Let's Find a Mother! Hiking Through a Field of Mary Jane

gauges are about $150 torches $175 vacuum pumps are expensive $500 maybe you cant borrow or rent ,silver brazing rod is $150 a pack. unit will come charged with refrigerant so u shouldn't have to worry about that. its not rocket science , if you are mechanicly inclinded and have basic electrical knowledge i can talk you through it. being able to follow a wiring diagram will help. installing them is easy, alot of work but not to tough on the brain. troubleshooting them when they break is trickier.

congrats on the motm nom.:goodjob:

So $1000 for the tools. That's a lot. :hmmmm:

I could rationalize it as part of the cost of the AC though. The torch I WILL find other things to use it on. Not sure what else I can use the gauges for, but if I spend $500 on a vacuum pump, you can bet your ass I'll be playing around to see how much vacuum various things around the house will hold. I'll want a way to measure how much it's holding!

I'm sure I can install one based on what you're saying. I've done a LOT of electrical work, and I can read schematics. I've built a lot of electronics as well. I am most certainly mechanically inclined. Thanks again for schoolin' me about AC's. :Namaste:

If I have to troubleshoot something, I guess I'll just ask people. Hopefully, by buying a high quality brand and model, it will be reliable for many years.

U can and it will (turn purple) but to the cost of some yield, in ur position I'd opt for higher weight over premium price. Its fire green blue purple red or any other color regardless. ;)

dude, im a appliance tech and we do refrigeration jobs a lot and hosnestly you would be cheaper to either have someoneells do it for you or get a new one : / after tools and what not it is easy to get a restriction in the lines, (which basicly means that your SOL and can go trash it at that point)

i would try to find a local appiance repair tech that works out of his van (one man op) becasue they can do that realy cheap and they have probly been doing to for a while.

That's a good call. I didn't realize colder night temps would lower yield.

Thanks :)

Thanks! It will be awhile. At least the second harvest after the one this week, so maybe in October. You did make me think about it a bit, and I may know someone that has some of the tools. I've got plenty of time to work out where to get tools. I still might hire someone if I can overcome my security concerns.

Thanks Jlt. I don't really have a problem I'm trying to fix at the moment. I'm just discussing my options for having a mini split installed. I'm too paranoid about security to have someone come out here. I live in a very small town, so I can't hire anyone local to do work that would result in them knowing about the basement. Not gonna happen :blalol:

If I had a clog in the line, it would only affect the line, right? So worst case is I have to run a new line is all, right? I realize that's a lot of work, but that's what you do to resolve it, right? The compressor and handler units would still be OK I think.

Thanks for all the help and advice relating to the AC guys. My environment is doing pretty good right now, so some of the urgency is gone. I'm still going to upgrade to a mini split down the road, but for now, I've moved on.

I took 45 clones last night. I'm going to have more than I need, but this way I can choose the strongest to put into the room in a couple weeks. Here are a couple pics.

The remains of the slaughter!

A lot of these are going away. the plants in the 1g containers are my potential mothers. The plants in the solo cups are being given away. They will most likely end up outdoors. The friend, that is acting as my broker, wants some clones to put outdoors, so the timing will work perfectly. I might put a few out in the woods too, but so far I haven't found any spots I like.

My other option is to just play Johhny Cannaclone, and plant them all over my town. :shhh:
I know they will get pulled, but it would be cool to see how long some of them last before anyone notices.

THATS bawler as shit man haha thats what ill be doing this summer, ill do small plots of 2-4 and if they make it sweet if not, no skin of my back lol

Very cool stuff happening over here hiker.+reps.

Do you have a store that you frequent? That is the way I found my ac guy. I just asked a few people at a few different shops got a couplel numbers and we were rocking. You can basically have the compressor hooked up to power and the handler you would be able to connect to the compressor. You will have to make a couple holes to get your wires to the handler. On mine there is a wiring diagram on the handler and it shows the color of the wire and which terminal to land on the compressor. The next part is where the ac guy comes in and charges the unit and checks for leaks or anything of that sort. It cost me about 1200 total to install my unit. These things are really quiet if they are working properly but if they malfunction can become loud as heck. The foam insulation was chewed off by my dog and the lines were freezing making a terrible sound all night. Had to apologize to my neighbors for that one. 6pm to 6am they were stoked. haha

anyways hope all is good brother.

cheers

Most the mini split on the market now are pre charged and vacuumed. I've never personally installed one that wasn't. Tho I know they are available. The precharge units are a snap to install tho.

I did that last year lol. Took extra clones everywhere I went and planted them, never did go back to em or anything I just can't bring myself to kill one lol. Wanna fo a male and female one of these days. Get it growing wild everywhere like Thailand :)

this is correct, and restrictions usually happen when runnig the line set and one of the pipes get crimped. then you just cut out the crimp and weld the ends together.

awesome update. +reps i'm routing for you on motm. :)

I haven't decided any details like how many or picked out any spots. I'm not sure I would want them within sight of my house, and I have to make sure nobody sees me plant them. Could be fun. :)

Was the guy a grower too? I do buy everything from the same shop. I know the owner. I bet they probably do know a "friendly" AC guy, but I'm having a hard time trusting anyone right now. DIY means I only have to trust me.

How long of a hose can I get pre-vacuumed? I thought I understood Ronnie say the lines have vacuum in them, and you add the refrigerant at the compressor end. I'm assuming the vacuum then pulls it in to fill the void. I think Ideal-Air does that with their hoses, but I don't know about any other brands. I haven't really started researching specific brands yet either. I think the portable is working pretty well after I opened it up and sealed as much as I could. I think it will get me by. I may leave it like this until I'm ready to start building the second flowering room.

