Wrenn’s Grow: Maui Waui By Nirvana Seeds & Lemon Kush Headband By HSO In DBHBB

Howdy Gang , finally had a little more extra time to install the Fan + Filter and 4000k QBs.

I ran all lights for 1 hour. The 550 being ran at only 50%. So 240watts. Total watts was 600 dimmed. Temps was the test value. They peaked at 84.2f. Higher then I would like but not bad considering all drivers are in the tent. With some fans and the exhaust going I’m hoping to keep max temps at 81. Ideally at 78-79 so I can have the option to turn the 550 up 240 more watts if needed. This was with no fans and all but 1 tent port closed up.

Here’s what the tent looks like with all the lights. Still need to tidy up some cables and order more ratchet hangers from Zon. Then add the 6inch dryer ducting to complete the Fan and filter.

Can’t wait to get the Maui’s in here and flowering. Have a great day Gang, going to soak up a little autumn sun wise it’s shining.
Looking good Wren

Howdy Gang. It’s been a little while for a garden update, here is what is going on.

I was testing peak temps in the new 5x5 with all the new QBs up. First test with no fans or anything was bad. Peaked at 89-90c.

I got a 9inch industrial fan that moves quite a lot of air. Mounted it in the top of the tent so it blows air over the drivers. Also added a small Monkey Clip fan that runs 20w. Moves a decent amount of air for its size and I run it on the slower speed for durability. So $80 in fans and temps peak went down to 83. Not bad.

I was super drunk when I hung the 6inch Exhaust fan and lol it’s in backwards *doh*. I gotta take it down and flip it. Then re test the peak temps. I’m hoping the tent all zipped up stays at max 80-81.

My 3 older Maui’s are a struggle to keep happpy. They have been in a very long veg in the 1.25Gal pots. About week 9-10 now.

The younger Maui is slowly filling the pot with roots and is almost as big now. Minus the main stalk.

Plans are to let the pots dry out. Get the max temps in check in the 5x5 and upcan all 4 of these girls Sunday if they are dry enough into 10 or 15gal pots. I will likely let them veg for 7-10 days and clip lowers off + clones. Then flower them out.

The Lemon Kush girls are doing well. 3 were topped above the 4/5th nodes. One I left natural to see the diff.

They are around 30-35 days from Pop and I think they will be ready for upcan into the 7s in about a week. Will try and give then two more waterings and one more brix before then.

Some pics,

Maui’s getting their brix foliar. Doing quite well other than lower fans yellowing off.

Closer shot of a different Maui. Some leaf burn on the tips. Lower fans that are bigger also show yellowing. Nice tight internodes tho on these girls. Should flower into some big spear shaped buds!

Here is the younger Maui. She hasn’t showed any light green leafs. Staying nice and dark green all the way. The other 3 will have to do the rest of the recovery in the big pots. This girls main stalk is only like a pencil thick. The older 3 are thicker than a standard sharpie marker. Never grew them that thick in a 1gal pot before.

Not that happy with the overall health of the older 3 but hopefully all new growth from here till the end goes nicely.

Another Lemon Kush that was topped. Looking nice and happy. Huge thick broad fans. I’m thinking of some Snake Oil for these girls. They do have OG Original in the genetics.

a little LST for this Lemon Kush going to train them a fair bit in the next week or two so they are nice little bushes ready for up can.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Happy growing Gang :surf:

Nice grow. Make sure to snag a clone or two of the phenotypes that flourish in your soil. Ive found every cook/recharge to be slightly different. Sure, strains that have historically thrived in the kit will probably continue, but finding one on your own and isolating that particular special expression is one of my favorite things.

Thanks Gov :Namaste: just a beginner but learning a lot around here.

I have 6 cuts rooted from 2 of these Maui’s from when I attempted a quad line start to veg. Lol I removed nodes 2/3 and clone those. They are very nice clones half of those.

Before they flip to flower I plan to take a bunch more off all 4. So maybe 5-8 off each for a total of 20-40 clones. I have a problem with space for clones right now. Need a 4x4 for just Moms / Clones. Space is always a issue.

I’m new to cloning and a lot about growing but it was easy. Now it’s a pain to upkeep the 20clones I have in a small 2x4 tent. They are all in 5.5 inch square pots.

With 20-40 more clones coming and more off the Lemon Kushes I will likely have to cull a bunch or give them away.

