Low Stress Training Tutorial ver.0.1

OK then, many of you asked for it and here it is. I had to grow a practice plant just for this Low Stress Training tutorial. just kidding, but here's a little one I'm going to be putting outdoors soon. It's an og Kush S1 offspring, of my first ever grow. It's being grown out to determine its likelihood of herminess©. I've got three of them and I'll do different grow strategies for each of them. Others will follow soon. But for now here is the beginning of a properly low stress trained ONLY plant.

Step #1 Fasten a counter acting yarn, string, etc... to the base of the stem. I like to put it just below the first set of true leaf stems.
20160512_204541.jpg

You can see I've use a stake and a pipe cleaner to secure the stem in a vertical position. I'm not bending anything yet, just creating a counter force to balance it out when you pull it the other way. This also hold the plant in place so the you don't uproot the seedling while you constantly pull the stem more and more sideways.

Step #2 The double tap... No no that later. Step #2 is limber up... (zombieland) what this means is that you just bend the stem back and forth a little eventually leaning it to the direction you're planning on guiding it around the pot.
20160512_204636.jpg

Just us a finger and bend it towards your destination. You'll see that it doesn't take much and it will want to stay bent over.

Step #3 attach counter string for larger plants or place a guide/stake to secure the stem I'm the desired position
20160512_204720.jpg

I used a length of coated wire to pin the stem near horizontally. With the next node that grows at it end is clear of the previous the stake can be moved up the stem and by then you should be growing horizontal.

You can see that the very bottom node will become new auxiliary shoots. And the growth at the node above(at the bend) will know become my secondary shoots. The main stem will continue around the pot.

This is merely the beginning of this tutorial, I'll eventually be combined them all into one and post the conglomerated training sessions. Hope this helps those who were asking.

The next one will be a topping and flux, and the last I'll do a topping and pinwheel. Sounds good?

Watching closely. My first grow has turned into a constant 'Damn, I could have done that better' I think 'better' is just a matter of finding the right teacher :)

More reps, and thank you.

Hah. I know exactly how that is. It helps when your plants are a week apart and you can apply your knowledge to the next one. My first journal was all about doing exactly that. Grow and learn and learn and grow. That's all. Thanks for the support, I'd rather guru than teacher lol... That's embarrassingly conceded. Who would have imagined me being a teacher of cannabis horticulture. Hoo hah!!

May 13th, Daily Update

It's Friday the 13th and I'm writing this entry as I sample my first nug from kalua. So far it's still a little harsh, but tastes fine... Earthy and weedy, you know:) total dry weight us 4.6 grams. It's curing In a jar for last 2 days. Half way through the joint and second time typing this. Lol I'm pretty high. Let's get on with the update before I forget what I'm was doing.... Where's my lighter... Oh ok ok I got it.

Notes ~ Leialoha got her flush and is on her final phase. Alani is pretty much amber free still, very surprised that she's going to be over 100 day plant. T.Special has more amber on it than Alani. Ariel and Trinity just keep getting frostier by the day. I just might have myself a huge dark devil nug to display eventually. Chloe and Chanel are well Into there flower phase stretch complete. Lucy is just beginning, the stakes should keep the Colas bent where I want them, until the stems are stiff enough. And the little GWS, jeeze... I can't believe it was nutrient deprived already, I gave it a light feeding and next day it literally looks twice the size. I'm hoping it was putting g time intone roots and now it's go time up top.

See You soon, thanks for coming by...

Well, you are still going strong over there! Things are looking pretty sweet tasting over there as well. Bet that kalua will taste even better another couple weeks in the jar. Good job on the clones as well, they are still perky so that's what counts right.
Keep up the good work my friend! You keep gathering new growers in here by the day.

That's if I can hold onto 4 grams for 2 weeks :blunt: I like getting high with my weed than paying for weed that barely does. But you're right, I should wait and enjoy it... I've waited 90+ days already so what's another 20. Thanks Dick.
As always, your plants look great. I like that the clones are standing tall now. You may have mentioned this previously, but what kind of training do you plan on doing to them?
Best,
Pre-Med
I have not looked that far ahead yet. I will definitely be trying to maximize size in a short time. I'm going to give one away to my protégé and the other two will be grow out until my next batch (Acapulco gold, tutankhamon) is ready for flower... Thanks for following Premed. Cheers.

Not sure if it was in this journal or my other but someone asked what I was using to check trichomes. Here's my grow tools for that.

20160513_161319.jpg

I've not used the USB one much since my laptop is on the fritz, I need to get myself a tablet.... But the little 420 scope does fine. Just a bit straining on the eyes.

May 14th, Daily Update

Well it's a sad day for the family. My mom's cat has passed away on Friday the 13th. He was buried this afternoon under a very dark and dreary sky. Very apropos. He lived a long and good life of pampered enjoyment. We'll miss him.
I had a a chance to get in the lab for short while before light out on the photos. Everything is great in both tents, my outdoor Kush plants are starting to grow at s more rapid rate now, they'll be introduced to the sun next week. My Acapulco gold seed popped and is in s solo cup, I've also dropped my tutankhamon seed into water. These two plus my clones will be my next photo crop. Let's see some pictures from today...

Notes ~ Jawsephine is accelerating growth, I've taken her out of the tent and given her a cfl of her own. Lucy is really pouring on the pistil production, it definitely fast... Not sure about vast yet..I actually confused Chloe with Ariel this morning. That's embarrassing! Boy they grow up so fast don't they... Lol. The gang is doing great not much amber to be found anywhere. Alani has surprisingly very clear trichomes still, she's approaching day 100. Leialoha is absolutely stunning, she's smells as good as she looks.

Lesson #2 continued low stress training

Step #4 As the next inter node space becomes wide enough you can move the stake up the stem. I like to remove the bottom fan leaf, it usually ends up twisting the frame as it tries to get a better angle of light. I leave the top leaf to be a shade creator. I find that shoots in the shade will stretch faster looking for light. But once they are growing as fast as the next node I remove all the cover. (these are photoperiod plants, autos are more delicate)
20160515_093858.jpg

You can see that the lower stem is completely vertical, bent at the first set of true leaves. 45° angle or so to the next node and now I'm totally horizontal.
20160515_093923.jpg

I'll add a few more guiding/Sheparding instalments to this, but I think you can all figure out a corkscrew shape... Which is my favourite pattern, but you can now shape your plant however you please.
