Stumped's First Grow - 400w MH Closet - Pineapple Kush Bag Seed

By finish will I get 100 grams? With a 400 watt metal halide only. I plan on topping on 5th node and doing some lst on the 6 newer ones and a scrog on the 6 older ones. Might need more veg time?

with a 400 watt High Intensity Discharge light bulb I hope you do better then 100 grams with those plants. that would only be be 0.25 grams per watt efficiency. it appears you have a magnetic ballast and unless it has a switch on the outside cover to switch from Metal Halide to High Pressure Sodium it can not do both. A magnetic ballast is wired differently for each bulb. only Digital ballasts have been shown to manage both Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium without requiring a switch.

Thanks for that info. After this grow I will probably invest in a hps ballast, but I was told and read myself that if I use mh straight through my yield will be slightly smaller but resin will be better and so will quality.

OK so I should be expecting a .5 gpw at least here if I don't have any catastrophic failures or infestations.

My intake fan died late last night. Now I just have ambient air being pulled into the room by the exhaust. No temp difference at all yet. Lights have been on for 6 hours.

Just to make sure I'm not miss diagnosing.

your photograph appear to be splash damage from watering.
OK thank you. I haven't been misting the plants since sprouts. Maybe this was done and I didn't notice because the leafs were smaller at that point.

I won't tinker with my ferts again till I ask for a second opinion. Lesson learned.

Update week 3

sorry if this is abit confusing. I decided to take a new approach on this journal and document each plant.
so this post is actually an update from last week. the next post will be this weeks update. lol

Here they are last week. Plants # 1-6 are on 1/4 strength nutes K 75ppm N 75ppm P 25ppm + 25ppm micro. and were 24 inch from the bulb.

plants #1-#6 on week 3 from seed

Plants #7-#12 started 1 week later so they are on week 2 from seed.

only 1 week apart shouldn't cause me too much hasle come flowering. the 6 younger ones I plan on leaving in veg for another 3-4 weeks, on 4 x 40 watt fluorescent tubes. Then adding them to the room (hopefully having a second light in the room by then).

week 4 update

Here is the week 4 update. Quite a bit of growth. The main reason why I wanted to track the plants this way, is to document there growth and maybe try different techniques over the grow process. so far I been going by the method of waiting for the soil to dry out 2 inches, takes about 4 days at this stage, i imaging this will soak up more water as they grow. I have been watering 500ml every 3-4 days.

plants 1,2 and 3 were topped 2 days ago, and they looked like this after topping.

And here they are today. week 4 for 1-6 and week 3 for 7-12. Today I started half strength nutes. N 100ppm P 100ppm k 50ppm and micro 50ppm. watering was after the pics were taken. and the light is now about 18 inches at closest point and 20 inches at its furthest.

4,5 and 6 are now topped. Pics with next Sunday update. Plants 7-12 should be at 4 nodes by Friday and ready for topping. I assume that is.

There are 4 other unknown seeds in cups and the back pot, without a number. I will not be keeping track of them in this journal, as I'm giving them to a friend once I start flowering my plants. Oct 1st might be day 1 of 12/12. Doing half strength now 100/100/50 + 50 micro.

here is the start of week 5!
everyone is on full strength 200-200-100 + 100 micro.
on plant #2, the leafs seems to be curling over the last week. I gave her straight water for the last 3 waterings in hopes it would help. it didn't help at all. along with the blotchy on the leafs. temps get up to 82 with light now now. light out I haven't tested the temps but i assume its high 60s.

number 9 died. I think I dropped the thermometer on it by mistake. I replaced it with another seedling I got going under cfl. what a size difference, they were started all at the same time.

Im not sure if the plants are big enough to start flowering on the first of oct, that was my original plan of course it didnt go to plan lol. id like to have my smallest no smaller then #2. what do you guys think?

I started LST on 1,2,3 and 6. i think im going to wait another week or 2 before i start flowering.

#3 has 3 shoots coming off the top where I topped the plant. ironc? lol

Tonight will be the first 12 hour darkness cycle. So tomorrow will mark day one of flowering.
I moved 4 plants to my veg box. 4 smallest. So I will be starting with 8 plants. 2-4 weeks from now I plan on adding back the 4 I took out. Taking clones in the meanwhile to keep them short.

I didn't realize what I was doing was hst lol I have read up on LST and hst. Now i understand the difference, My mistake .
For this grow start to finish I'm using the N 200 P 200 K 100 +100 trace formula for veg and flower. NPK raw fertz.

Questions comments and concerns all welcome.
Cheers

Up late smoking on some. I decided to try and make a dwc. I'm an avid fish keeper so 20 gallon totes, pumps and air pumps are in abundance , and Jesus Christ I'm sick of dirt already.
I won't be transferring the 6 in the flower room to dwc. Ill just finish them in dirt. But some of the plants I kept in veg I'm going to try this with.

I have a few questions.
1. For medium in the net pots, can I just use pea gravel? The plant or plants I'm going to transfer already have a good root system, so rockwool isn't needed is it? I just basically need something to hold the plants in the net pots over the water correct?

2. Should I use air stones, spray bars or a combination of both?

3. When I first add the plants to the dwc should I run them on just plain ph'd water? Or should I have a low ppm of say 300 to start?

If anyone can help me that would be sweet. If not I'm going to just do trial and error.
Thanks for checking this out!
