I was running late for work this morning (yes, working on July 3rd!) but I did get a shot of my first leaf pruning. Most of them are the tucked fan leaves on Blueberry 1 (tho I did end up cutting one branch with tiny buds that I probably would have taken off eventually), and the rest were lower leaves under the LST on Blueberry 2.

They all got rinsed, blotted in paper towel, and placed in a zip-lock bag in the freezer.

Not going to do any more until I see if the plants look saddened by the loss.

Happy 4th of July to all those celebrating Independence Day! Quick update before the grilled meats!

I did some thinning of lower branches and buds of Blueberry 1 today, as well as feeding with 1/4 tsp/gallon with Open Sesame.

Think I went too far?

My little runty AK-47 is doing much better. Over 20" and got 2 tsp/gallon of GrowBig yesterday. Also, I took off a couple of fan leaves that were shading the budding buds:

And the LST Blueberry 2. Also got 2 tsp/gal GrowBig yesterday and some more thinning of the undercarriage today.

7 gal smart pots. Probably could have filled them more but I didn't know how much they were going to settle.

Party I went to only had appetizers and tacos. Came home STARVING!

Morning all! Here's today's update. AK-47 looking much better than I expected, but didn't get any pics this morning so y'all are going to have to wait a day for that one.

Here's the LST Blue 2 looking very nice I must say. I'll do some further trimming of lower fan leaves in a couple of days.

Blueberry 1 on day 57 showing a bit of leaf burn at the tips. This is the day after the 1/4 teaspoon of Open Sesame and the bud thinning, so is it a) nute burn, b) stress, or c) natural browning from age?

And here's a key pruning question I haven't gotten a definitive answer on: do I take off the lower buds on these stems to promote the growth of the big bud at the end? If this were a peach tree the answer would definitely be YES.

Should I pinch the buds and leave the sugar leaves?

And another thing, I added more CFLs on Monday night to up my total wattage to 1150 equivalent (6@ 100W EQ 6500K, 4@ 100W EQ 2700K, 2@ 75W EQ 2700K). It's 4 bulbs per plant, half 6500K/half 2700K, ~ 375-400w equivalent each.

It's getting warm and a bit moist in there under the lights at night (no ventilation bc I have to cover the window so the neighbors don't see the bright lights on all night) but everything comes out into the daylight by 8:30am to dry out and soak up the sun (finally!).
