Jarhed's First Grow-Indoor-Come Visit My Garden - Opinions & Advice Welcomed

hi mate, just remember though that quick drying wont give you good results like a slow 2 or 3 week dry, basically when you slow dry the chlorophyll breaks down properly and it stops you getting that leafy taste, a quick dry does dry the bud but you wont get the taste of a slow dry due to the chlorophyll not breaking down as much, instead a quick dry just dries it out without the break down needed.

but saying that when i quick dried a few buds off my nl x bb they tasted the same as a slow dried bud. but the kush was not nice after a quick dry but after a long slow dry it tasted a whole lot better, i didnt like it when i quick dried it and thought i wouldnt like the slow dried, but when it had dried i soon found that it tasted nice and i did acctually like it, so i wouldnt go and dry it super quick just try and slow it down slightly and you will get a whole lot better bud in the end. you could always quick dry a few buds to keep you going while the rest is drying slowly, thats what i have been doing, i take a sample from each strain and dry it on some paper on top of my hps ballast and then i have got something to smoke, but its not the best way to do it as it really does dry it to quick

Well first lemme just say Chem D is a incredible strain. I never actually had to sort out the split trunk. It just holds itself up and has kinda gotten all biig and hard like a small tree. If you check the most recent pics in my journal those buds are just 1 week old and on the split trunk chem d. It is looking like the Chem D could be a massive yielder.

I guess our journals dont get much visitors because not many care about noob grows lol. Id say for a noob grow yours is a success 10/10. Mine is on the way to being a good sucess too, lets just hope it stays that way. I will have atleast 9 more weeks untill everything is harvested.

MY huge boxes got all their soil in them finally (its about 2500-5000 pounds of soil i had to haul around shovel and rake), I just gotta build my little frames for hanging trellises, shade cloths and such. Then I will put everything outside. I got 8 plants that are 8-15 inches tall to go in the boxes and I got a couple newly rooted clones that I may as well put out there to get an extra few grams.

So far all my cloning experiments are pretty fail. My DWC cloner has been going for about 10 days or something, still no roots. It is getting a bit annoying tbh.

But yeah us noobs gotta stick together. Congrats on the first harvest it was surely a winner.

well technically im not quick drying it, i have the space heater on the floor and the fan blowing from a few feet away and basically the fan blows around warm air, the space heater is not directly blowing toward or at the buds, I saw it on a youtube video, buddy was drying his out in his bathrooom, and he would turn up the heat a notch to help along the slow drying process. Two weeks seems like forever to dry! you actually wait two weeks? I hope mine doesnt take that long, im sure the landlords will be showing the house in about a weeks time, so I want to be all torn down, and buds in jars by then concealing the beautiful smell of curing buds

ok fair enough then mate, i thought you was cooking the buds to get them dry in super quick time,

also dont worry about the lack of visitors to your journals, i was the same when i started, all you need to do is go and look at other growers journals and ask questions and comment on their grow and invite them to check out your journal, thats all i did and now i got pages and pages of comments, i get so confused sometimes, if ive not been on for a few days then i have to read pages and pages to get caught up, i must check in on at least 25 to 30 journals, so dont worry the masses will soon turn up, they turn up a whole lot quicker if you have problems and need some help and advice, then the sos goes out and they will soon be here

Yea DP is right, you gotta do lots of PR lol, but if you contribute to others grows, people will definitely return the favour

I got a question, more of an emergency in a sense, so my landlords decided they want to come by and talk to us tonight, I have my buds hanging to dry in my furnace room, the most stinky plant was the one with my smaller buds on it, it seemed dry tot he touch, although im well aware they arent completely dry, but for stealth's sake I cut all the buds off that plant and put them in their curing jar, i dont want all my weed to rot from not being completely dry, so I put the jar in the freezer, if i keep it in there will it avoid the buds from becoming moldy?, i can take it out of the jar after they leave but so far that plant was just stankkkky and stunk my whole house up! after jarring it up, I dont smell a hint of fresh weed in my house. Im wondering if i just leave it in there will it eventually just cure? or do you suggest taking it out after the leave and continue with the drying process? SOMEBODY HELP

You dont want them in the freezer when still wet. Moisture willexpand and blow up buds. Just like a glass full of water that gets left in the freezer.

