How to use a jewelers loop properly?

I bought a jewellers loop. The 40x one and when I look through it I can’t tell of the trichomes are clear or milky ! I took a picture I’m just not sure what I’m seeing or if my plant is ready. I’ve added a pic, maybe someone can tell me if theses are clear or milky.

The plants strain is Forbidden Runtz. It just smells amazing right now!

Nice work @DrBigP It's hard to take those pics.
They are all clear trichomes mostly.
See those light colored pistols that means your early.
She is still building for you.
When pistols are all red and crinkled in check your trics.
Then you want milky with a little amber for a relaxed effect.
Do you have your cure process ready to go ,it won't be long now?
Be ready.
Do you feed right upto harvest then turn your lights out for 36 hrs..
Stay safe.

loupes can be a bit tricky to use,, especially a 40x one,, that is powerful, indeed

there is a sweet spot where the loupe focuses,, a steady hand and good light is essential

you will be thrilled with what you see when you get the loupe figured out

they are a little tricky at first. you can get mini-scopes for phones and tablets too if old school doesn't work for you.

Have a look at this microscope.
Price has gone up but they work great.
Direct pics to your phone.
Stay safe.

Oops I kinda screwed that up.
But you can see it's easy and very accurate.
Great pics.

Here is one from that scope.
You can see clear and cloudy trics side by side.
Stay safe.

One problem with magnification is image stability, seems one can’t hold the device steady enough to get a decent view… presto magico - snip a small section of top calyx, carry to table & prop up your device for viewing stability

welcome aboard DrBigP, your sample looks adequately frosted - nice work!!

Yip thanks for the tips Bill. Most of the pistols are yellow orange and some still white. I haven’t seen red yet. I feed every 4 days due to her drinking so much at this point. I’m going full organic so no need to flush, but I will feed her water for last week about 3L ever 2nd day right up to harvest. Peace ✌️

So when you do look at those trichomes and you see clear and cloudy are you looking at the ball on top or the stick? Thank you so much.
Color change starts at the tip and eventually effects the stem.
But your looking at the ball on the end.

Stay safe

I have an old cell phone I want to try and see if I can't tape a Jewelers loop to the back of it. I am stoked bro and I'm kind of like a MacGyver sometime I'm sure I'll figure something out to make it easier or buy me that damn magnifier that looks beautiful. I'm even more stoked cuz I'm about to smoke that big old fat homegrown right there you see. Honestly you seen the pic of my harvested butt off the two plants that's growing even though I know it's immature I'm a long time weed connoisseur it's not so bad at all bro pretty good I imagine it's going to knock socks off when it's all the way done.

I use a Carson MicroBrite Plus 60x-120x hand-held mini microscope w/ built-in LED light, $15.

I also have a Celestron that does a great job for taking photos w/ built-in 5mp camera (still or video):

I took this shot with the Celestron... focus was on the fungal filaments not the trichomes:

@cbdhemp808
Are those fungal filaments? They almost look like mite webbing. I wonder if Hawaii has different molds than we do here in the continental bits of the states. My only experience with bud rot was an ugly deep grey/black mess, nothing soft fluffy and white like on your pic.

I'm quite sure it's the very beginning of bud rot – the first fungal hyphae. This is at the microscopic scale deep inside the bud. Whereas mold and fungus are common on my buds, I never see any mites. These filaments are what gives rise to webs of grey/brown mess.
