Hey Papa the girls are beautiful. The haze will stretch on ya but man the bud is worth it. Grow strong my brother.:peace:

Lookin great Papa - better than great - really awesome and inspirational!

About the leaf issue, I'm with Slimm, I think it's a potassium def. Cal/Mag is the normal response but I think that'd show up more on the leaf body than on the edges. I use potassium carbonate to up my pH - it works great, seems to cover any P issues I might have, and it's cheap.

Grow on Bro!

Had me fooled with the photoshop brother. :goodjob:

I get it! :rofl::rofl:

:thanks:

:yahoo:
That's great to hear!

Man I was pulling some leaves from deep in the scrog, and I had to put my arm in to about the elbow. I was conscientious and tried not to brush the buds. But even so, when I pulled it out it was uncomfortably sticky. I mean it literally felt like someone had poured syrup down my arm!

-------------

Now on to yet another train of thought - I hope it won't interfere with anyone's pondering of my electrical woes if I interject some new toys.

I finally got a 1-Ton Arbor Press. In 420 speak - a Hash Press! $49 at Harbor Freight.

Here it is with my old "press" the clay extruder. One does not need to be a mathematical genius to figure out that 1 ton of pressure is far more than I was getting with the extruder. And here's the kicker - they both cost about the same by the time you pay shipping or tax.

a_press_side.jpg

a_press_top.jpg

-----

Here it is with the few moving parts removed. You can see it was well lubricated at the factory.

a_press_side_dissasembled.jpg

a_press_top_dissasembled.jpg

I have pressed one small wafer that I would show you but... um... well I smoked it before taking pics. Was very good.:rofl::rofl:

Now I throw it out there for discussion - what's the best method to go from either bud or leaf - to the press?

I have some thoughts, but I definitely would love to hear any suggestions before I go pissing away a half ounce of bud tonight experimenting.:yummy:

:thanks::peace::rollit:

PS - I have two other large additions to the room in store as well - adding a work sink from Home De Pot - a steal I thought at about $80 new including plumbing and a pull out fawcet.

And I found 50G Rubbermaid trashcans with wheels at Walmart for $39! So I'll be adding a second reservoir to the E&G. I will use ONE controller to handle FOUR pumps (I hope) in two reservoirs. The number and duration of feedings is the same for both strains, but I want to give the UH a different mix of nutes since they have such a longer flowering than everything else. This should accomplish that for the cost of 2 pumps and the trashcan.

EDIT: And a 5G bucket and grommets

Thanks, and that will keep me honest! I have to admit I was gonna up the PBP as well. I was JUST rethinking in my head exactly that. And since you busted me ahead of time +reps!

So basically I'll up the nutes overall, but increase the Cal/Mag a little more.

The PBP is soooo forgiving on this count. I don't think she'll lock out from the added N or K,

If the def gets worse, then I could either use Hydroplex which is basically all P or perhaps try the potassium carbonate.

Also, the deficiency is a little exaggerated here because I ran pure H20 for a day two days ago. I knew what was gonna happen which is why I'm not panicking.

Let me explain my logic real quick. They were clearly showing the early signs of the def two days ago. The question at that point is is it caused by not enough nutes, or too much of another causing lockout. I was pretty confident it wasn't lockout. The normal response then would be NO FLUSH and just raise nute levels a little. But I have not flushed those plants since they were moved to flower, nor have I changed the reservoir in over a month. As I said earlier I was definitely stressing the systems ;)

So I was pretty sure I would see the deficiencies get worse quickly with a day of water, but I wanted to drain the res and clean things out and start fresh from here on out. Remember that each pot also has its own mini reservoir of about 2G sitting at the bottom, so that needed to be flushed as well. I have been fluctuating the nute mix much more than normal trying different things for the Volde and some of it crept into that mix as well. Mistake. I needed to even out the levels or I will see lockout.

They will get a nice healthy and well balanced feeding tonight, and we'll see how they do. Should be interesting. I predict 7-10 days for no more deficiency.

Re: Papa Green's Utopian Sub v2 - You, Me, and Barney's Farm makes 3 - Perpetual 2000

Thanks, man. I'm gonna post on the electric right now. There's nothing more rude than keeping someone waiting who's offered to help.

Really glad in a way to hear your leaves have curled as well. I don't see any real negative effects from it. Mine seem to be growing slowly but constantly as well. It really is amazing how bloated and fat each calyx gets on this strain.

The Dozer is Photoshoped in. ;)

The blue light is from white balancing to the yellow of the HPS then using a flash. Everywhere there's flash, but no HPS it goes blue. This one was significantly more blue than usual. But the color of the leaf was right so I kept it.

Thanks to all I didn't quote - I promise I read them all.

I think I'm gonna go with the Cal/Mag/Zinc answer as well. I believe this deficiency was caused by easing back off my normal cal/mag amounts because of the Volde. So I will return to 7-10ml/G for these plants and we'll see what happens. I predict they will recover fairly quickly. Thanks everyone for the help!

