Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

Old my ass. :battingeyelashes: Ain't nothin' old about you. :laughtwo:
Young at heart baby. Young at heart. :battingeyelashes:

The spirit and heart are young. Rarely think I'm older than 25... Until I am reminded about my knees, hips, and back. :surrender:

I had something really interesting to post, then I saw those two sweet booties and completely forgot what it was...

Oh well. Esos son buenos colillas!

Peace, Hyena

I think if you've ever started your car or truck with a big button on the floor you're as old as me. I was sad when the dinosaurs died.

No matter how old we get, it's always better than the alternative. I had several friends never given the opportunity.

And on a side note to that, I think as an old man I appreciate the ample bottoms of SYTs a whole lot more now than when I was in my 20s. Probably because I'm not as up close and personal with them as I used to be.

Monday Morning Photo Update. ;)

Day 60 MBAP. Getting thick and hard to move around in the tent.

And look who has finally joined the party. My little DDA on Day 35. She has enough water in the container to last her lifetime.

The Stilton Special girls. Day 34, gaining an inch a day finally. Any one want to guess how tall they'll get? :)

Dam bro those will be some beasties for sure great job so far that's what I'm talkn bout lol what type and brand of nutes are u using also what size pot is that dda in??

The Stiltons are on Advanced pH Perfect, as are the two plants to the left in the large tent(photos 1&2). The other two are on Remo Nutrients.

The DDA is in a common office waste basket. It measured out at seven gallons liquid in volume. It's full of a perlite/vermiculite mix, sprinkled with osmo+. Last week it weighed 26 pounds.

With those girls that are on remo nutes are they in perlite? Also if im using sunshine mix #4 and remo nutes do i need to add cal-mag? and adjust the ph or can I get away with out having to adjust the ph?

No, the Remo girls are in DWC. The DDA is the only thing not in a bubble bucket.

:sorry: I am totally ignorant about sunshine mix #4. I can say I do not adjust pH with Remo, but I'm lazy. As far as cal-mag, I only add it when I see a plant with a deficiency.

SweetSue, do you remember when I complained that I had a hard time keep a joint of DDA lit ? To the point of annoyance even... it vexed me. Still does really. So much so that I've been cutting my remaining DDA 50/50 with whatever else is up in rotation. Well fast forward to today, I'm reading Jorge Cervantes' Growers Bible, and right there on page 248 I think I found the answer.

"Excess levels of nitrogen in harvested plants caused the dried marijuana to burn poorly."

DUH ! Putting 2 and 2 together, I get a pretty little purple plant that curls her leaf tips every time I grow her. :adore: As little nutrients as I use, I have yet to grow one that didn't show clawing from too much N. I may very well attempt the next DDA grow with just micro and bloom, ditching the added N from the grow solution.

Anyone else experience this with the DDA ? Comments ? What say the masses ?

Two cents here...

I'm not into those teensy little autos (haha) but in general botanical theory it takes seven generations of carefully-selected crosses to actually fully "stabilize" a strain.

Almost ZERO marijuana seeds of any variety that you buy are an F7 or later...let's be real about this. Who is breeding seven times with careful, large-model group selection and waiting three years or more to put their seeds out there? Very few.

Only a handful of original cannabis varieties, which have underpinned almost all modern genetics, are that stable.

So, a variety of phenotypes, including some occasional shitty ones which express a concentration of negative/recessive traits, are in the mix when you buy seeds unless you have seventh-generation stability. To be fair, many lines are reasonably stable which means fewer than 10% unacceptable phenos but different phenos are part of the game. Period.

Add in ruderalis genes, and you create autos, which is IMHO an even greater twisty balloon of genetics due to the more significant differences between ruderalis and sativa/indica. The popularity of autos (especially certain strains like DDA) makes it even more likely the seeds of earlier, intermediate-stability generations (F3, F4, F5 and F6) will be in the pack you open. A trait like excess nitrogen sensitivity/absorption could easily be one that is inherent in the seed line you purchased.

Bottom line is this is a game of chance. You can predict certain aspects but Mother Nature is dealing the cards. Welcome to the casino!

Peace, Hyena

That very well could be Hyena. Sweet seeds was advertising the DDA as F4 when i got them, and all my DD are S1 from those. :scratchinghead: I don't know. It looks like my osmo DDA is going to make it, maybe it'll be a bit different than the others and burn well.

No time to worry about it now, we're closing in on a harvest soon and I've got to decide what is getting dropped next. It might just be time to break open the Sweet Seeds mix pack for a surprise variety.

If we knew EXACTLY what we would get from each seed, well...what fun would that be? :hmmmm:

The DDAs are light feeders. Most of mine were grown in living soils, so the nitrogen overload never became a concern for me.

Got a recent picture of your hempy girl handy? I'd like to see how she's progressed since the last photo. I frequently look at them and think "She's goin' nowhere!" to turn around and have them shooting over 48". :laughtwo:

Hyena... Thank you so much for making genetics a little clearer for me. Let's stabalize our own chemovars better than the commercial world will. I do like the "Christmas morning" energy of new seeds though. :laughtwo:

Hmmm.... I have some genetics from Llama that have probably been stabilized. I forgot all about them. I'll have to take a look at the seed bank and see what's available.

The difference in the root balls between the nutrient mixes is intriguing. I wouldn't have expected that. Sounds to me like Remo works more efficiently.

Off to my conversation café. Catch you later. I'm all caught up here now Lucas. :ciao: It's crazy how far behind I can get with a couple med cases working.
