Ricky Bobby's - Soil - T5 - Sativa - SOG - First Journal

Morning OG! Ahh it feels so good to be a favorite! I hope to continue that! Thanks! I'll be over to your journal shortly to snoop around. The weekend was good, hope yours was as well, I think I gained that other 5 lbs we were talking about so I'm right on track haha.

Fear not RB until someone can do a SOG with nothing but dixie cups and a Bic lighter you will always be my favorite. :circle-of-love:

Wife told me the other day i was well rounded, I thought she meant I was smart, apparently she was talking about my waistline:high-five:

Hey Ricky, I found the article I mentioned earlier. Part of it was research by various sources and part from the author. I am just posting the more important part as its a long article.

From literature and from our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or a female cannabis plant from marijunaa seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. Not only the origination of entirely male or female marijuana plants is partly affected by these environmental factors, the number of male and female cannabis flowers on a hermaphrodite plant is affected as well.

The environmental factors that influence the sex of the cannabis plant (or the flower in the case of hermaphrodites), are among other things:

The quantity of nitrogen and potassium of the seedbed. Humidity and moistness of the seedbed.
Level of temperatures.
Colour of the light used.
Length of daylight.

Stress, any form of stress, makes that more male individuals will originate from seed. Even the taking of cuttings from female cannabis plants may produce male or hermaphrodite cuttings.

To optimise the result, changes in one or more of the above-mentioned environmental factors for a certain period during marijuana growth, may be applied. During this time these environmental factors will deviate from the standard growing system for maximum harvest and quality, as described in nursery literature. The desired change(s) in the environmental factor(s) are started from the moment that the marijuana seedling has three pairs of real leaves (not counting the seed-lobes). This is the moment that male and/or female predisposition in florescence is being formed. After approximately two weeks the standard growing system can be reconverted to.

Of the 5 above-mentioned environmental factors the first three are the most practical:
1.Level of nitrogen and potassium of the seedbed: A heightening of the standard level of nitrogen makes for more female cannabis plants originating from the weed seeds. A lowering of the nitrogen level shows more male cannabis plants. A heightening of the level of potassium tends to show more male marijuana plants, while a lowering of the potassium level shows more female marijuana plants. A combination of a higher nitrogen level for the period of a week or two and a lowering of the potassium level is recommended.
2.Humidity and moistness of the seedbed: a higher humidity makes for an increase in the number of female cannabis plants from weed seed, a lowering for an increase in male cannabis plants. The same is valid for the moistness of the seedbed.
3.Level of temperatures: lower temperatures make for a larger number of female marijuana plants, higher temperatures for more male marijuana plants.
4.Colour of light: more blue light makes for female cannabis plants from seed, more red light makes for more male cannabis plants.
5.Hours of daylight: few hours of daylight (e.g. 14 hours) makes for more female individuals, a long day (e.g. 18 hours) makes for more male cannabis plants.

Now let me just make a few adjustments here to this. You can do whatever you want to your cannabis plants in seedling stage and early vegetative stage of growth and it will not effect your final male to female ratios. The time when things should be near perfect is in or around the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative growth.

In the article, he claims getting 90-95% females from regular seed following this protocol.

That is interesting info RC! I have recently started to amend my soil too. Kinda shooting from the hip at ratios but I do know that N of my soil is UP and K(potassium) is DOWN. However, this writer seems to believe that the weeks a and 4 are when the plant determined sex. I am a little unsure of that part as 12/12 from seed plants are fully showing sex in week 3 or 4. So I am curious for 12/12 from seed what time frame is the optimal conditions most important.

I do like the idea of shorter hours of daylight for seedling as in nature when they first germinate in the spring the daylight hours are not going to be 18/6 or even close to it. 13/11 would probably be a good place to start with seedlings. I'll adjust my timers to 13/11 I think for a while now too see.

I did order some "ball juice" as I believe Fanleaf called it lol. Colloidal silver and am going to experiment with trying to make female seeds and see what all the hype is about. I've been reading through the info that RSO provides and there is some good stuff there. Toker69 has some very good info out there that I will try to finish up on reading today. This will be a side project in addition to trying to maximize female plants from regular seeds based on seed attributes and environmental conditions.

For the side project, I'll prob start a different journal, I am thinking I'll make a wooden box frame. Probably 12 x 12 inches. Can fit three 2 liter plants easy and sit on a 5 gallon bucket. The bottom of the frame will be open to lift over the plants. The lower 10 inches of the frame will be cardboard sides so I can put a pc fan pulling air out and a hepa filter to catch pollen and a little air inlet. The top and upper sides will be clear shrink wrap plastic that I have. That way I don't have to add any lights I can just have these plants under the mars reflector sitting on a 5 gallon bucket next to another flowering plant and let them go about their business. I'll probably put a couple wheels on the bucket so I can roll the whole thing out of the gr and lift the top off to fiddle with the experimental plants and then put the top back over them. Roll them back under the light and plug in their fan to and extension cord up where the other LED lights are plugged in.

