover me between harvests, but I plan on making more butters, oils, and possibly tinctures, and at the typical ratio of 1/2 ounce per cup of butter/oil, they go through the stash lightning fast it seems.
