Two Tents By Twox: A Memoir Of A Monthly 8oz Harvest

What's up everybody. Little update of my grow and I figured I would go over what I'm working with.shout out to Nightmask.:thumb:

The Two Tents.
The big one is a virtual sun 4x4 and the little one is a 2x4 gbox. I'm also using this 6000btu portable AC to keep my grow cool this summer. Both tents are connected and it all starts at the two passive intakes on the veg tent.

Thanks so much for this update Twox! That was brilliant. Great to see what you're working with and how it all connects. Some of those timers n stuff look a little odd, but hey, Aussie here so we get different plugs. I'm still waiting on more stuff and even though I'll be using different equipment to you my design is based on yours. So thanks for all the inspiration!

I have a 6" can-fan that I have been running on and off for 3 years. I literally have it switch on and off at full speed based on temperature. It sounds just as quiet and reliable as it did on day 1.

A quality ballast with 5 year duarantee like his Galaxy and my Nanolux should last as long and as trouble free as almost any electronic device. I wouldn't worry about stressing it at full power.

I've been thinking about running mine via humidistat, but I actually like the way the fan circulates air in my apartment too lol It use to be hell in this apartment during summer. My tent air gets exahusted out of an old (deactivated) furnace into my living room and cycles around the house like that. So I keep it running 24/7 at full blast just for that.

Hey Twox
This is my 1st subbed thread. And I'm enjoying it so thanks ! I'm doing my first indoor grow and it's going ok so far. I just need to put my bud tent up but it's so hard I keep putting it off! Regards from Australia

Thanks for joining us Annabanana, (love the name:thumb:)
The first grow is the most exciting, your going to love it. Good to hear things are doing good on your side of the pond.. If you have questions, we have answers.. Lots of wise people around these parts..

Your setup is pretty sweet man! ive heard iffy things about the fans too but i have a 4" and havent heard too many bad things about them. You need that 6" though. I love the soothing sound of fans i cant sleep without one. That urkle looks great for three weeks she will make some nice colas.
Besides the odd noise at low speeds it's still running like a champ so I guess I shouldn't even be complaing. I run at about 60% and it sounds fine. Equipment breaking worries me.. especially fans.

I have a bad ringing in my ears when it's silent so I have a fan on while I sleep anyways. The symphony of fans in my tents is just a added bonus. The good thing is if the power happens to go out i wake up immediatley.. I'm sure I saved my ladies from bud rot a few times with my spidey sense.
Thanx for the compliments on the Candy Urkle, she started flowering the first week of 12/12 and her clones rooted in a week... She does everything fast and I like it.

NIce guude to your environment and tech.

Is that Candy Urkle in the untopped, she grows that way naturally, state? A nice looking girl for sure.
yep, untopped, a natural beauty .. I was amazed that all her side branches made it to canopy level and she only had a 4 or 5 week veg before flower. This is my first run from clone with her and she did really good so far.. She's way quicker than the Purple Urkle..

Nice setup Twox, I've been wondering what you were using for a ballast. How far down does that thing dim? I've been considering getting a 1000w and running at 400-600 max a sa way to make me feel a little safer that I'm not loading the ballast out. Right now my Apollo 400 gets a little warm and warm electronics scare me. Nothing that my hand doesn't cool down touching, but still... I've been on the lookout for good ballasts to get before this one blows up anyway. I've found out it's good to have backups.

Speaking of backups, that vivosun is a lot like the apollo I had with a built-in controller too. Wouldn't be surprised if it's just a Chinese generic with different brand names. It started squeaking real bad on me so I got a new fan asap and that one is now in a box to serve as a stop-gap fan when my SPL dies.

The ballast I have runs 600, 750, and 1000 so I have it at the lowest setting and I've never ran a 1000 before. I've wanted to but I never really got around to it.. Maybe this winter I'll give one a shot.

Mines only making a weird sound at something like 10% power. I was cleaning my filter and turned it down and noticed a really ruff sound.. The hydro farm sounds brand new still... The bearing is so smooth it takes forever to stop spinning. At least ten minutes or more...

I've heard good reviews from the can fans. Nice to hear it's pulling it's weight over the years... Reliable equipment is priceless.

I didn't really want to spend what I spent on this ballast as a new grower but I'm glade I did. I searched reviews and did my research and it seemed like they had a great reputation of being reliable .. It's a little old school compared to some of the new fancy ballasts but it works every day for 12 hours with no complaints. I alnost bought a quantum but I went this route instead.

No prob Nightmask... Seeing how it all works and the actually equipment I'm using might help you make some decisions about your own grow.. Thanx for the idea for this update and I'm sorry about our weird plugs... There just basic timers..:thumb:

You inspired me to show off how I have my own setup in my journal Twox. I'll leave you with this teaser pic that will make any HVAC specialist cry.

