Yeah captain I think it's going to be a strange holiday time this year.

Here are a couple of bfr cakes. They have been fruiting for a few weeks now. So the first still has some life left in it but not much.it still has white fuzzy bits growing. The discolouration is actually quite blue irl so that's just bruising where I picked a mushroom before. The second is kaput. Straight away just looks nasty. Banished to the garden but thanks for your service.

Question: Where do you get your agar plates? I'm looking around this morning, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for. They have "pre-poured agar plates" with swabs, regular petri dishes...etc.
I should have paid more attention in Science class......

Hi @Lady Cannafan I get pre poured meat plates from a supplier in Australia. But maybe sponsors do something similar. Let's try a shout out. @Spore Genetics. And @Midwest Grow Kits. I wish I could remember my science classes better. At the time I didn't realise it would have paid off for a feind like me. My son starts highscool next year so I might get a refresher course from him.

I'm going to try out some of Midwest Grow Kits Rapid Rhyso pre-poured petri dishes. A 5-pack is 12 dollars. I have 5 (or will have shortly) jars of inoculated liquid culture I need to test for contams before I can use them to noc up grain.

Sounds like good move becca. I think it's fun watching mycellium growing on the agar. Even if it's infected still looks cool. Growing mushrooms reminds me of those ant farms I had when I was a kid. You get to see what's normally hidden under the ground.

Got a big bag of birdseed for grainspawn and the bag split when I was lifting it out of the car it's gone everywhere. And now my pressure cooker died. No myco tonite. I wanted to upgrade to something bigger anyway.

My apologies I haven't attented to my journal for a while. Going through some crazy break up with the wife. Will get back into it when new living arrangements are made. At least we got to see some monotub shrooms.

So. Mrs Hitler has departed and the dust has settled. Moved into a new place. I've got my myco gear back and it looks like the laundry is the place to set up. My old apprentice from work just gave me a bunch of genetics to play with. Things are looking up.

Hey @Tokin Roll. I am thinking of working through them one or two at a time. I haven't worked with spore swabs before but I am planning on growing it out on agar plates then transfer to grain spawn or go liquid culture. Or maybe both. Then mono tubs most likely. The foils bits are spores from the last run of blue meanies. I made some spore syringes from one of those yesterday. I will probably stick em in some uncle Ben's tomorrow. I learnt a while ago that spore syringes need at least a day to soak to be effective.
The penis envy are the ones that really interest me but I am doing lizard king first for practise.the lizard came out after I did the lizard king swab. I ran out of clean water and hap heaps of spores left on the foil.

Those spore syringes look great.
You should not have any problem inoculating with those.

I started making spore prints for later use, but I just have tidal Wave so far.
I do have some JMF making an appearance in one of my tubs, but still need a day or so.

Nothing to see on the agar so far. Not sure if it was a dud or not. But I did some uncle Ben's the other day. Still too early to tell yet. Will follow up with some pics when there is something interesting to see.
Had. 2.5 g blue meanies last. Feeling so fresh today.

So finally something to see. The first uncles Ben's is no good. U might be able to see it kinda juicy in there and definitely no nice white bits. The thing u can't pick up is the nasty smell. The others are fine so far. The swabs have done nothing. The agar plates were kind of old so I will get some fresh ones and have another try.
