Pineapple Chunk Hydro Grow From Seeds

I hear you, I don't need a bunch of hermie seeds. I'll keep an eye on them for a day or two, if more show up, I am going to pluck it. Can just one of these pollinate my whole crop?

One plant certainly can, and then some! One flower can definitely make a lot of seeds- but not the whole crop. As long as you're not seeing any yellow (open) flowers you should be ok.

I've gotten out my exacto knife out and will surgically remove any I see. If I get 95% of them I should be ok. I can live with a few seeds. But if they start showing up a lot, I will have to pull it. Thanks for all the info everyone!

Day 40: I waited outside the tent for the lights to come on so I could do an immediate check. What I found was not good, so I chopped it down. I did not see any yellow flowers but I did see many more balls and some of them had a yellow tint. So I chopped it down.

Yesterdays overview:

And after the chop. It was the middle plant on the left which now holds the runt plant that was in the back right. So one plants misfortune may help another get more light and do better.

You can see the runt here already looking happier, it wasn't easy getting to her, but she survived intact.

The plant was pretty large filled a third of a garbage bag. Had lots of bud sites but also lots of little balls.

You can see the stalk was getting quite large for only 40 days.

I appreciate the quick response and help from Weaselcracker, Sonora and Heraldo, you helped save my crop and earn my thanks.

I had a feeling the hermie thing would go this way. I never worry much about chopping plants either. It always makes more room for the others. I live in the moment, and the perpetual grow keeps on growing... :thumb:

What are you up to with that there netting? Do you plan on being more scrog-like and tying some limbs down, etc, or is it more of a casual support structure?

It's something I'm trying this time. In the past I bought trellis's and they did not work well. I used 16 gauge baling wire to make it so its fairly strong. I am using it for support and some lst. I am starting to bend over the some of the branches to open up more bud sites to the light. I usually just end up with jungle growth in the tent with all the plants intertwined amongst themselves. It is actually working well for me because I can bend and move the wires around to where I need them. If I need to get a branch into position its easy to move around the wires to fit them in.

Day 42 Update:
The good news no more hermies. The remaining five look all to be solidly female. I have three that are growing quite nicely. And two runts. One of the runts doesn't look like its the same strain. Its leaves are a lighter green, but its growing buds that's all I care about. Here are the pictures:

Overview:

This is the tall one in the back left.

Middle right, this one has been bent over a little.

Here is the runt, its starting to grow some buds.
P1014989_edited.jpg

In this picture you can see lots of bud sites coming in. In 6-7 weeks those will have all fattened up into big cola's.

Here's some bud kiddie porn! A nice close up of main bud on the plant in the right front.

I also did some prep today for the next grow. I plan on a single plant grow in my small veg tent. I want to grow a plant to enter into the Plant of the Month Contest. I have a Fem Jack Herer seed and two reg White Widow seeds. I want a pretty plant with lots of color so maybe I'll buy some more seeds for that grow. Any suggestions?

Here is my small tent with my DIY E&F System. Instead of the six small pots I veg'd my current grow in, I've install a 10" Net Pot. I plan on lots of training to make the plant fill the entire tent side to side.

Here is the net pot in the tent. By using a net pot it will allow the roots to fill the bottom of the tray.

I hollowed out a 6" rockwool cube to fit a peat cup into:
P1014993.JPG

Like this, I will germinate the seed in the peat pot using starter soil, just like my PC grow.
P1014994.JPG

Put the whole thing into the net pot and surround with Hydroton and I'm good to go.
P1014995.JPG

I figured I would fill the time in between larger grows with single plant grows. Plus it adds to the variety.

So lets hear your suggestions for a strain. It needs to be relatively short so it will probably need to be an Indica.

Day 44: Update
Couple of more days of growth, no issues. I did forget to do the res change on Monday. I looked at the schedule and the nutrient mix was to remain the same, so we're going two weeks between res changes this time.

Overview picture: It's gotten a little bushier, but the three big plants have slowed down on height and starting to branch out.

Back left plant has lots of bud sites.

The Big One (new nick name) is getting bent over a little. It's main bud is going to be huge. Will probably have the support going the other way to hold it up when it gets more mature.

This is from two days ago. I know, I know, but I swear I can see the difference!

Day 46 Update:
The ladies are doing fantastic. Tomorrow is a res change day. The buds are starting to firm up and are getting fatter, and they have been on an early bloom feeding schedule. Will be bumping up the nutes and should see even more progress. I touched one of the buds tonight, gave it a light squeeze. Well then I smelled my finger and WOW, (no rude comments now!) the fragrance of the bud was very enticing. I once helped a roommate grow a couple of plants back in the mid 80's. To this day I remember the fragrance and taste of that bud and have been trying to get back there ever since. We are talking 25 years here. When I smell the terpenes coming off that bud, I was instantly transported 25 years. Now its going to drive me nuts over the next few months that I will have to wait. I may have to do my trimming inside the tent with the fan on to hide the smell, its a good thing! Anyway here are the pictures.

Overview picture, the jungle is growing!

I have never used a flavoring bloom nutrient like I am doing this time. It's GH Pineapple Nectar, since its Pineapple Chunk it should go together well. So far so good!

The smell is just beginning, trust me. The smell that comes of that strain is best described as fumes. You can almost feel that the air is thicker around it. It's actually the one strain that I take extra care not to touch much without gloves- it's so dank, sticky, and smelly. It makes it hard to sleep at night if I have it on my fingers because I keep smelling it all night.

I should get lots of finger hash at harvest time! And I have one of those bud buddy harvest trays with the fine mesh that catches all the trichs that fall off the bud during trimming. Should make a tasty treat.

Day 57 Update:
The plants are healthy, but I only have three that look like they will produce anything. The two runts are looking weak. The main buds look like popcorn buds. I was able to look at the roots and they are fine, so maybe I just got some bad seeds. Three out of six is not a very good percentage. The three that are producing are going great!

Overview Picture:
P1015034_edited.jpg

This is the front right plants main bud and it is massive. The cola's are real fat and bunching up nicely.
P1015035_edited.jpg

This is the center right plant, its looking a little scrawny, but I know it will fill in over the next three to four weeks I have left. But by bending it over there are lots of secondary bud sites that are doing nicely.
P1015036_edited.jpg

Back left plant, is doing real well. It has tons of bud sites that are super dense.
P1015037_edited.jpg

This is the front left plant. It actually looks better in the picture than in real life. I just hope the quality of the bud is still good even if the volume is not there.
P1015038.JPG

This one is even worse than the other one.
P1015039.JPG

After the next res change on Monday I will be 4 weeks from harvest. I am going to start reducing the light by 15 min a day until I get to 10 hours of light. So the final week and a half will be at 10 hours. Do you think I could go to 9 hours? By all accounts I've read this increases the trichome production significantly.

With the problems I'm having with the runts, I don't think I will get the 700 grams dry that I got in the past, so I may have to grow another crop. I am hesitant to use the remaining PC seeds (4). Seeds are so expensive to buy, that I hate to grow extra, for just in case situations, but I may have too.

Anyway sorry for the long lapse between updates.

Reducing the daylight hours may improve them in some ways, but it's also known to decrease yield. So it's kind of a balancing act. I don't see many people reduce below 10 hours.
