GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 - Soil - Ice & Bubblicious

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Dadums- My pots are pretty large, so pulling them out every time I need to water is too much for me. I remember that when I was looking at shop vacs there was one that snapped onto a bucket. It was cheap and small, but it may work perfectly for this. Aside from that, I will begin watering slowly, and working my way around the garden until they start to ave a bit of runoff (instead of dumping in a gallon).

Outflow ph is 6.0 on average, same as the soil ph. The deficiencies seem to be much better, and the brown spots are healing. The buds are swelling every day, and we have a full five weeks left until harvest (for a 9 week flower). We can drop it to 8 weeks and rework our cycle if it is mature enough by then, but I would like the cycle to be consistent. The carbon filter I made is working well also.

In veg, that 2A Bubblicious plant is still impressing me every day. It has had two full weeks of veg and is very nice and full. Cant wait to flower that one. Veg plants got their nutrients last night.

That's it for the update. Thanks for checking in!

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

I am working my way to that point. I used to guesstimate and dump it in. Now I am being a bit more controlled, giving time for the solution to work through. When I see it come through the bottoms is when I stop.

On another note- What do you guys and gals think about watering with fishtank water? Is it a good idea? Does it count as nutrients, meaning I would have to cut back. Can you grow a plant using fishwater?

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

You have to count anything in your source water. My tap water has about 600 TDS that is HARD water so I use bottled or filtered. I just happened to check what comes off the filter for my now dead ice maker and it's about 470 TDS. You'd want to know what nutes are there and that is not something I'd know. (google is your friend) Old municipal water systems have lead pipes and add lime to the water to coat the pipes which is good for cal/mag. love to see some bud porn. :cheer:

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Glad to have you BWC, now I have to tell you- no heated debates in my thread, got it? Haha, j/k. I actually enjoy a good debate.

Just checked on the girls. Still have some yellowing in the flower room on a select few middle-aged leaves. The others seem to be healing, and they look better overall. A small showing of overwatering is present, but that is because of the flush followed up by the nutrient correction the next day. The veg plants really responded well to last nights nutrients, and that 2A plant is doubling in size every 2 to three days. We have some nice and healthy growth, and more tips are catching up to the canopy. I may have to tie down some secondary growth soon.

I picked up some calmag at the shop today, figured I should have it on hand. Also decided to go with Supernatural nutes mainly, but will still add some of the other brands that I like. I would love to have a full supply of nutrients that I could give weekly by just running down the list and going by the guide, but most of these plans require the purchase of 7 to 10 different products to get from cutting through flowering. Therefore, I will continue to scrap my nutrient collection together and will replace with what I like as time goes on.

Finally, I have my themometer hanging even with the canopy and it read a high of 99 at some point. However, when it was a few inches (about 6) under the canopy it was reading 84. I know it will be slightly warmer than it should be until I get to vent outside, but how should I consider the current readings when there is so much variation based on a slight difference in placement? The plants look fine, no heat stress, buds stll swelling.

Thanks again for taking the time to read our journal. We are glad to have all of you along for the ride, now if you could be along for the smoke, well... it would be fun!

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Be sure to watch bud development in higher temps. Buds get "airy" or less dense/fluffy which is typically undesirable. Usually before this happens leaf margins will turn "up" as a sign of heat stress. Try and get the fan/ventilation thing rectified asap. I believe doing so will save u some avoidable problems. Keep in mind I haven't completely caught up on this journal so if I speak on somethin that's already been covered, please let me know.

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Thanks for the input, it is greatly apprciated- especially from someone with so much experience. I had underestimated the heat output of the lights, and had the fan venting into my garage, thinking that would cool the air. When the garage got to 99, I hooked up an inline fan to the window to blow out air when it gets over 70. However, I now see that I need to vent to outside probably for spring, summer, and fall. Then back inside for the winter to keep temps up in the garage. Problem is I have some big girls, heavy pots, and a lot of strings keeping things in place, and I would need to remove all of them to cut 8" holes through wall one, than through wall two and through the siding, run the ducting, silicone the outside, great stuff the inside, and hook up the fan ducting to the new ducting. I would then have to clean all of the dust out of the room, which would mean the girls would be displaced for a few hours at least, and that is if things go right, which they dont. I was thinking that these girls will have to deal, and I will do the work when I harvest them. The next grow is my first ideal conditions grow, and I am really putting everything I have into them. They should surpass these by far, and judging by the size of them at 2 weeks, I feel they will.

The buds on the girls are looking great so far, much better than my first grow. I will see if I can do anything else to get the temps down temporarily.

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Wow...just read through your entire journal and your doing a very excellent job taking great care of your girls. I really like all the DIY stuff including the carbon filter and the ona fan/bucket!!

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

I found a cheap DIY solution for cooling your garage, It looks pretty simple and the guy was saying that it cooled his trailer down from 104 to like 86. Its basicly a intercooler/radiator box built with a fan, and then a 1/2 gallon per hour pump, cooler with icewater, coiled metal tubing running from the radiator, into the cooler, thru the pump and back into the radiator... don't know if it would be worth trying, but its cheaper than an air conditioner, and not too much construction...

I'll PM you the link because I don't want to junk up your nice journal :)

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Hey nice grow man. I am not sure if you have grown bubblelicious before but I am at day 60 with my bubblelicious, around 30 days into flower, and I can tell you it loves N in flower. I started with bloom but then quickly realized that it still wanted N. Just my 2 cents.

