Harry's Quest For Indica Dominance

You guys were cracking me up with your little seed identification process....I was wondering how long it would go on for... Harry, have you decided how you are going to grow it? You going to go for the classic Indica one donkey dick main cola or you going to try some LSTing?:peace:
We're tired of all this bud porn. We wanted to see some seed porn. lol

Seriously though, I've been thinking about that. I figured I'd LST the Sativas but I'm undecided about the Indica.

I'm wondering if the sex of the plant can be affected by the additional stress of LSTing or is the sex locked into the seed and predetermined before it's planted? Maybe I'll just lean it back a little, as I've seen you do, but I'm really more interested in getting a female than any increased yield. At this point, having an Indica female to clone for the future is way more important than more colas.

What do you think? Should I just let it grow naturally and keep the stress to a minimum?

:peace:

Harry

When it comes to Indicas I like the big cola, I lean them back to their weak side and will grab any clones from back there. I thought I read that they are one cola dominant meaning that they focus on the main ( and I may have just made that up, not sure with all the info I have piled up in the last year).. I may have to give it a try sometime. As for the stress, not sure I agree with that totally. Out of my three G's the one that was burned when it had one true leaf set, split into 2 shoots that I split in half when I was LSTing it and took a good month to recover was the only female... So who knows... Hopefully it will be a she....:peace:

I'm with you on the male/female chances but it's an interesting question that may make for for a lively discussion thread. ;)

I do believe that additional stress may cause hermie tendencies to pop out but I believe if it's a stable strain, there will always be an equal percentage of females to males (on average, with a large enough sample size).

While not optimum, I wouldn't be that disappointed if it were a good male. I'd pollinate every female I had and get some breeding experience. Who knows, I might end up with a really killer cross. :smokin:

:peace:

Harry

Just to give you an idea about how many seeds you get.... I average 40 - 50 seeds per small lower bud that I pollinate. I agree with Irie about leaning it back to get more bud if its a she. I'm really hoping for a girl for you :)

40-50 seeds per branch would be awesome 4twenty4all. I'm gonna have to go back an review your journal on that bag technique. :smokin:

lol @ Bee23 seed porn.

Hey Harry, I caught up on your two other journals and am on board for this one. Let me get this straight though, you are using 1, 600 watt HPS for flower and are producing over a pound?!?!?! Thats AWESOME Harry, good luck with the new grow!
Thanks for checking out the journals oks226!! I am growing some heavy producing Sativas though. I had good success with LSTing and was getting several 3'-4' main colas from each plant. The last two plants I harvested produced 6oz each.

I'm using a hanging mylar box and a single 600w HPS high output bulb with an electronic ballast. With movable walls of mylar, I can get it right in on the plants. I'm trying to get the most of the 600watter by using as much reflected light as possible. It's open at the top and bottom for air flow and the HVAC vent is at the top, providing fresh air, heat & cooling as needed.

Here's a pic of the setup.

Here's the Indica at day 20 from seed..

It looks health and happy in the tron. I'm gonna have to get it out of that 20oz cup real soon.

Harry

That bag system for collecting pollen is pretty easy and worked great for me twice, good luck with that! I love your hanging room every time I see it man... And that indica is looking great too, very compact and healthy looking....this is going to be yet another great grow. Time to go make a turkey sandwich...one of maybe 20 this week with all that left-over turkey LOL

Hiya Harry!Lookin good man.:ganjamon:
I love my tron!
Lol,not using it for anything at the moment except my momma lst.
I got that small fem to reveg, now just watchin and training it.
I want clones for spring!
As always Harry, your grow's lookin awesome!
:peace:

All the photon-tank's i've seen should ONLY be used for veggin'! They are very small!! (3-4 feet tall - grow space smaller - octagon shaped - roughly 2 cu. yards in volume) Veggin' is a very good and green way to reuse old gear!!! Good goin Harry!!! I am curious, you probably already said, but i been chiefin', what's your reflective medium? Looks shiny!

Thanks Minus!!

Thanks man!

