QUICK UPDATE
Jan 23, 2015

THE GERMINATION EXPERIMENT

ROUND 1 / Day 6

SIP Seedling with her sidekick Good Luck Clover

She took 3 days to sprout.

IMG_00007014.jpg

RAPID ROOTER & ROCKWOOL

The Rapid Rooter never sprouted & has been discontinued.
The Rockwool sprouted the 1st day & will be planted today.

IMG_00007009.jpg

Round 2 / Day 3

The Rapid Rooter sprouted in 2 days.
The Rockwool hasn't sprouted yet.

Round 3 / Day 1

IMG_00007036.jpg

The Rapid Rooter peeked within the time I buried her this morning until I took this pic; Appx 3hrs.
The Rockwool also seems to be ready to peek. I can only imagine what will be waiting for me when I get home.

IMG_00007064.jpg

So my results are as follows:

Tap-roots sprout quicker in cubes than they do in Soil or a Soiless Mix.
Rapid Rooter & Rockwool cubes are pretty much equal as far as sprouting rates go.
We also have to take into consideration that all beans used in this experiment were bag seeds & not identical strains.
It was only a 3 round test.

And remember:
When using plugs make sure to cover the sides by fitting them into a non-transparent dish or wrapping them. Rockwool cubes come pre-wrapped.
Squeeze the water out of the cubes before inserting the seed.
Don't let the cubes sit in standing water.
Spray at least twice a day.

So counting everything we had a 62.5% sprout rate.
With the plugs alone we're at a 66.6% sprout rate with 2 seeds still unaccounted for waiting to be part of this equation.

QUICK UPDATE
Jan 21, 2015

We're just getting started daT.

Here's the dry weights on the 2 plants chopped on the last update of New City Grower 2.0

SECOND WAVE STREET GIRL
(Unknown Strain) Chopped on Jan 18

IMG_00006843.jpg

CARAMELA
Chopped on Jan 18

We only dried the main cola. The bottom of this plant was left on the trunk to re-veg.

IMG_00006764.jpg

That's nearly an OZ combined. If we can do this or better every week or week 1/2 once this perpetual grow is in full swing I'll be satisfied.

Next is "the best way to germinate experiment" (highest sprout rate). We've narrowed it down to Rapid Rooters, SIP (Sub Irrigation Planter) with 75/25% Perlite/LI Grower's Mix, & Rockwool cubes. In the first round the Rockwool cube is by far the winner with the SIP running 2nd.
The bean in our soiless peat-moss/perlite/vermiculite mix hasn't even poked it's head out yet.

Day 4 / Round 1

SIP Sprout with her sidekick Good Luck Clover

RAPID ROOTER & ROCKWOOL

The RR doesn't know what it wants to do but the RW is off to the races.

IMG_00006893.jpg

Day 1 / Round 2

We'll just let the 2 cubes go toe to toe.

IMG_00006822.jpg

Our next experiment has to do with a convo we were having earlier today on Jesstar's Thread about cloning Autos. I'll let the pics do the talking.

AFGHAN KUSH (Auto) Day 29

This 1st pic's for you Bonzmoking.

Thanks for that mate, she is looking good :)

Here's that first sprout from the "germination experiment". We planted it in my version of PJ's Organic Soil Mix. I have been reading up on soil & has made a few tweaks to it. I also sprayed the inside of the Soda Pop Pot with Neem Oil before hand so let's see how it works.

Hey Reg:)....great update.cant wait to see how great that turns out:).......now i have a question for you ......have you tried the rapid rooters without covering the sides up?......i have never done this, but like my roots popping out the sides as it makes me feel better when i put them in what ever media i am using that i can spread them out and in my mind anyhow it quickens the process of them stabilizing themselves in the new media:)lol....i hope that makes sense, but if you have done it both ways and find it being covered is better i want to give it a go:)

I'm just starting to use cubes again Dirty. When I first started I had poor success with rapid rooters so I stop using them. If you saw in my last post roots came through the sides of the rockwool cube as much as it did the bottom; even though it was covered. I'll let you know if the same happens with the RR

So counting everything we had a 62.5% sprout rate.
With the plugs alone we're at a 66.6% sprout rate with 2 seeds still unaccounted for waiting to be part of this equation.
Now that the last two have sprouted the
cube success rate has gone from 66.6% to 71.2%. Not bad for bag seeds. We'll start germinating some of our known strains now.

Hopefully we will see soon enough guys. On another note:

We have a new lady in the house.

SLEESTACK X SKUNK (Regular) Day 80 / Day 5 under 12/12

We spotted her first pistils today.

IMG_00006937.jpg

SPIDER GIRL I
(Unknown Strain) Day 88 / Day 44 under 12/12

She's pregnant!
I think our 2nd Wave Street Girl that hermied pollinated her. The were next to one another & hopefully she was the only one it got to. There's a good chance of that because that Street Girl was 165 days old when chopped & when plants hermie to self pollinate for survival the pollen usually falls instead of floats. Anyway, we can always use more beans.

IMG_00006946.jpg

Those are seeds & not balls right? Is it even possible to have male sacs & pistils?

I didn't think so but so help me I saw it on here the day before yesterday... I can't even remember who's journal it was but it has hairs and balls... craziest thing I have ever seen. Wish I could remember who it was and it turned out they were all fem seeds and every one he had popped had come in male then this one he thought was a female and it threw pistols then balls. Crazy Man!....:circle-of-love:
