DocBud's Next Medical Grow

I had a gnat infestation that was growing and I started treating with Gnatrol which has a bacteria that kills the larva. I kept spraying the soil surface with essential oils to kill any crawling or flying gnats. Re-treated once a week for two weeks to get any new larva. The result is no more gnats.

Hay TT, the active ingredient is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti). Same thing is in the dunks. I've got lava rock or hydroton as a top cover, so it's been a bitch to try and work the crumbs into the soil.

Apparently they've stopped selling pre-mixed Gnatrol, and only do a water soluable crystal now. Is that what you're using?

I just ordered some off Amazon :yummy:

That is the stuff. I just mixed it in when watering and it did the trick. I believe I started at 1 tsp per gallon then dropped to 1/2 tsp per gallon. been using it at 1/4 tsp/gal on some new plants as a preventitive because there is still the occasional gnat or two flying around. No gnats in the new plants.

I know! It is amazing....

My gnats are completely knocked down. Very little action on the sticky traps, not seeing many crawling around in the soil. One more application should do the trick.

I'll still take gnats over mites.

High Doc, did you go with the Malthion?

Indeed I am High, Horse!!

I just sampled a bit of my new querkle...dry but zero cure. It tastes great, a rich, fruity treat and very strong. I can't wait to try it in a month!

I went with the Monterey stuff I posted up-page a bit. I'm too close to harvest on the BD's so I chose a product that was safe close to harvest. It sucks that I had to do it....I've been managing these gnats OMRI like until the last 2 weeks when they went crazy on me.

I think I'll spray the growroom with Malathion when I harvest these plants, before I've got anything in flower. I know it's safe then.

Hay Doc, I know malthion by itself has a relatively low toxicity, but, "Malathion present in untreated water is converted to malaoxon during the chlorination phase of water treatment, so malathion should not be used in waters that may be used as a source for drinking water, or any upstream waters." And that's just the good part :smokin:

I haven't used that stuff since my 1st issue of The Mother Earth News :)

Glad to hear a report on the Querkle. My son has some Urkle X Purple ( ? ) beans sprouting for the stable ;)

High dee ho!

I would go with malathion.
Just clean out the room real good spray, close it up for a day then let it air out real good. at least you Know it will get rid of them.

On a side note I have three clones that are doing great with just 2/3 soil and 1/3 steer manure and CFLs I am using the KISS method just to see what happens
Ive been reading your journals and they are very well written with lots of good info. :nicethread:

Thanks for the compliment!
I've come to the same conclusion. When these blue dreams are harvested, I'm going to call in a pro and have the whole place bombed/sprayed. Then, let the room air out and start fresh.

But I'm not going to use malathion this close to harvest.

stink bugs

Doc,

Since the topic has turned toward bugs. Have you ever had a stink bug problem or know of any others that have? My friend saw 2 dig their way into the top cola of the Papaya today. He wasn't fast enough to grab them. We pulled all of our plants out to inspect, but no luck finding them if they were still in there. From the look of the tricomes on the plant, any bug eating them is gonna either o.d. or be very stoned and not really be moving around much, lol.
From what I understand the stinkers are attracted to light and heat. We have Hot-Shots in the room, and we hung a stick fly strip in the room too.
Also, are you having problems with them in general in your part of the country. They are a REAL big problem around here.

One last thing Doc, The plants seem to be getting real frosty buildup to the naked eye along the edges of the small leaves close to the bud. Is this what the Snow Storm does?

I haven't had stinkbugs....yet. I would think the hot-shots would do the trick.

RE Snowstorm: You get frosting everywhere....sugar leaves, small fan leaves...even the stems. This stuff really works. I have not tried the Purple Max or the Gravity.

I think the best thing you can do is in the last 4 weeks of bloom turn down the RH to 35-40 and in the last two weeks turn the temps down to the low '70's day, low '60s nite.

Hey Doc,

I found this site a lil late in the game and have been scrambling to correct noob mistakes since. I discovered your wisdom by following Bluedogs journal and finally made my way over here.

I hate to ask but could you explain what is "snowstorm"? Where do I get it? And when do I use it? I am about 18 days into 12/12.

Also I want to thank you for all the knowledge that you pass on.
The growing is almost as therapeutic as the end product.

Hi Doc, I know I'm late to the discussion but I did try the mosquito dunks on my first grow. I had already tried vinegar, sticky yellow paper and the super sticky fly strips as well as neem oil foliar sprays and dunks. all of them worked to a limited extent except the mosquito dunks. The dunks killed 'em dead. The dunks are the only thing I have tried in my limited experience that broke the larvae cycle. The other solutions only addressed adults. The best part is that for less than ten bucks you can get a lifetime supply. I continued neem oil foliar sprays to address the adults on the first dunk. Then did another dunk a week or so later as I recall. The incubation cycle is 14 days as memory serves, but don't hold me to that.

32 oz, you can go smaller depending on plant count if you want to just try it. Snow Storm Ultra has purple maxx combined with it i believe, you can check on their website to make sure

thanks everyone! I've been away for a couple days. My gnats appear to be dead.

I'm going to get some pics in the next day or two....the Blue Dreams are looking real good, harvest them soon.

That's great news Doc...:high-five: I say screw the little bastards!

I'll be on the lookout for the next batch of porn!:)

Doc,
Glad to hear the little f#$*ers are gone !

Dexter4Morgan,
I applied it to the soil as a drench. One week later, I did it again. This killed off the larvae. I doubled up on sticky strips and sticky yellow cards to get the rest of the adults. I only used the neem oil when the plants were in veg or early flower.
As memory serves, I used this post to mix up my drench.
