Surfinstoned's 720Watt LED - God's Gift - Hydro Grow

Re: Surfinstoned's 720watt LED, god's gift, hydro grow

Nope no CO2 for me, not yet at least I think that I'm still trying to get everything down first so I plan on adding CO2 on my third grow

Yeah, I figured that was the case. Just pointing out how big the plants are without it. :welldone:

Re: Surfinstoned's 720watt LED, god's gift, hydro grow

Hello Xlr8,
Welcome to the grow! thank you once again for your compliments. The guys at my local hydro shop are very cool and helpful no matter how dumb my questions seem. I don't mind another follower at all that just means more experience on my side! I love it! It's almost as if when we post pictures we have a world of knowledge checking them out and if something looks out of place someone will catch it and give you a heads up that there might be an issue in the garden (garden tech support) hahahahaha I love being medicated! I flood 7 times a day while the lights are on. To be honest I don't know if there is even a difference of flooding with lights on as opposed to lights off but it just made more sense to me to flood when the lights are on. I don't think I was very detailed in this journal it's my first grow so I think that I missed a lot of little details compared to other journals I read, but my next will be better for sure. Ok no more rambles from me white widow = rambles
:roorrip:

You are correct about the flood cycles. Plants will not take up water/nutes when they are in the dark cycle.

Re: Surfinstoned's 720watt LED, god's gift, hydro grow

Sorry Munki, I disagree and think some basic understanding is needed here.
Water is drawn up from the roots via capillary action by a need from above,
not from some 'pumping' force from below. Photosynthesis uses water when
lights are on, but evaporation also happens in the dark. Wilted cuttings
perk-up faster after watering, in the dark with no photosynthesis happening.

Plants are happiest in hydroton when the 'ton is constantly wet. Hydrofarms
have always worked excellently, 24/7s drip. On another hand, the retained
water on the 'ton is probably enough for the night, when less water is needed.

Re: Surfinstoned’s 720watt LED, god’s gift, hydro grow

Not to highjack surfin' stoned's thread, but isn't it somewhere in between? I always thought that this process is slowed during the night hours (I guess that's what you're both saying in a way?) - possibly increasing risk of pythium, etc. I can say for certain that I've observed noticeable plant growth during dark hours, (specifically in early bloom stretch), but I've wondered how much water/nutes were taken in during night hours.

I have been growing an auto that I transplanted into a DIY DWC/waterfarm bucket that I made - 24/7 drip waterfarm plumbing kit in a bucket with an airstone. I do think the plant really seems to like the 24/7 drippers - or at least not mind them at all.

Grow Update!!! Day 42 Flower

First of all I would like to apologize for not updating everyone sooner life has gotten a little crazy lately. So the ladies are looking a little plumper everyday and are starting to get orange/brown hairs everywhere is that normal for this stage of flower? When do you think I should start looking at the trichs to see when I should harvest?

In getting ready for a larger number of plants for next grow I upgraded my res this weekend to a 55 gal and I will be using my old 35 gal res for my R/O water.

Before I get to the bud porn pictures ( love that term by the way lol ) I would like to clear up a misunderstanding from one of my prev post's. I misunderstood the guys at advanced LED and when I ran into the issue with the lights running more wattage than what they should they did offer to replace them with 2 that were tested. In my post I said that was not offered and there is the misunderstanding. So I'm sorry about that and they are going to give me a great price on 2 more 360w lights! Ok let's see the girls!!!!!!

Re: Surfinstoned’s 720Watt LED - God’s Gift - Hydro Grow

Very nice! I'm not sure what the avg. finish time for your strain is, but I usually start looking at the trichs pretty early. First of all, they are really cool to look at through a hand-held microscope, and second, you can watch day to day as they progress from clear, to milky, and to amber. I'd say go for it, check out those resin glands :)

Thank you for all your input, you all have good points of view so what I'm thinking is this: Right now they are flooded 7 times a day during lights on, If I add 3 more flood times during lights off and they don't like it what signs should I look for?

Quite welcome, grower. I, and most of your fans love your plunge into this thing. Youth and nerve :thumb:
I've even sprouted new dream schemes with LEDs, from your influence :smokin:

Cannabis doesn't mind too much water on the roots, as long as that water contains some dissolved oxygen. A little is enough to poison harmful anaerobic rot. DWC growers immerse roots throughout the life of their plants, and get excellent results. Wet hydroton absorbs plenty of oxygen in-between floods to assure root/plant health. No bubbles required.

Your girls are looking good, but are not yet ripe. New growth will slow significantly just before they are ready to cut & dry. New growth is easy to see with the pistals, which burst out light-colored, then get surrounded by calyxes, then shrivel and turn brown. These are frustrated female parts, literally dying for lack of pollination. Trichomes develop on all cola surfaces, then most get covered by new growth as they age, and turn amber. Trichs are somewhat degraded when they've gone brown, but some heads like 'em that way ;)
When new clear trichomes are no longer forming, they're done.

I have been seaching around for the answer to the same question, thank you very much for sharing this post, I am about 2 weeks behind surfin and have not found a good description of when to start looking, awesome post propa gator!! thanks!

Surfin!!! your ladies are beautiful!!! really have thickened a ton since last time I stopped thru!!! great job on the girls! I wish I could help more but no nothing about hydro, at least yet :) but it is great to see your plants are so healthy!!! I will be following along closely being that I'm only about a 2 weeks behind your schedule so I am learning a lot!! thanks everyone and surfin for sharing the wealth of knowledge!!

Re: Surfinstoned’s 720Watt LED - God’s Gift - Hydro Grow

Everything looks awesome! It looks like you're getting the system dialed in, I bet the next grow will blow this one away (if that's possible). Glad to hear you're getting a good deal on the next pair of lights you buy. I have nothing but good to say about the guys at Advanced.

Surfinstoned,

I've been checking out your journal for the last few days and must say I'm super impressed. I almost can't get enough of your nug porn. Your chicas look like they're doing fantastic. I can't say my first grow, well actually second, but first indoor grow is going as well but it's a learning process. I just wanted to stop by and say hello to a fellow SDer and root you on until the finish.

Keep up the good work. :thumb:

P.S. that's a pretty sweet chalice you were rocking it the early pix.

That's awesome info Propa Gator Thank you very much. That's a lot to take in at one time.

According to the cervantes book i should get a 30x power microscope, looks like I'm off to the Candy store (Hydro store) Thanks for the help C-Loj

What's up Ice,

I checked out your girls and they are looking budtastic! Yeah I'm very nervous that i will not harvest at the right time and then ruin the potency or something like that. I really have to study harvesting/drying/curing!

Re: Surfinstoned’s 720Watt LED - God’s Gift - Hydro Grow

Hi Surfin -

I think whatever you're doing right now is working excellently. I wouldn't change the watering flood/drain cycle a bit. Looks like your 7 times during daylight hours is providing you with excellent results.

Have a great 4th of July! :)