---------------------------------

Electrical Situation:

Before I start this convo - I want to be perfectly clear that I am NOT an expert on this stuff. I know just enough to get myself in trouble. So please do not hesitate to point out even the most basic of mistakes, hints, or corrections.

I have a sub panel in the room:
breaker_box.jpg

The other end runs to a 60A breaker at the Main.

The top fuse in this panel is a 50A but it only needs 30A for the AC. So that leaves me a remaining 30A I think.

Two of the other fuses are allocated to the built in lights in the room. They are never on, and I may tap off one or both for any future expansion.

Of the remaining drops - they are all 20A fuses with 12 or 14 wire in the wall. Some would be suitable for 220 as is I believe?

So the current loads are:

Veg Room Drop 1:
Another standup A/C that needs 5.7A. 2x400w lights that use 4.6A each. A wall fan. And one 296gph pump. That load is pretty much maxed out I'd say.

Veg Room Drop 2: Circulating fan low wattage and amperage - I'll get numbers later if necessary. 120v 40w green cfl worklight. 600w 5.8A electronic ballast. 24" Floor Fan - low wattage and amperage - will check later. Again - pretty much maxed.

Flower Room Drop 1:
A dual 600w magnetic ballast 6.8A I think. The dual shares power with the Ebb and Grow controller which powers two 296gph mag drive pumps. I have not put the kill-a-watt on there yet for a real answer on wattage or amperage. When lights are off, there's a green 120v 40w cfl that comes on.

Flower Room Drop 2:
2 x 600w Electronic ballast pulling 5.8A I think. 2x 296gph mag drive pumps for the scrog.

Controller Drop:
The CHHC1 has a dehumidifier and the CO2 Generator plugged in. Not sure on amperage on either off the top of my head. There's also a 6" fan that comes on when the CO2 comes on and an 18" floor fan that blows 24/7 by the A/C.

If you add all that up - its more than 30A for sure. But its never all running simultaneously. But its definitely close.

So here's the $1M question:

If I want to add two more 1K lights and a small A/C - what should I do?
Also, should I think about trying to move to 220 for what I currently have to reduce the amperage?

And please don't say,"Change the sheets and light a cigarette!"

I'm sure I've left out lots of necessary info, but this should get the convo started.

TIA!!!!

:thanks::peace::rollit:

Ya that will give me a starting point on what you have and what you want... Let me ask ya this... how far our we from the Main box and how big is that box? You still have spots left for big breaker's? And I need to know the gauge of wire that runs to that sub panel. I'm high right now, I will give you tips pointers as in do this, don't do this type stuff in the AM... :peace:

Re: Papa Green's Utopian Sub v2 - You, Me, and Barney's Farm makes 3 - Perpetual 2000

nice looking plants....gee, it looks like my garden...lol....except you got more buds and prettier plants.....great pics, and i'm sleep bound.....will post pics tomorrow....and i answered your question....night, lavendar:welldone::bravo:

Re: Papa Green's Utopian Sub v2 - You, Me, and Barney's Farm makes 3 - Perpetual 2000

Mini Update:

Going to go take pics and check the rest of that wiring for you now, Mule.

Lavendar, I'm sure your notebooks pay off in spades. I have tried it, but I just find I'm not thorough enough. That's why I tend to be so verbose up here. I DO go back and check my online journal(s) for info.

The good news for the day is that my Phish tickets arrived in the mail! Gonna go to at least two shows in NC and I may go to another one in NY. Anyone else going to be in Raleigh or Charlotte?

The bad news is that my darn mini-split A/C is acting up again. Hrmmm. Not sure yet what to think. Last time I was hoping was bad cap, but it turned out to be a small leak. It was filled and sealed a month ago I thought. So I guess this time I hope its a bad cap! Cause if its leaking it could be tricky to get fixed.

Now I'm gonna go do stuff for the next few hours while I have lights in the room. Then its off to work.

I owe, I owe,....

I have never really listened to Phish, but given that they are an iconic band, I have been kicking around the idea of going to the June 29th NY show @ CMAC. It's a great outdoor venue (With a huge roof), right on Canandaigua Lake. Its a small town, but its a very nice area. Theres a Casino a few miles away, the other Fingerlakes and wine regions, etc.

Also, the garden... as always, looks stellar! My buddy harvested his UH Monday. 88 Days after 12/12. I'm hoping for a poorly dried sample by Monday!

Keep on Keepin' on!

Re: Papa Green's Utopian Sub v2 - You, Me, and Barney's Farm makes 3 - Perpetual 2000

OK let's let's start with safety first I'm not putting this info out to "scare" anyone in to not doing it themselves. Common sense and safety go hand in hand...

Always when around main or sub panels like you have there. Work with one hand in your pocket. NEVER put two hands any where near that box! Not to steady a screw driver, not to lean your arm on NEVER not even with the box off!!! The one hand gives the current no path to flow thru if your wearing good rubber soled shoes. Both arm's on the box gives it a path right across your heart think of your veins as wires at that point... And if you do get shocked as "drawn in" not just "bit" by it... Get to a DR NOW! If it takes a path thru your heart it can lose it's ability to absorb o2 from your blood and it... Just get to the dam DR!