Would you suggest I just keep a couple clones of each plant and then cull the ones I don’t like ? Seems like I’m just cloning everything as much as I can but I’ll have to kill/toss/giveaway things very soon.

Pheno hunting is fun just hoping I find something nice. These Maui’s are IBL Hawaiian Sativa so they should be fairly similar. I think I will flower them at 11/13 or 11.5/12.5. Could just do 12/12 also. Unsure how much these will differ.

Thanks for stopping by and the advice. Cheers Gov :passitleft: :ganjamon:

Howdy Gang Hope everyone had a nice weekend. It was a busy one for me but I had some free time yesterday for the girls to get a much needed Upcan.

First the 5x5 tent had some heat issues. The 6inch In-line was sucking in air lol so flipped that. Turned off all lights except the 550 dimmed to 240watts. With the new fans installed and no exhaust / scrubber the tent maxed out at 77-79f. 83f with all lights on . Luckily as I turn on more lights I can turn on the exhaust and ambient temps should be dropping by 2-3f in the basement as colder weather comes in this week.

With the 5x5 ready for the Maui’s it was Transplant time. Super dense root balls on these girls. They were confined to these 1.25gal pots for almost 10weeks since Pop

The Maui’s look much more happy with the big pots and bigger tent.:surf:

I also came back later to water them in with a GE+tea. This time I mixed up 5gal RO with 40ml GE and 5ml tea. Split equally between the four. They should hook up and take off over the next few days.

I will LST them to the pots as they blow up and try to tame them. Will show pics of that in the next couple days.

I had them on a 16/8 Veg. Now I’m reducing the light hours slowly. 15.5/8.5 right now. Moving to 15/9 and then working down to 11/13 for flower.

do you guys think I should just flip them to 12/12 or 11/13 now or let them hook up and veg more for a week or two ?

The Lemon Kush’s are doing very well in the 3x3 and now get the PS Dwarf Star all to themselves. They received a TP+Tea and got more Centered under the DS.

LST is in the works for these girls. I was going to Quad Line then but got Busy and forgot to remove nodes 2/3. Sort of a half ass quad line happening but meh it’s all good.

Going to be doing a lot of LST adjustments this week on both Maui and LK. Seems like I will be able to get 2 more drenches into these LK’s before they are ready to upcan to the 7s.

That about wraps this garden update. Have a great day friends. Stay safe and stay medicated all :passitleft::ganjamon:

Hey Ken..glad i seen this. Hope your day is groovin man.
OK, this is just my op. . I would keep the hours at 16/8 for a couple weeks...grow them some before you flip them. U got nice big pots, lottsa soil. After about 2 to 3 weeks vegging in those, switch to 12/12 , and leave them alone until about 1/2 way thru bloom,..then switch to 11/13, for the remainder. This is wat i do every time...cheers eh. :high-five:
Oh...btw, i like wat your doin ...u got it bud...nice lil set up!

When I do a SLOW time change from 16/8 to 11/13 I reduce the time by 1/2 hour a day (I reduce the lights out time)
this takes 10 days for the 5 hour change. I see pistils start very near the 10th day and than start the light spectrum
change ( change reds t5s to blue, and last the MH to HPS) over a few days (total time change 2 weeks))

Anyway doing it that way I START the time CHANGE at UP-POT, the 2 week switch allows time for everything
to hook up.

Just my approach, I am sure there are other ways

Thanks for the insight Brotha Duggs & Zoo :high-five: The Day has been groovy Duggs and hope yours is aswell. Beautiful weather out  thanks for the kind words on my setup I hope it was worth it lol. Balled out on this 5x5. Well minus a AC unit. Took the chance I won’t need one.

I will follow your advice Duggs and Keep them on 16/8 for a week or two. Then move 12/12 then 11/13 after cats. I’m too lazy and clumsy to operate the timer so many times in a week. I’ll likely mess something up touching it that often. Heck u couldn’t even mount the inline fan the correct way  :passitleft: Here someone better take this glue it’s the culprit:ganjamon:

Another area of unknown for me is the extra supplimental lighting off the bars I have. They have Deep Red / Red / Deep Blue and they use some LG Diodes for UV. I may have to pick up another timer to use those. They don’t have the ability to use only blue or red at a single time so it’s either all on or off.

Not sure how I could do a sunrise or sunset schedule. I think they were intended to just be on during flowering stages. They consist of 32 diodes and use 60watts each. Also they put off a fair bit of heat on the bar, much more then I thought as the small 4000k QBs run very cool to the touch.

Got some LST adjustments done on the girls. Here’s how they look.

24 hours after Upcan / Under the QBs. I might be seeing things but I think they already “hooked up”.

Hope everyone has a great evening :green_heart:

Thank you for stopping by.
Cheers friends:passitleft:

Man, I'm so boring it seems. I go from 16/8 to 11/13...wait for it...all in one day. No shit.

Your plants are gonna show you some real love in the next couple days.

Evening Gov, haha well heck if the plants don’t mind it or don’t suffer much for it I’ll be just the same. Only ever done 18/6 and 12/12 so messing with the light gets my OCD going a little.

Ooo real plant love :circle-of-love:...me likeyyy.

Anxious to see these QBs do work! Heck for the amount they cost they better kick ass.

Cheers Gov :passitleft:

Tidy and clean, I dig your setup Wren. On temps, I was in a similar situation a few years ago and had trouble keeping my temps below 82 with rare spikes over 84f. Perpetual tweaking ( lighting changes, exhaust adjustments, rearranging stuff, you get it) allowed me to get a pretty reliable 80f that can still get to 82 at times and down to 74 at night. If temps stay fairly high, you might look into CO2 supplementation.

Now thats a nice looking set-up, I truly want to move to either Syderx or OBs but still resisting
since I still have a life time supply of HID BULBS

Anyway just wanted to say I use the T5 UVA/B bulbs and can say Without Doubt the T5s work great
I'm running the Spydrx Plus. Can't say enough about it.

It is true the recommended height is 6" above the canopy. I spent some time speaking with one of their grow specialists about the height of the light as many of their highlighted customer sites show the lights in a fixed height position. I was told that most commercial grows do this as it would be to time consuming to move the lights once/twice a day in a large grow.

Like other LED lights, plants will grow to the light and then bush out. Though I had some Blue Dream and LSD grow PAST the light!

I've noticed that many of the bigger players are moving LEDs to the bar style like Fluence's Spydr series. Comparable price too.

Wren, your MWs are looking good! It does look like they're ready to explode!

I was surprised by the (second) pic showing the root ball. Given the length of time in the 1 gal pots I would have thought the roots would be more dense. One of the great things about Doc's method is it produces huge root balls which translates into larger plants/higher yield. I can't take credit for the attached pic (can't find my pics of root balls) but this is an example of what a root ball can be following Doc's method. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Gov :cheesygrinsmiley: , still some tidying up to do as this grow has been a rush rush situation. A few runs down I’m hoping to have everything sorted out. Still tweaking away. Yeah CO2 would be nice. Currently I have a few CO2 bags but they don’t work that well. I also don’t have a meter so unsure how much they raise the PPM inside the tent with Exhaust on. Currently the exhaust / scrubber is off but there is a whack of fans on at all times.

I was so close to buying a Spydrx but decided I wanted more control over the distance between the diodes and the canopy. With the Spydrx the entire fixture is at the same fixed height. With multiple QB boards I can adjust them offset if the plants get a little away from me during stretch. For me this is ideal because I’m a very lazy plant trainer and don’t use a Scrog net so I don’t usually have a canopy that is truly super even.

also with the QBs I got I can remove certain board and have multiple uses for them in smaller Veg spaces. Or move them from tent to tent to supplement.

If I was a commercial grower or bigger home grower I would likely have gotten some Spydrx units. They are nice tho 100%.

yeah the pic sucked because it wasn’t very bright. also the roots were like brown so they blend into the soil colour. They were way past fresh white lol.

Damn I wish my roots were looking like that pic! I have grown in the kit before and with a 35 day veg my roots were really white before just not that prevalent at the sides of the pots. I go by how solid the entire thing feels when I slip the pot out. These were quite dense and held every piece of the Promix together. Also even when bone dry the pots were fairly heavy just off Rootball weight.

would be nice to see thatcrazy nice white after 2-3 month veg but in a 1 Gal pot idk if I’m capable of such a goal. The pics are mis leading though. The football was very dense it’s just the roots on the pots wall we’re not white and looked more like just dirt. Was that pic a Kit plant ?

Oh might aswell show the Maui’s off again. Another day under the QBs. More LST adjustments. They are noticeably healthier and bigger every day.

However, here is a couple pictures of Doc's root balls.Scroll down below the plant shots.
