Smoky's Grow - 1st Timer - Need All The Advice I Can Get

Haha. I'm going tomorrow and buying a 6" exhaust fan, duct work and a register. Going to put it in the ceiling of the closet. Does anyone know if I buy a cheap thermostat, is that all I need to have my exhaust kick on at say 84° and turning off at 70°? I don't know shit about this stuff.

I now have a 6" duct fan on the way... I suppose I'll run a thermostat to the fan and exhaust. This is quickly becoming expensive lol

:biglaugh:
I feel ya mate! Spent my wad so quick...cant afford alot of stuff that would be nice to have.. Thermostat? I am my thermostat, have to hope for weather systems that agree with my setup if i plan to leave for more then 4hrs.
Will all be worth it come harvest time:dreamy:

Hello,
It is great to see the excitement of getting ready for that first indoor grow. That being said, everyone will tell you that the number one reason new growers have problems is over watering. While over watering is a biggie, I believe it really is not being patient. See when your not patient you over water, but it also covers other things besides over watering. Being patient about a lot of things, for example growing what your set up will cover and not spending time and resources on more then what your capable of growing from veg to flower.
I agree whole heartedly with Major Pita that that one light will cover one plant and thats it. And depending on how big you let it get before flowering it may not be big enough for that. Since it is only pulling 134 watts at the wall it will not penetrate down deep into the plant like say a 325 at the wall watt LED would. Combined with 2 fixtures you will be at 264 total watts of light. Now does that mean you can't grow good MJ. By no means am I saying that, but if you want to have a good successful grow might I be so humble as to suggest you grow 2 plants your 1st go and veg them to about 16 to 20 inches tall then flip them to flower. Do a few toppings per plant to get more tops, do that early in veg, then go slow and steady till time to harvest.
I suggest this to you for one reason only. Like everyone else who is here, I want you to have the 1st of many successful grows. I love seeing how others grow and with each grow I and everyone else gets a chance to not only teach someone something but we get the chance to learn something too. One day not far down the road you will be in our seats telling some 1st time grower the same things we are telling you now and like us, you will want him/her to have a great 1st time experience so they will continue to learn and grow. Not just as a grower but as a friend.
Take big breaths, do not rush, have faith in your self and in your friends and not only will you be growing your own, but you will be developing friendships along the way that could be life long.
Sorry I do tend to take an hour to get my 1 minute point across. But once you get to know me, you will realize it is because I am old and have bad eyes.

Hi OG - You seem to have a lot of trouble shooting knowledge - Do you mind please looking at my threads and helping me out - no symptoms just a tiny couple of seedlings...

Yeah - they work just fine. I bought two cheap thermostats. One turns on a fan when the temp' gets too high and the other turns on a small heater when the temp's are too low. I bought duct thermostats for about $20 each.

R those the little thermolitic (sp?) cubes attached to a heat sink and fan that exchange heat using electricity? I've done a bit of research. They work... but have too low capacity for cooling a circulating res.
Love the idea and technology tho.

there are always relays. I use a 110v x-10 system to power a relay, that sends power to my 220 circuit running the lights. Works like a charm.

I've been looking all over the interwebs. I suppose I need to buy the lux programmable thermostat for my space heater. Not sure I'm going to have to have one yet or not. Gets down to about 60 in there at night. Maybe colder as winter comes on more. Plants bring up the ambient temperature of a room tho right?

If you look at my journal I am using LED with T5 supplement for veg, plants are great and healthy. Mine is a G13 descendant. Botanicare nutes. I left all colors on my LED going, I supplemented with T5

I've done a dry run with all possible lights on, the 2 LEDs and 2 CFL's and a box fan on medium it seems to stay around 75 and turned off it gets down to 60

Try something like this... a cheap space heater and a $16 Home Depot plain old non programmable thermostat.

Wiring looks simple enough. I know *absolutely nothing* about wiring. My house is old as hell too. I just had the glass fuse fuse box replaced with a breaker box. Only 2 receptacles have the 3 prong plug in