Tie your hair back in a ponytail, take off all rings, body jewelery take that crap out anyways... :smokin: wear good rubber soled shoes not your flip flops...

All wires are hot! even if you just shut the power down, work as though they are live. Try to build "habits" and that one time you did forget to kill the power those habits pay off...

Hot, power, live, wire All the same thing...

In a common household you have 2 phase 220-240 power coming in the house at the main when you take off the door cover You can use 2 hands for that the ONLY TIME. You will see 2 "legs" of power both black big wire one going down the L and R row of breakers. Those two wires and ALL of their junctions are always HOT! Unless you pull the meter head... Don't do that!
OK we had 2 phase 220-240 we put one side on the left, one on right set of breakers and that now makes it single phase 110 to each side. This is the black wire that comes out of the breaker. So hots are black, (and red but were not there yet) ;)

Common, white, neutral, wire All the same thing...
It's the "return leg" so to speak in AC current it should not be "hot" Unless some one wired it wrong then bam trip to the ER treat it as hot!

Green, ground, earth ground All the same...
If it's hot MOVE!

OK one more thing for this post as not to have a wall of text...

Thanks for Phish I was in the perfect place head wise to enjoy it!:bravo:

Right on guys! I actually forgot to post the beginning of the song - with a medley from the previous song - with such great lines as "What a beautiful buzz..."

A little tidbit if you're not familiar with Phish - they're a Jam band. They will never play the same song twice the same way. They will almost never play the same song two nights in a row, and actually folks get miffed if they play the same song twice on an entire tour!

Antelope is one of their trademark jams - always starts differently and as quiet as they can get it - and always ends as loud and crazy as they can. Then they bring it right back to the beginning to remind you where you started your trip! And you never know if its gonna be a 7 minute song or a 15 minute song.

Great summary and tips to get started. We're definitely on the same page. I got some further pics:

The distro panel - the green dot goes to the room. I have not done anything to this panel. I moved in 5 years ago.

Inside - green dots:

I'm not sure what gauge that wire is going underground to the garage. Its a run of about 75'.

I noticed while taking the pics that the legs are not balanced. As I understand it this is something I should do?

TIA! Great help already. +Reps when I can.

:thanks:

Next post will focus on the deficiencies, but I figured I give a teaser of what I think will be my first POM entry next month. This is the stem from my biggest Utopia Haze. That is a 12oz can of Sprite for reference. The stem is about half the size of the can. I think the entire plant is 5-6' long/tall with 3 or 4 beautiful colas. We'll know when I cut away the others in a few weeks.

Def Day 1 of recovery - 05_13

Ok here is the problem leaf today:
def_leaf_05_13.jpg

We are going to proceed under the hypothesis that its one or more of the 4 deficiencies we listed earlier - Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Phosphorous. I am pretty sure its a def because I have not really pushed these plants, and its showing first on the ones getting the most light. For those not familiar with this little trick - its handy and intuitive. Deficiencies will show first in plants with lots of light because they use up the nutes. Overdoses will show in the ones getting less light. Lockout shows like a deficiency.

As I stated - normally I would just adjust the nutes, but this time I did a flush before changing the res. So we'll pick up the story at the res change:

Step #1 - make sure the E&G is on Drain cycle. If you fill while is pumping to the buckets, when it drains back to the res it will overflow. Also, notice the cube taps - starting to prep for adding the other res.
res_change_fillondrain_05_13.jpg

Step #2 - Drain the res, clean it, refill with water. My water is 60-80 ppm from the tap.
res_change_empty_05_13.jpg

res_change_clean_refill_05_13.jpg

Step #3
Add nutes. I used the following for a 35G res:

120ml PBP Grow
460ml PBP Bloom
590ml PBP Bloom Soil
350ml Liquid Karma
350ml Cal/Mag+
120ml Hydroplex
60ml Silica

Check ppm:
res_change_1580ppm_05_13.jpg

bring pH to right level (it was flipping between 5.7 and 5.8 so that's what I like a 5.75):
res_change_5_8pH_05_13.jpg

And for good measure - a check of the temp:
res_change_72f_05_13.jpg

Now we wait and see...

Tell me that Fishman the drummer is not sick!!!!!! He wears a dress and plays barefoot. I have seen him stand up and sing Neil Diamond in the middle of a show! Or walk out from behind the drums and play a Vacuum Cleaner while the guitarist goes to the drums.

Possible BOM

I was thinking of entering this in BOM, but its not a slam dunk.

Here are some other shots of the same AK bud with a nice Strawberry Diesel bud that could also be a BOM contender, but neither a favorite I don't think. At least not by my standards.

Hey Papa, We are going to pick this up tomorrow in the AM, I have a few suggestions and of course we still need to go thru the rest of sparky 101 lessons...

Until then a little more info is here on pulling a 220-240 circuit over 75 feet...
