Mr. 9-Milly Attempts Autos Again

I'll just apologize in advance for my lack of chatter this week. I'm tied up in another big plumbing contract and have minimal screen time.

I'll pop in when I can. Hope to be back at my lazy-day routine next week.

Off we go!

The ladies seem pretty happy to be back on the 20/4 light schedule. Growing at a much faster pace now.

Here's a few pics from this morning.

Did a bit of work in the shed today....
:morenutes:

All the babies were moved up to the 3 gallon pots and watered about a 1/2 liter of straight water; just enough to wet up that pre-charged coco around the transplant area.

Real simple "reverse sandcastle" method.... and I actually remembered to hit all of the pots with mycorrizae this time too.
:thumb:

I used a sprayer bottle to wet down the rootball and the transplant hole before sprinkling the mycos. Helps it to stick well to your medium.
Didn't get any "root porn" pics while I had them out of the cups because I'm a bit of a clutz. I don't play around at all when I have that baby in my hand. LoL
Especially these autos... it's just not worth the risk for me.

Anyhow, here they are... happy as can be.

I think the 2 BlackBerry Kush autos are a bit wet, hence the droop. I expect they will bounce back by the end of the day.

Everyone else seems to be happy & healthy.

RH has been in the 30% range lately, so they will be wearing their hats for awhile longer.

Hope y'all had a great weekend.

Howdy y'all!
Come one, come all! Everyone is welcome here and definitely encouraged to ask questions and share opinions!
:welcome:

It's an exciting time around the Milly home! The winter girls are almost finished, so we're gonna squeeze in a group of autos before the summer drop.
:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

I was blessed with a few auto beans from my homeboy @Bilbobudkin420 , and I still had a few beans laying around. Finally decided on 4 strains.

I will be attempting the Super Lemon Haze auto from Green House Seed co. Lemon strains seem to be my nemesis; I'm dropping 2 of them this time.

I'll also be running 2 BlackBerry Kush auto and 1 Grapefruit auto from Fast Buds.

Strain #4 will be 1- Dreamberry auto from Auto Seeds.

6 total plants... as long as we get 100% germination. Fingers crossed...
:adore::adore::adore:

I start my seedlings the same way, almost every time. LoL It works well for me, so I stick with it.

Beans get a soak for about 24 hours in regular tap water. I can tell when they are ready to move into the paper towel when, they sink on their own, or sink when touched. Most times they are floating, I give them a little tap, and they sink like a rock.
:thumb:

After the water bath, I move them into a wet paper towel, inside a baggy. They will sit on a dark shelf in my closet until they show tap roots.

Now... most growers will start their autos in the final pot... I've done this many, many times. I've just found it a little bit safer to start in the cup with a mild starting mix before up-potting to straight coco. It affords me a buffer zone so I don't fry my babies in the coco mix, if I charged it a little hot.... If I were in soil, they would start in the 3 gal pots right away.

Here's the mix I will be using on this group.

I've also adopted these cups... they release from the soil, flawlessly. Makes for an easy transplant, that's why I don't worry much about "up-canning" an auto.

Once I'm comfortable with their size, I'll move them into 3 gal fabric pots to finish out their days.

This grow will be straight coco again. I'll charge the medium with 1/4 strength nutes and treat the transplant area with mycos before moving the babies into the bigger pots.

Since this is a brand new journal, I'm sure I forgot a bunch of pertinent info... I'll update as I figure out what's missing.

Stay lifted homies! Hope we get a good group to hang out for this journey...

Q&A time.

That sandcastle method you use? Do you put a pot upside down and fill around it, or just put the pot upside down in an already filled pot and form it? I was thinking if it was formed, the soil would be too compact. But I would imagine the roots can pretty much break through it.

I use an empty cup (same size as the seedling cup) to create the cavity while I'm filling the pot. Once full, I remove the dummy cup and set in the cup that has the seedling in it.

I'll leave that seedling, cup and all, sitting in the cavity of the bigger pot for about a week. This allows all that loose coco to settle around the cup, leaving a perfect hole to transplant.

Then I pop them out of cups, sprinkle with mycos, and drop in the slot. Top them up with loose coco, then water.

Just cal mag and ph water to 5.8 or what fir those autos starting ?

Also is there a need to pre charge that seedling mix before planting ?

Ahhhh, You leave the whole kaboodle in there! I've seen it done that way but not leaving the seedling and medium in the cup as well for the week.

The seedling mix has a light dose already. I don't mess with any pre-charging there.

The coco they are up-potted into is straight coco. Charged with 1/4 strength nutes, then allowed to dry out before transplant. When I move them up to the straight coco, I hit them with tap water for 2-3 days to gently introduce them to the nutes, then I will start titrating up from there.

I haven't used my ph pen in probably 6 months. My babies get straight tap water while in cups and the first few days in the new pots. After they get some legs, I'll start alternating feed/water on a "water/water/feed" schedule through veg.
They will get watered or fed every 24 hours. I don't generally introduce cal/mag until I see a need for it...ie, late in flower for almost all my coco grows.