That's awesome. It would be cool to know if any got harvested. I wish I had thought of planting males too. I just tossed 3 male clones last night to make room for those females. I "practiced" with my father plants since I didn't need the clones yet.

hiker i'm in so cal and i'll be glad to come do it for you. awesome update. +reps i'm routing for you on motm. :)

That's above and beyond! +rep :Namaste:
WA is lovely in the fall. :)

good support ronnie!

He's the man!

After looking at the forum rules, I would avoid posts pertaining to mailing ANYTHING made of ANY cannabis based organic material. Just me, go take a look and tell me what you get from it. In any case your work is well organised and looking greaaaaat!+reps

Good call. It wouldn't let me edit it.

Well to be honest, I'm really only wanting to donate clones to people growing meds for themselves. I could say I want to see a "card", but then I'd be a hypocrite. I don't have a card. I don't want the govt knowing wtf I'm doing!

Well let's hope the mod will be kind and just remove that last section. I can understand where that might be a grey area though. I'm not asking for money. So maybe mail order is out. Oh well. They can delete it. I'm probably too paranoid to go through with it. Unless it was someone I had already interacted with here, it would be pretty unlikely. Oh well. Maybe Propa or another mod is reading this. You can remove the section in this post and the one above about the clones. It was just a spur of the moment thought.

Quick update today, gotta go do some trimming. :yummy::cheer:

Checked on the girls at lights on and the Royal Queen Critical is throwing more nanners. She's getting cut right now. I'm off!

precharged lines are evacuated and charged with refrigerant by the manufacture and have quick connect fittings that will seal without leaking the refrigerant. 50' would probably be the longest availible but you might be able to special order longer.
with the lines precharged you dont need to pull a vacuum because there is no air in the lines. pulling a vacuum removes air in the lines and more specificlly moisture. moisture will cause problems if left in system.

I'm not sure what I would do without you guys to ask questions. :Namaste:

As said above I think 50 on special order I believe standard fir ideal at least is 25'

I'm gonna have to take some measurements and figure out exactly how long my run is gonna be. :thanks:

It's ok bro, we just move forward...we good!

I reported my post and it's been edited. :high-five:

Nice on the clones. i like the color scheme also for the clones, great if you have different strains. Also are those the coco plants?

Hi Wiz!

Thanks. I liked the colored discs too. When I went to the hydro store to get them, I was hoping they would have colored ones. They had black too, but black was more expensive. Made that decision easy! I have 6 colors because my first cloner had 6 rows. This one is smaller and only has 5 rows. The other nice thing about the colored discs, is I can write on them with a Sharpie. If you look closely, you can see some of the numbers in the picture. This was great for me since I have 6 strains in there. The colors don't really correlate to each strain obviously. I just wrote in my notebook B1 - 1A2, meaning Blue #1 has a clone from plant 1A2 (strain 1 is TGA Apollo13xVortex, it's seed 'A', and this was clone 2 from that plant). Eventually, the colors will represent which mother they came from. I'm still ramping everything up, so I don't have mature mothers yet. All those plants in the 1g pots are the potential mothers.

And yes, those are coco/perl/verm mix. :)

*********************************************************************************

Got some bud porn for everyone. The Royal Queen Critical was starting to push out nanners, so she got her first harvest. I only harvest the top 'layer' of mature buds. I then put the lowers back into the room to ripen for another week or so.

I noticed the remaining White Widow is also starting to spit out nanners, so she will go down tonight.

Here she is ready to be cut. She's a beauty! For a very long time, this was my favorite plant. She made big fat buds quickly, but the growth seems to have slowed on her. It's time! She will become a mother. It's one of my femmed freebie seeds. I had not planned to make any of those mothers, but this plant is too awesome to not keep the genetics for awhile.
IMG_1919_-_no_EXIF.jpg

Another shot of her. I'm still struggling to get good pictures with my phone. I think it's mostly a lighting issue. The lighting in my basement is bad. Hopefully, by next harvest, I'll have a better camera. Maybe I can find my old P&S somewhere.

The whole harvest hanging.
IMG_1938_-_no_EXIF.jpg

The Bubba Kush branches I dried last week took about 5-6 days on the string. The basement is much warmer now because the AC is heating it with it's exhaust. It hovers around ~73 when the lights are on and ~68 when they are off. Where I have the string is also getting hit with some of the wind from the AC exhaust. That made them dry a little too quick for my tastes. The outside was getting crispy, but the center was still heavy. I jarred them up, then put them on the drying rack for a day (which is out of the AC's 'wind'). Now they are back in the jar and getting several long burps each day. After 3-4 more days, they are just about perfect.

This buds are bigger, so I'm guessing they will need to hang for 6-7 days. I'm going to move them tonight. I'm going to setup another area to hang the buds. That string was just put up quickly in a convenient spot. I'm gonna need about 10 of those strings to finish. :blalol:

Enjoy the bud pr0n. I'm trying to get around to everyone else's journals, but the rest of this month is gonna be crazy busy with work. That's in addition to this harvest and getting everything ready for a house guest that I do not want to know about the basement project. I think I'll be fine. There is NO odor of the buds in the house even though there are several ounces drying in the basement. :)

*********************************************************************************

So that leads me to a question for anyone reading this...

How much do you think this harvest will weigh? I don't really have a prize for you if you win, but I thought it might be fun for everyone to try and guess. You're guessing the weight of that entire string. I have my guess, but I'm not sharing it until after. I don't want to influence anyone else's guess.