Then hopefully I'll have two or three plants full of female seeds to try out. And then take them to this farm I know and sprinkle a few here and a few there and then come back in the fall lol

Morning Ricky :)

Sounds like some experimental fun in your future :) I will be following along and if you start a second journal to document it, shoot me a PM :)

As for the light schedule, when I started growing last winter, I opted for 14.5/9.5 as I intended to put plants outside in May and wanted to more or less match the daylight hours here in May. Under that light they grew fast, healthy and nice tight nodes so I have continued with that schedule for veg on all my girls :)

Morning Robert!

Experimental fun indeed, I will shoot you a link to the other journal when i start it. The collidal silver(cs) will be here in a few days and the lovely thing about my perpetual grow is I can pick a new young girl and start spraying immediately and pick two other younger but vigorous females in a couple weeks to join the reverse Bruce Jenner plant. In 60-90 days we should have seeds!

Interesting you mentioned that. I was just about to pull of the farmers almanac see if it had sunrise and set for may in my area. Or the weather channel might have some historical data. I was thinking it would be good to match that as well. I got to see what I have my timers on now as I had been fiddling with it but I think I am on 18/6 right now.

No clue Ricky, but I feel that he left behind a great CS journal. I even read it twice making my note so it would be clear to me when I was ready to jump in to seed production.
I'm enjoying your journal as well Ricky, great job.

RSO I'm glad your enjoying the journal! It's a little lack luster but it gets the job done. It's a shame toker69 is gone but most defiantly did leave behind a good tutorial for us. My CS should be here tmr or Monday I think.

Few photos. No major news. I feel a harvest coming soon. Pistils are going brown on several plants. I prefer the early harvest high as do the people I am caretaker for so they will get chopped 50% cloudy 0% amber most likely. Some plants have pistils completely brown but trichs are still probably 60% clear. Trying to give them a couple days to cloudy up. Moms got defol to try to get them to bulk up some. The more promising mom originally seems as though it's going to be light yield and the less promising will be heavier. Some of the newer seedlings are getting very tall as you can see. Some of the young ones are in the far right rows now to keep them out of the lights and the shorter plants that are close to harvest are shuffled to the left. To try to keep the lights a couple inches from the tops of all plants.

Worth mentioning I made some cookies with some keif that I screened off of trim like 7 months ago and those cookies are like horse tranquilizers. Very clear high at first and then all of a sudden I could sleep for a month. Since i suffer from insomnia that's a great thing to have around but not what I want for my afternoon and chilling high.

Looking good Ricky, looking forward to your harvest and a weight count

Would you mind detailing your cs project?

Thanks RSO! I am too. The plants from seed I am hoping for an average of 12 grams per plant, from clone maybe 7 or 8 grams per plant would be great. The moms, no idea, an ounce each would make me happy but would really love to see like 1.5 or so each. Looking forward to finding out!

I will most deff detail the CS project. Probably a separate journal I'll start when I get it going.

I'm wandering where to get a little spray bottle for the cs. I was thinking of that spray for your sore throat, cloraspetic or something like that. But it might even be too large of a spray. Need a little tiny finger push spray bottle. Almost like old breath freshener things that used to be popular

Some harvesting will be going on this weekend I think. Not a great deal but some. One mom pistils lead me to believe it's almost done but thays only 6 or 7 weeks flowering. Maybe good. No one has been fed, I'm sure some are really dry. Will get water n nutes tonight for everyone. Here are random photos. Humidity spiked yesterday. Hope winter hits soon. Normally we have snow two months ago, I'm still wearing short sleeves and no jacket. Wth? Some tips are turning purple.

Morning Ricky Bobby,

Looking good my friend :bravo:

Those buds are hairier then a 70's porn star

AllI can say is

Those are my favorite kind OG! Lol the good ole days. It just might be a hazy Christmas. Hope so cuz I'm down to bout 1/4 oz in my stash, that's like the needed on my gas gauge below E! Gas light on, bout to be pushing the car

Hey RB....greasy lookin buds ya got there....:tokin: Lookin nice my brotha. Keep up the great work !:high-five:
Thanks brother! Going to try and keep it up and make it better every go round. I aspire to have buds as frosty as you and OG!

Thanks MR.A, I'm about to get subbed up on your grow!

A lot happened over the weekend. Was a busy weekend. Both moms got wacked. One was done and the other started this stuff....
1211151757.jpg

Similarly all of the clones did the same thing from that mom and all got wacked too. Slightly premature but I like early harvest for myself so they will stay with me.
They are all hanging to dry.

I suspect yields will be quite low as they have been in the past but potency will be real high. The plants from seed that will be havested in a couple weeks will out weight the clones by 2 to 3 times as much. Bunch of seedlings out to replace the 2 liters on the table.two new 5 gallon pots out under the MH LED. One is for sure female. The lighter color one I believe is female but I'm not 100% on that. It is the strangest plant I've ever seen. Went about twelve nodes in six inches of height and then topped it self. The branches are growing the same way. Super tight node spacing. Might be a magical plant.

This journal will be considered complete when the plants from seed are chopped but I think ill continue it through these new plants under the MH led, I'll call them mars plants, and more seedlings on the table.

Thanks to everyone that has followed along and given hints, tips, tricks, advice and encouragement !