If the buds are dry its fine (keep in mind properly dried buds arnt 100% dry they still retain 10-15% moisture)

If you have a tot tub. Like those 18 gallon rubbermaids or something similar. Just put everything in that or in two of those. With the buds spread out evenly, trying not to pile buds on top of eachother. If you find the smell is leeching out ducttape around the end to make it air tight.

When they leave just go ahead and rehang them.

ya I mean none of these buds were big, they are the buds from my space queen all popcorn sized buds, I took them out of the jar and put them in a cardboard box, I think it might have been ok to leave them though i mean they are light fluffy buds, and feel mostly dry, but to be on the safe side maybe ill wait another day or two, i would say they are at that point about 10-15%

Hey Grogreen; can't you just put 'em in a jar under the bed or something, just for this evening until your landlord's been and gone? A couple of hours probably won't do any harm and you can take them back out to dry once he's left.

And it's sod's law that if you put them in the freezer your landlord will decide he wants a cold drink, open up your freezer to get an ice cube and find all your weed. Unless he decides he wants a quick shuffle and goes on a quest for some porn I doubt he'll bother looking under your bed!!

I am a landlord and I have never gone into a tenants freezer to grab ice :D. I suppose if I was thirsty as hell I might ask them, but usually my attitude is its their house as long as they are paying the rent.

Also Jarhead. Make sure they don't get too far under 15% moisture. You really should be putting them in jars to cure at 13-17% as they need that small bit of moisture to cure properly. If they get under 10% they will not be able to cure properly and you will have dry harsh smoke.

if you got somewhere safe to put them out side then you could put them in a box so they wont sweat and this will stop any rot then you can dry them again, they will rot very quick in a sealed jar and the freezer will just make matters worse,

lol thanks everyone for your thoughts on the subject, i just went down after they had a chance to thaw out from the freezer incident and id say im comfortable they are dry enough to begin curing, my concern came about when I had them in the freezer and I began to see condensation build up on the inside of the jar, I was assume maybe because the buds were warm and the air became cold too quickly, and when I was trying to pull the buds out of the jar i could feel the trichomes breaking off onto my finger, forgot cold will cause that to happen, lesson learned, thanks giga, and jimmy, and green knight +reps for everybody

So I decided to show you what I've got so far...first is my space queen, aka the stickiest weed I've ever encountered

Next I jarred up the smallest buds from my jock....

All three together, and last pic are my big buds that still need a lot more time...I'd say I've got a quarter pound between the three jars

Still looking promising for my half pound goal :), so far so good, weed smells unbelievable!!!!

I think the stuff in the jars is a bit too wet.

It shouldent really stick together THAT much. Its probably ok but every day or so you should take them out and rearrange them so that the buds that where in the center are now on the outside. Otherwise its a damp haven for mold to set in.

Another thing to keep in mind is the buds closer to your water heater will probably dry much quicker. They make a fair bit of heat.

Ya I've been giving the buds in the jar a good shake every once in a while, they separate and the middle buds get fresh air, might have been a little too soon for the jars but I'll be keeping a close eye on them, worst comes to worse I'll leave them out tomorrow for the day, they're not really wet or even damp but overly sticky and are basically sticking to each other forming one big monster bud, I originally had all the space queen buds in one jar, but decided to separate them into two for the sake of avoiding potential mold in the center, they've been sitting with the lids off all day, put the lids on an hour ago and will remove them again tomorrow. I'm in complete agreement with you jimmy, too soon for jars, lesson learned for the rest of the buds, won't make that mistake again