I hear ya. I think my eyes are floating in turkey & dressing. :smokin:

I may pull everything out of my tron and flower a male in there. I keep the tron in a different area all together. I'm not sure just yet. I'm hoping for a Indica female but planning just in case it's a male or hermie. If it's a female, I'll cross it with a good heavy producing Sativa male and see what I can come up with. ;)

so your using a phototron for veg? Never seen one in person, just in mags. What is the approximate size of a tron?
Your indica is looking very happy, think I even saw a smile in the pic!! lol
keep it up Harry
Well, I've been using the tron for seedlings, clones and the very initial stages of vegging. I clone and germinate in 9oz cups. When I see roots, I move to 20oz cups and let the first 3 or 4 nodes form. Then, I trans to 2 gallon vegging pots and move them out of the tron and under the 400w MH.

I was also using the tron to hold a couple of mothers and a couple of clones. The mothers grew to the top and I needed the tron for this grow so I moved everything to the veg room (400w MH), took clones from the mothers and let them veg a little longer. I've now moved the Ma's into the flower room, so in this case, I really did do most of the vegging in the tron. I plan on pulling them when this new grow is ready to flower and just screen 'em for resin.

The tron is good for mothers because they grow slowly in there. There's just enough light and I run a 16/8 cycle to keep things growing slow. I've been holding 5 clones and 5 seedlings in there, keeping 6 different female genetics going. My tron is ~40" tall, 18" wide and contains 3 40w curved flouro tubes.

Veggin' is a very good and green way to reuse old gear!!! Good goin Harry!!! I am curious, you probably already said, but i been chiefin', what's your reflective medium? Looks shiny!
In the flower room, I'm using suspended, movable, mylar walls. The veg room is B/W poly with a couple of mylar panels that I move around and the tron has mylar coated plexi-glass side panels.

Todays update...

I transplanted the Indica into it's 2 gallon veg pot and moved it under the 400w MH in the veg room. It's doing great! I'll be moving the 4 Sativas into their veg pots tomorrow and placing them in the veg room. I'll grab some more pix then...

I just screened out a big crystally bud and gathered up all the resin and sprinkled it in another joint to make it SUPER charged.

It's 2... 2... 2 jays in one.

I really needed to relax after this hectic weekend. :smokin:

Nice man enjoy that joint.

Thanks Dr.215 & pcmoe5000!!

I've finished transplanting and have the 4 Sativa (hybrids?) under the 400w MH in the veg room.

Group Shot..

They all seem to be liking it in their new home. I'll start LSTing the Sativas soon.

OOOO that indica is gunna be tasty. i can feel it. They look gorgeous Harry great work as always.

I sure hope so Dr.215. I've got both fingers and toes crossed for a lady. :yummy:

I thought I'd post a few pix of what's happening in my flower room.

Here's a clone of the really red haired sweet stuff from my last grow (Sheena). It's just finishing it's stretch and there's lots of nice colas that should fill with bud. This plant was not LST'd, only super cropped. I guess being a 3rd generation clone and vegged slowly, it just grew all those main colas. I'm hoping to keep it around 48" max height. Since I don't know how many females I'm gonna get with this grow, at least I have this one to fall back on if disaster strikes. ;)

grow3-flower1.jpg

Here's a pic of the choco-skunky ma (Fast Betty) that I decided to flower. I over nuted her a little. She seems very sensitive to the Tiger Bloom. I gave her the exact same nute regiment as the Ms Burley mom and she had no problems at all. I'm fairly close to harvest so I think it will be ok. I'd planned on using it to make hash anyway but I might keep a few of her nicer buds.

grow3-flower2.jpg

Here's a clone of Ms Burley. I'm gonna keep her around 4.5' this time. We had wondered if a clone would grow the same traits as the original plant and the answer is yes. Looks like she's gonna have one massive cola and with cola peaks surrounding just like when grown from seed.

I went ahead and leaned the Indica back a little today. It looked like it needed to get some light down in there. I'm seeing some nice branching occurring and wanted to open it up a little. I may supercrop the main stem a little, and only once, as well.

:peace:

Harry

Looking good, as usual Mr Harry... You gotta SC it, it will bush up nicely... You can't pamper it to much, you will spoil it.... :ganjamon: Those sativas just amaze me time and time again... :peace:
