I guess I would want to know what they did to get banned in the first place. I visit a few times a week. Some names are familiar to me. Others might appear on a 10 year old topic. Those names are not seen anymore. Could be many reasons for this.

I was going to agree, because I've been on one forum or another for over 30 years (before browsers), and ignoring always worked for me personally, whether there was a function button or not. Pfft, trolls are best ignored.

But the inhouse function stuff is too much and it puts yet another burden on staff. Just quietly warn them, and if they don't catch on ... poof, gone.

Forums can't be democracies. That's equivalent to anarchy. No one wants to be there, except for the ones who aren't entirely sane. Somebody has to be in charge and deal with stuff. Someone has to be The Executive. Sometimes that sucks.

:Namaste:

have any of them contacted the staff expressing interest in coming back, or is this something where the site will be reaching out to them?

I'm for it.

Everyone will be expected to comply with the same guidelines and we won't just open the floodgates without speaking with each member to confirm they will comply with our guidelines moving forward.

If they violate the guidelines again, they can be shown the door again as well.

Yes, all members usually get three strikes before they're out. Unless it's REALLY bad.

If you all approve, amnesty will be given on a case by case basis, some just went too far.

We have multiple reasons for offering the amnesty, I'll name a few that come to mind now and more later.

Elon Musk started it by leading by example and showing us a perspective we had never considered.

We believe in forgiveness and letting bygones be bygones, leaving negative energy in the past.

We believe anyone can learn, change, adapt and evolve, just like ourselves.

For thirty years we've been bringing people together from all over the world, we don't want to separate them.

We’ve been trying to relax our guidelines over time and are presently a lot more tolerant. We lost people early for things that are allowed today. For example, back in the day any mention of using USPS for seeds was a banning offense. The government used to be quite uptight about this and penalties were harsh.

Sometimes a member can passive aggressively troll someone to the point of snapping, then the snapper gets banned. Meanwhile the other member runs off into the corner chuckling victory while playing the victim. We're not social workers, psychologists or parents, we are cannabis activists running a legitimate business and mission to change international laws. So although we've tried our best to do the right thing everywhere we can, it's just isn't always possible, with the budget, tools, resources and experience we have.

The embarrassing truth inspiring a lot of this for me personally, stems from the fact that I recently got diagnosed with OCD, ADHD & Asperger's. This has been extremely eye opening, humbling and life changing for me, evolving my perspectives and bringing to surface numerous revelations that have me reassessing everything.

Looking back, I feel my mental disorders got in the way of handling some of the situations with much less patience than I would have liked and feel just terrible that it got so out of hand. The stress on all of us was immeasurable. I've learned that when someone verbally attacks a person with autism, it can cause a "meltdown" from stress and "sensory overload", and the natural response is to push those people away. Being in a position of power, that was easy for me to do.

I was bullied as a kid, so I guess I developed a protective nature to avoid that happening to our members. Being plagued with broken social skills, made it even more challenging to analyze and resolve some situations properly.

I'm not saying being autistic is an excuse for my behaviour, I'm just saying that autism is what contributed to it. I feel if I was not plagued with this curse/gift, and had thicker skin, I could have handled some of these situations a lot better. The experience has been traumatic for many of us and I'd really like to make amends where possible and clear any stagnant energy from the past. I know some people are incapable of forgiveness and will tell us to get lost, however I also know there are some who miss being with their friends here, as well as members here missing some who flew the coop.

We just want to do the right thing and resolve any situations where we could have done better.

:Namaste:
It takes a big person to admit his mistakes and a wise person who learns from them. I salute you Sir. CL🍀

Both :thanks:

Elon did not allow people back on to give them a second chance to follow the rules! Elon allowed them back on because they were censored! Censorship is bad and only allows users to see what the controller or Govt wants them to see. Anyone who threatens harm or similar should be expected to be removed. I suspect the ones removed here was because they acted badly, not due to censorship I hope. Freedom of speech is the most important issue today. Would you want someone speaking truth about Cannabis Healing to be censored? JM2C

This is mostly for people who got banned for violating our guidelines. I think Rob was saying he got inspired to do this, from what Elon did. Just the act of having a poll for the members for this issue, nothing more.

People got censored on Twitter because they were telling the truth. I care that those accounts are being restored.

I see no benefit in general restoration of suspended accounts on this site. People can always start a new account with a different email address. People who want to join this forum should always be allowed to use an anonymous name.

Just a quick recounting to emphasis my vote, as I know others may hold strong views to oppose.

In another forum (hobby based) many founding members got banned for reasons that warranted one.

I was included.

Some never returned even when offered a second chance. The resources, friendships, information and history all disappeared when they went.

Did I like them all? No. Did I value them as a forum (community) member. Absolutely.

Some personality types just clash. And others want to systematically and continually use a site to make others uncomfortable and instigate conflict and pettiness. However I believe this site has fostered quite enough room for members to integrate, share, and contribute without conflict.

Which is important, because it should be clear what returning members want from the site.

I know my ban (for a year) over my conduct made me reflect, bring new skills back, and upon my return filled me with a sense of belonging. In time my role moved to helping the moderation team with their duties.

It can be truly ugly seeing the worst in behaviour. The flipside is theres room for redemption.

I applaud the move, having been a witness to many facets of forum interactions both in plain sight and behind the scenes my conclusion is often the actual banning leaves far more fall out than the actions that caused it where isolated actions are outside the normal conduct of reasonable people.

We have bad days. We make bad judgements in the heat of the moment.

Though the swift removal of the agents of conflict should be metered out quickly when its clear. Other than those particular people every discretion should be assessed on the character and contribution as a whole.

Theres a lot of grey area thats hard to account for, however we are highly adaptable. If the site is prepared to offer the opportunity Im going with yes.

If banned for simply speaking their mind I see no reason not to. If for breaking the rules of the site then that becomes an issue the site must determine, whether to conform to gov't oversight (which should not exist in America) or simply to save face in the eyes of the public (provide a site where people don't feel hassled).

You guys make the rules as far as I'm concerned, it's your site.

no, you banned them because YOU guys didn't like what they were doing, saying, acting...you wanted to punish them for being individuals, non-conformist.....and now they are celebrated?
yeah, nah...let them make new accounts like i did on another forum....yeah i was banned on another forum and just created a new account
that way i still have that story up on another forum....anybody can ask me what happened and i will answer, and the admin that banned me will look bad.
DONT let them whitewash their actions!....if you were wronged, then dont take back your old account, start a new one with a similar related name.
Dont rub it in the admins faces but ur old account should be there as a reminder
