Mini Green House Grow

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

How did I miss this journal? Has to be one of the most informative reads on the site. Stephen Colbert would def give you a 'Tip of the Hat'! Your MOM is completely understandable, and well deserved.

Funny, but I just spent an hour searching bud porn looking for similar bud tops (thin top growth exiting the cola with comparitively larger leafs growing around the new thin tops) developing like my own. I couldn't find anything but rounded tops on any of the photos....until I reviewed your excellent journal, an saw your photos of the sativa pheno. Was good to see another plant that looked the same.

I can't remember the author, but I also read a detailed write up of using cardboard boxes for drying. In his case, he would cover the top of the box, then gradually slide the top back, exposing more of the cure until it was ready for the jars.

I just gotta get me one of those Eye Clops!

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Good tip on the cardboard - just reading about using cardboard to dry bubble hash... speaking of which, are you going to go for some Gumby?

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

sun,
thanks for taking us all on this journey with you. the obvious gain that was shown in ths grow as compared to the last is encouraging. inspiring even. thanks. and thank you for all the great information. i know i've taken vast ammounts of info from this. and i'm sure everyone else has too..

you're a king. congrats on the harvest. keep growing.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

So are the buds hung in the box or just laid in the bottom? I dry in a cardboard box but they are hung in the box with a top and they seem to dry in around 3 to 5 days. Just wondering, great job on the plants and journal.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Going to go find some cardboard boxes.:thank you:

Just in case I'll get small. medium. and large one.

Who know what I'll need?

Just learned more from the SUN:ganjamon:

Irish also uses cardboard to dry her buds:

This pic is from:

Irish's Harvest Journal, 2009

Great journal, and this lady has grown and cured way more weed than I have.

I swear I didn't steal her cardboard idea ;), but I did find it interesting and confirming that her method evolved in the same direction as what I observed cardboard does for drying/curing.

She uses zip-lock freezer bags to finish the cure because you can see easily the the gas and moisture build up and open the bag to vent it.

hope you're having a great weekend OMM ;)

I actually have read her journal, but at the time I read it I wasn't even thinking about any kind of harvest. :ganjamon:
The zip-lock bags sound logical too. You know me I like to see things.
Thanks for the tips......again:grinjoint:
Hope all is well with you too. :peace:

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

SS, I've found success in using brown paper grocery bags. You can barely find them anymore where I live, but the small local grocer still offers them when you checkout and I really feel they are allowing me to dry harvested buds properly - without drawing out the process.

Akin to what you described above, this method has been very effective and they end up in jars curing, within a week, without any issues. I still continue to burp the jars daily, to help re-distribute any residual moisture, for about a week and then seal 'em up for a couple weeks before sampling. Like using cardboard boxes, I feel the same mechanisms are at work here. Thanks for putting into words what I've been thinking about.

And thank you brown paper/cardboard:smokin:

Lookin' forward to the LED adventure.

Hi Andy
The Military Bases around here still use brown bags and I save them just because they are reusable. Now they have new meaning for me. Thanks. :peace:

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

I can answer that for you, don't think SS would mind.
He is working hard as he can to get everything set up and ready to go.
He wants to make sure everything is set and he's making some mods.
Hope this helps. He'll start very very soon.

Thanks OMM!

that pretty much nails it. Believe me, nobody wants to get the LED grow going more than I do ;).

I did that today, slid the top back just a bit to vent the box for a few hours. It's nice to be able to control the venting like that too.

I just gotta get me one of those Eye Clops!

they work *very* well for checking trichs and for taking cool pics. There are some more conventional looking USB microscopes out now for the same money or less, so might be worth investigating before pulling the trigger.

thanks brother, I appreciate your visit and feedback ;)

yep, seen quite a few hash-making videos where the wet trichs are dried on top of cardboard.

I'd love to make some gumby hash, but I don't have all that much trim on this grow because a lot of the foliage got burned outdoors.

I've got just under an oz of fine trim, but it's got enough trichs to roll up and enjoy.

I'll make some oil or something out of the rough trim. It's really not enough for Gumby. Maybe next grow :Rasta:

keep it green OBX ;)

thank you news!

I've learned a ton of stuff from other people's grows also. The flow of information here is amazing.

Plugging into it was the best decision I made when I started growing again.

thanks again for the positive energy bro ;)

nice job on the harvest looks tasty, im still a hang it till they snap then jar it up kinda guy, did the cardbroad box thing once dried to quick for me but hey thats me ! yeah im high sry

that method works great, and worked great for me too. I'm just trying something different to see if I like it more.

no apologies bro, rock on!

So are the buds hung in the box or just laid in the bottom? I dry in a cardboard box but they are hung in the box with a top and they seem to dry in around 3 to 5 days. Just wondering, great job on the plants and journal.

For this grow, I just layed them on the bottom and I'm turning them every day, but I think a couple of racks made out of coat hangers going across the box would help air circulate around the buds better and increase the number of buds that could be dried without crowding.

Thanks for the feedback on your experience with using a box. 3-5 days is great! It was taking much longer than that hanging in my cab with an exhaust fan.

I'll add a couple of "shelves" to my box for the next harvest.

thanks again sonzor ;)

hope you have a great week!

another benefit of hanging is that you're not disturbing the trics as you turn them over. as the resin glands brush up against stuff the break, and the oxygen breaks down the thc. that's one reason commercial stuff usually isn't as good as if you had grown it yourself, because it has get handled a bunch of times before you see it.

after seeing the comparison SS, i'd up my d.w. guess too. maybe 5 o's?

I've seen others that will hang the buds over a sheet of glass at the bottom of the box to collect the disturbed trich's that fall off. Waste not, want not:cheesygrinsmiley:

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

SS, afraid my tops are more exsagurated than the photo, look more like ornaments sitting on top of christmas trees. BWC Bay Area referred to it as 'Foxtailing. Looks strange as hell.

Thanks for the word on the scopes, think they're the coolest things to roll down the pike since sliced bread.

Brown paper shopping bags probably draw moisture out the same way the cardboard does.

They are hard to find these days, but Trader Joe's still has em around here. At least for now.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Yeah, that's what I used on my last harvest. Threw it all in about 6 brown paper bags (lunch style). I made sure I shook 'em up twice a day or so. And after about 5 days, I threw 'em into our tupperware container with the lid cracked for another 5 days or so. When we crack the lid on the tupperware now, it smells so good. That's from the 3 we harvested last month. It's a big container, it's so nice when it's full. I hope it lasts untill the next 3 are done. We get our paper bags at the local grocery store, we also use them to clean out the litter box.
