Been growing in Coco 10yrs, love it.
Trying out new 315w CMH lights and running a complete grow system under 800w.... Here we growwwwww......

These lights kick arse, soooo impressed.
I used to use hps 600's religiously, these dont pump buds as big, but quality is killer and the plants love the closer sunlight index and uva and uvb seems to keep mould at bay. Expensive though...

I run Coco usually but just shifted to perlite mix for a lil more aeration... Works well. Those plants above in Flower are 5 weeks..... From seed...with a bit of bogging down...
Clones are 5 days old, taken just before flip....

Just fed Girls, I run House and Garden Cocos and additives range...good shit.
2 part nutes.
Ph after A+B, then again after adding additives.... If needed, usually is spot on if PH after A+B and stays stable.
I hand water. 3.5lt per 9L bucket... Aim for 5-10% run off, bit lower than usually but I use drip clean....which also lowers ph... Hence no second adjust.

PH was 5.8 going in and figured leaf curl was PH too low... After flush was 5.5 in run off... Sometimes ,as ph rises in coco over the feed, I like to let it swing up from 5.5 and head into 6.5 before a new feed.
Its not a science, just know ph in coco will always drift up. Lets you not miss too much Iron, Manganese, boron, copper and zinc, then drift up for nitrogen, phosphorous, pottasium, sulpher, calcium and magnesium.

I let the pots dry to about half of wet weight before watering, do this by feel.
After awhile its all second nature.

I will do some more tips on growing in coco as I go....

Hey Pbass ,
Peeps here probably know some of this stuff, but if it helps someone get over the initial coco fear, you will find a great medium that is only outdone by dwc and aero.... And thats just a matter of root mass.
Most peeps just overwater it, got to let it dry a lil for roots to breath, but only to a max of 1/2 of weight of pot with plant fully watered in it..... Use bathroom scales at first.
Usually Peeps...
....will see the top dry....panic...water, and bog down the plant due to lack of O2. Too wet. Or water too often.
Lift the pot... Then you will know
.
I also am old school, learnt from old books like...The Marijuana Growers Handbook and stuff. Original print.

Just checked in on girls, cold here, flower tent at 22-23C , outside.... 10C....
Fan on tent is in Snail mode...sooo slow.
Clones should be rooted in few days, I always get one or two new clones droop, when they come back, there are roots around. Cold in there too.

I use no enviromental control here, its a low cost grow outlay wise, aircon and heating not allowed.
I time my lights to the coolest 12 hours of the day for flower, same for Mum-Clone tent, 18hrs in coldest hours.
Works out well.
Sometimes gets a lil hot or too cold but overall it is great.
This way I can grow for less than $1 a gram. Cheap meds.... Yes please.
If gets too cold... 600 HPS on thermostat, come on when its cold... Hehe.
Must be on timer though, or will come on lights off.

They look great besides some curl on a couple, thats the cmh, plants love it.
Everybody went LED, I went CMH, no regrets.... Lets see what they can do.

I do have a Magnetic 600w hps... And cooltube.... Lol... Or bare bulb vertical..
I have tried them all. Done some pretty crazy grows...a few years ago now....
I will get the 600 and tube ready and just smash it between the two 315w CMH....
Bare bulb is ok too..... Got glasses.
It has been getting colder here.

When I can afford it another 315w CMH will go in that tent. I want to keep my power usage down but yield up.
I pushed hard for 1g- watt with 600hps but with CMH 1g-watt was a doddle, on tiny plants.
Buds are a bit smaller than HPS but the flavour, terpenes, oils and trichs all go nuts due to uva and uvb and an 87% light index closeness to Natural sunlight.
The plants finish flowering earlier and every bud to the bottom is solid...no fluff.

Im with ya on the HPS though, we have a love affair spans 20 years....

Ahhhh ok i see. Yer thats my biggest hate about HPS. Up top is always on point but once you get a bit lower its pants lol

Yeah theres always a comprimise in any grow.. HPS... Kick arse big buds, big power bill, lots of fluff, Heat.
CMH....Awesome buds, lil smaller, no fluff, cheap as to run, lower heat.

As someone who has done an 1800w hps tent grow in 4 x 8.... Cooltubes a must.... Lol. Went .9g per watt, but what a mess... Buds with a cooltube centre..

Your doing the same thing I did, one 315, then 2, now I know the spread is there with 3, it will pump.... Next flowering hopefully...945w of CMH love. Hehe.

The proof is in the pudding... I got slightly over 400 grams dried on my very first grow and only used one 315 watt CMH.
1.27 grams per watt is pretty damn good in my books. Hoping to improve as I dial in my grow.

Yeah, I was suprised mate.
I went 1g- watt in 4 x 4.5L pots (1 gallon), under one 315wCMH. G13 Haze topped.

Was soo excited to get the new light I ran it into summer time, and even with the heat it still did a great job.
I was going to throw a hps in for late flower then but really wanted to see what the cmh would do......Impressed.

This time I have 2 x 315w cmh, plants are twice the size, in twice as much coco 9L, no heat issues as its winter.
Time to see how they really stack up.....

Pic of the clones... Must admit... Looks like I have lost one.... So much for 100% success rate.. Hahaha.
I did have them in humidity dome and baby them, but after 10 days dome comes off and strongest survive at normal room rh and temp.
No foliar spray now either....grow roots or die!
Sorts the good ones from the weaklings.
Front row all rooted, few WW large pheno and compact, PC, Gelat OG large pheno, and PEyC.
Is a couple of Gelat OG Indica pheno struggling, but thats ok, want to see how strong they are....

Ok, been in with girls, pulling the lights up a bit more.... Was getting a bit close for me. Its ok though, by changing the way the ballast clips to shade I can put them a tad from the tent roof, had them like that before with 4 x G13 plants on a drain table, in 1 gallon pots. Ran pretty cool and filter is at tent roof too.
I moved that to centre of tent as well.

I checked the clones, lost 1, 11 rooted.
90% success....pobodies nerfect

I was just wondering the other day.... Wonder if someone will think thats weird.... Hahaha.

That upside down bucket is a housing for my heat probes. In direct light, they read too high. You have to build a cover.......
That was my solution... Dumb I know, but it works, I move it up with plant canopy to monitor temps.