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Finally subscribed to a journal... :) I'll try to keep the superfluous comments to a minimum in here, just wanted to let ya know I'm following.

One question, when you say perpetual harvest, how many stages/how often are you planning to harvest this garden? I currently have an up-and-coming perpetual, but with 8 strains and only a 6'x6' flowering space, I'm only looking at pulling 2-4 plants evey 1-2 weeks (I've been staggering them in there at various stages to keep things flowing smoothly).

Anyway, good luck guys! Can't wait to see how things end up... again, and again, and again... :grinjoint:

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Hey Icemud, thanks for the kind words. I am going to see if I can borrow an AC unit, I wouldnt mind building the air cooler, but it is a bit of material to sacrifice for such a short amount of time. I am going to turn that exhaust fan up a notch to try to keep the air in the garage a bit cooler. Additionally, I am still unsure of where I should have my thermometer placed for a reading I should go by. It is only a few inches from the light, and when placed elsewhere it reads much cooler.

Yoho- this is my first bubblicious grow, and I am seeing the N deficiencies along with many otheres. I seem to have just got the issue under control, and have realized these girls can handle more nutrients thann I had thought. We are at the same day of flowering, do you have pics around or a journal? Would love to take a look. Thanks for the tip as well!

CP- are we your first? We broke your journal cherry? Comment away, no need to hold back here! For the perpetual harvest we have a seperate clone area, a vegetative room, and a flower room. Being that our girls take 9 weeks to flower, we will be using that scedule.

A clone will be taken 2 weeks and 3 days before the 9 week mark. At that mark, the flower plants will be harvested, the veg plants will move into the flower room, and the now rooted clones will move to veg. We are going to LST, and have big pots for our plants so they will have plenty of room to grow. I like the idea of a long veg, I think it will bring good results.

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Thank you guys for the warm welcome... :) And yup, this is my first, gotta admit the 'perpetual harvest' caught my attention.

So what I meant about your schedule or 'how many stages' is how often are you planning to harvest from this garden after the initial 9 weeks? Or if I'm understanding the schedule you laid out, you guys are growing a full crop to 9 weeks, harvesting the full crop, starting another (with the clones from the first, of course)..?

In mine I started 4 plants originally, then about 2.5 weeks later I started 2 more, then maybe 1 the next week... and so on. It's not the most 'organized' system but then again, it's hard to keep an organized schedule in a small medical grow with 8 (soon to be 9) strains flowering in a 6'x6' area. I tried to find 8-week strains to introduce every 2 weeks, but most of mine vary anywhere from 7-10 weeks, one or two I expect to be closer to 12, but either way I expect to be yanking at least 2-4 plants every other week or so of all different sizes & strains.

Oh, same here with the clones tho, I don't have the flowering space for full-size mothers so I cycle mine out each crop.

Just my 2 cents but the optimal place for the thermometer is at the canopy level, and as long as the air is moving in your space there shouldn't be any hot spots but you can check by holding your hand just above canopy level. I have a digital IR thermometer (the gun type with a laser sight that you point, shoot and instant reading), makes it much easier to scan the whole room for hot spots or sitting air.

I have to go back and check out your garage cooler idea, we might be needing to utilize something similar come summer time... so far, so good tho. :grinjoint: Can't wait to see how that Bubblicious finishes up... and when are they gonna invent scratch-in-sniff LCD's already? :)

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Hey CP, we have two seperate rooms, So a clone will be cut from a plant in our veg room, go to a cabinet to root, then back to the veg rooms. The plants that were in there will be moved to the flower room, and the ones from the flower room will be harvested. So our veg cycle will be 9 weeks, and flower will be 9 weeks. From being a rooted clone to harvest will be 18 weeks. That is why we have such big pots. We are going to let these girls grow big before flower! We should have a harvest every 9 weeks, and they should be from big plants.

I like the way you are doing it as well, but I figure it is less confusing to deal with only a few strains, and clones from those strains. How many strains you have going on? Bubblicious is supposed to be finished flowering in 8 weeks, if you were looking for a new strain.

I cant wait for that big bud in the back, she smells so good!

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

Man, I'm *always* looking for new strains... lol Unfortunately my eyes are bigger than my wallet and space at the moment, but once we start harvesting that'll free up some additional funds for further expansion.

Currently we have 8 (well, 10 technically but 2 didn't clone so once they're done, that's it), one more coming in about a week or so from my buddy. From uh... oldest to newest... :)hmmmm:) :

Blue Dream, DJS Blueberry, OG Kush & Purple Kush (BD and OG didn't clone... bummer :rolleyes3 ), then GDP and Hashberry, Berry White (White Berry/Blue Widow, whatever) and Maui, Godfather OG (my new replacement for the OG, could do without the GDP as well) and I have an Ultraviolet on the way. Whew... did I miss any?

I really do have kind of a running schedule in my head but ultimately I'm letting the plants tell me when they're done since all but the Blue Dream are new to me. Anywhere from 7-11 weeks I figure, LOL. Fuuuun fun fun... :grinjoint:

Re: GreenChrome's Perpetual Grow Journal Volume 1 (Soil, Ice & Bubblicious)

I want to get really good at growing a few strains, so I will grow them out until I am bored with them. I figure I can always trade with another grower with too much of the same bud. I think the next strain we are going to add in is great white shark. I think my garden can support a max of 4 strains, allowing us to grow one of each per cycle. It sounds like you have some good strains going, did you start these from seed?

I am sure you will always have a good supply with this setup. How are you cloning? I need to get a solid method down.