That's pretty cool ! I've been working on a plan to get my set up pulling from one fan / 2 carbon filters too - ( of course with boosters )
Thanks for some fresh ideas on how

Ive been running my 4" on full power to suck as much humidity out of the tent as i can.. had it around 50-60% before but the ladies need that extra circulation. Rh has gone up to 80 during lights off on a few occasions and i have absolutely no sign of bud rot or wpm. Good air circulation is key to warding off those intruders!

Hey toasted - I was having the same issue - I was gonna let I slide too, but it started to bug me when I read this whole thing :
Indoor Humidity Control for Growing Cannabis - What You Need to Know! | Grow Weed Easy
I got a dehumidifier outside the tent drawing air towards my inlet and I'm around 40% day & night, helps me sleep better .

Good call on the booster fans, because I've been worried that one filter might get more clogged than the other, or the length of ducting would keep air flow unequal, etc.

How are those Envy's doing twox?
There doing good, well at least one is... I hate the taller one, 5ft is too damn tall. Lol

Just doing alittle drive-by... Keepem Green

He snuck out the window to go to a festival

:passitleft:
If I sneak out the window I probably won't come back... lol, I'm free..

Do you breed twox?
Nope, no kids. I practice a lot though... Hahaha... come on, that was funny..
I plan on it but not quite yet. My friend Electro here has some breeding skills. Hella babys.. :thumb:

Purple Urkle Photo Dump.
Yeild sucked this month, 7.9oz.... The top I lost would have made my 8.. oh well. I think I over crowded the Urkles and I'm due for a new bulb..

The Urkles smoke really good though. Not a lot of color due to the heat wave I wasn't prepared for during late flower. Taste is still fruity and the buds are still frosty and rock hard. I may have over defoilated these ladies too but I'm not worried. On with the pics because I need to check my little ones.

Cool story of the day:
In house Genetics had a contest on Instagram to help name some new strains an I decided to participate. If he choose to use any names the winner would get a free pack of the strain he named. He choose a strain I named and I won a pack...

.... :high-five::idea::yahoo::blunt::woohoo:

The strain was MendoBreathXGoliath. I named it Grapes of Wrath...Pretty damn cool if you ask me...

Me personally I have run quite a few fem seeds and enjoyed them but have seen some terrible phenos show up in the bigger breeders pools. The smaller breeders seem to work to limit the number of phenos you may get and try to make it so they are all decent if not all keepers in their own right. Because these breeders are smaller and aren't just chucking pollen to make as much money as possible they have to charge a bit more to make it a viable business. I am now working on working my way through what I have for fems while looking for keeper strains from either them or the regulars I have started to accumulate.

I'm right there with ya... Yeti. Been running REG seeds for a while. At the end of the day, the phenos worthy of flowering is worth the PITA selection and males and all their drama. I just went thru selecting 4 males (looked like fems) in a row to transplant into 7gal containers only to find 5 days later balls... Mofo... finally the ladies showed me the goods after 10 days in 12/12ish. That's the extreme for me.

I get better yields from the non-fem'd seeds. Usually 2x yields (or more), so it's worth it for me. Only issue for me with REG seeds is height... and running out of it indoors. Rope some dope.. easy 'nuff.

REG seeds takes a larger dedicated VEG space.

Haha that is pretty awesome twox.. i guess that means you officially named a strain though, to me thats cooler then a pack of seeds. Just sayin lol that is some beautiful buddage man.. i hope my Hawaiian lady looks like that. Im pretty sure she has gdp, purple urkle or some other purple strain in her. Do they smell fruity too cause she smells like some freshly cut fruit.

Twox that is badass about getting your name chosen! I cant wait for you to grow them out. That is something I will watch for sure.

I am really just getting into regular seeds. I have never had the space and had a limited plant count so I had to run clones of fem seeds just to stay supplied. My plant count is slightly higher giving me a little more freedom. I had a Huck Kush that I vegged for at least 3 months in a 1 gallon pot hoping for it to show me preflowers before I wasted soil on it. I ended up taking clones and within a week of 12/12 one of them showed me balls. I was disappointed as it was the smelliest plant I have ever had in veg and it was one of the healthiest that I have ever vegged that long.

I cannot say that I have seen larger yields from regulars so far, actually it is the opposite, but I have found some nice females so far. I have a Blue Magoo I planted a couple of weeks ago I am hoping is a female. I have like 3 other strains I need to get started but have another 3 on the way. The seed addiction is real.

Hell yeah lol! Totally cool....and some delicious looking bud there
Thanx:thumb: I was kinda surprised to see my name among the winners..

I thought It was pretty damn cool too. I was doing a little dance while I was celebrating... Funny thing was I couldn't even remember what cross it was, I had to go check my posts.. Officially proud..:high-five:

Oh ya, I'm growing them. Mendo breath is my kinda strain anyways and the Goliath looks like some frosty buds.
