CrazyCarl's First Grow LED 100% Indoor

Day 11 PM from seed

Ok evening update

You asked about heat well LED honestly there is very little heat from the light. You have to put your hand about a inch away to really feel it. One of the main reason I went LED Heat and power consumption. As for the rest nothing really to report, I moved my fan to blow air out of that chamber. I need to finish my fan and painting.

You will see the Temps were up there so that is reason I moved fan to blow air down but keep movement in that chamber

At this time I believe I am going to keep 3. I am going to see what I get from that Tahoe OG. It was freak seed in a bag might as well try and see what I get. Also eyeing the big BA and the Maui Waui's all look great. Those seed from Nirvana have been going like crazy

Day 12 AM from seed

Checked on them this morning temps down to where I want them. So fan helped. They are still moving along well the ones that are. Watered them some more. They seem to be drinking about every day so might have to have my wife check them Friday night and give them a drink. Here are the morning photos they are some happy plants they like this light a lot more. Starting to get second set of leaves woot !!!!! :cheer:

Looking good - your ladies are only 2 days behind mine.

I had one similar to yours "doing nothing" - it pushed through the dirt but never showed its leaves and eventually it died. You seem to be having a pretty good success rate so try not to worry about it if it dies.

Ok back to the updates

Day 15 from seed this is PM

Nothing new the plants look good. Wife watered them when I was away. I took the time and got all my fans in and put primer over some spot that keep showing through the roof paint. Hope to wrap the box up this weekend. Plants look great

I took the 2 no shows out and arranged them better. One of the extras I planted is showing hope the other is on it's way. They seem to love that light

Day 16 from seed AM

Well my fans are working now. I got everything working minus the vent out fan. So I have air in box and moving between chambers/ Temps were down this morning where I want them. The new sprout coming up is looking good as are the others. I just topped water in the seed cups and left others alone.

If I got time tonight will be moving them into bigger cups bust out the Dixie cups

Day 17 from seed

Moved them last night into dixie cups. Man I hope they survive it was not pretty. After that I have decided next grow I will probably just go with clones. I can get them in about any strain.

So put them back under the light last night and hoped for the best. This morning they seemed to be doing ok. Nothing dead like I expected. Will still probably do clones next time as I can just get my rotation down then. Will see and I wanted to do one from seed.

Here are the photos they look ok. They really did not have ton roots when swapping they could have gone another week in the containers they were in but I was afraid they would grow into the mess. I did not want that so went for it.

The one new plant is moving other has no shown. With the fact I might be just going to go clone. I might just start the rest of my seeds when I clear that spot for starting

day 18 from seed AM

They look good the 3 leaners are still leaning some but look good even with the lean.

My new start looks good. Honestly it is teaching me more light = faster growing. It is already about 7 days ahead of my first starts under that little pos light. Lesson learned. I am probably 8-12 day behind due to the lesser light. Lesson learned and if I go clone next time will not even factor as I have put a good light in veg area.

Got temps down some in morning no water this morning or last night

Day 18 from seed PM

Well they were still leaning but they did not feel like they were leaning due to being weak so I rotated the cup around and let them be

Second seed started to pop

everything looked good water to the seedlings nothing to the others. I did move them around to better get the light

day 19 from seed AM

Man they look great this morning. I have been trying to get the temps down. My garage is just hot this time of the year. So been venting the doors more so it cools off. This morning temps looked great . My leaners are starting to straiten out

IMG_20130725_060229.jpg

I figure I am little over week behind due to the low light but I have learned a lot already.

The lean is about gone and honestly I am surprised they all lived. When I swapped cups it was bad. I also feel some of that problem was that I have been watering too much. The roots I feel do not reach for the water and then they never form a nice big root ball at this stage. That is a theory I worked up in my head and is probably BS but seemed they did not have the roots formed like I wanted. Like the root ball was the size of a dime when I moved them.

Yeah, it can be a pain to try and find that point of not over or underwatering... but if you overwater, you're right, the roots won't stretch and support the plant well... also will be stunted growth. So no, not necessarily BS. Even regular plants outside you're better to water heavily once to twice a week to encourage deep root growth, than watering lightly every day, which will not encourage that strong, deep growth and your plants will wilt faster, not produce as well, have weaker support, etc.

Do you have a moisture meter? If not, pick up a cheap $10 one. Don't water until the meter tells you it's in the middle to bottom of the red zone... I'm having to use it on one plant as I had to drop it into a pot that I'm not familiar with using an organic soil I'm not used to using inside... I almost overwatered myself the day before yesterday, then used my "outside" meter to check and was glad I did... I just fed her about an hour ago and she was ready today.

Which light do you have above them again? Was it a UFO or one of those 12 - 14v square panels? If it's the cheap square ones, you need the lights pretty close, they're low watt leds... I'd throw a couple of 45w 6500k CFLs if it's the little LED, if it's a UFO, then you should be good with it 18 - 24" above the plants...

BTW carl, they don't look bad, just young... they have real tight inter-node structure, but I would have guessed between 7 and 10 days old, not 19, so maybe you need more light or the light closer, as well as to check the watering times. ;)

You're stacking cups, yes? One for catching runoff? If so, make sure you empty the runoff cup a little while after watering and again the next day, otherwise the soil can stay too wet and not allow the plant's roots to get air. I put a little hydroton, bottle caps, aquarium gravel, whatever in the bottom of runoff cups to keep a bit of a "runoff resevoir" to allow for better drainage.

:Namaste:

doopie, depends on the LED... some will crisp your plants if too close, others have to be real close. I'll be starting up LED next month in the closet myself and running the HPS in the tent... Usually though, your LED should have recommended heights and coverage area... those are good places to start with... start at the high end on height and lower a couple inches daily until you're at the minimum height or until your plants leaves start bleaching out... if they start bleaching, move the light back up a bit. That's what I understand from watching all the LED grows, asking a million questions and doing research on LED growing of non-cannabis plants as well.

thanks rune +reps

Yea I will get the double cups cleared out. I got a dam lug stud right in the middle of the area the light is hanging. So setting up a drain area for the cups was a pain so just doubled them for quick fix. When I get the light mounted in that area in it's final resting spot I will make sure the floor below it if free of obstacles.

At first I was using that small pos LED. It will work for starting seeds but beyond that they need real light. They are under my progrow 180 witch I plan to keep in that section.

doopie welcome and the light is maybe 3 max 4 inches away . The nice thing about the LED is all the heat from them is top side on the back side of the LED's. You have to almost put your hand on the light to really feel the heat . I will take couple pictures with a lighter or something to give yea a idea of how far they are from them
