Magnus8's Coco Coir Big Bud & Pineapple Express, First Grow Ever! Grow Journal

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Hi Magnus.

He didn't know he had one as he was out all day but I think he was just checking it now.

HashGirl, Did Felonious get my Private Message from today? Had some ideas for him in there regarding the problem you are having with your grow right now.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

GREAT NEWS!!!

Just want to tell you all, or at least those interested, that as of about 2:00 p.m. today I am now the proud purveyor of a legal Canadian MMJ license.

Yes, finally, after all the hassles and crap that I've gone through I went to a new doctor today and had it within 45 minutes of walking through the door.

Now comes the tough part. Affording it. At even $6.75/gram I'm going to have an impossible time keeping up with my 4 gram/day prescription. That works out to over $800/month for my medication when I make less than $1600/month total.

So I'll grow.

Grow my demented little girls, grow like the weeds I know you are, little demented girls. Or as the wife-bot calls them, my daemons.

Grow my little daemons, grow!

Fuck, just grow damnit!

Actually, they're really taking off now that this Nitrogen toxicity seems to be finished with. They really are.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow. There's already so much on my plate tomorrow, but I promise I'll try. Gotta get back to taking pics more regularly, I know. What's a grow journal without pics of my babies growing, eh?

Have a grand night, all.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Hello Everyone!

Back with another update. Things are going much, much better. Thanks and huge kudos to Scrogdawg and Kush. I don't know where I'd be without the two of you. And everyone else, too. I appreciate the help and advice and kind words you all give so very much. I hope you all know that. It's just that these two brought me through my Nitrogen toxicity problem so beautifully that I'm so grateful. As you'll soon see, my plants are doing much better after doing my 2 day flush correctly and adding the proper amount of nutrients, a very much reduced amount. Thanks again, Scrogdawg. I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay you. But I probably don't have to. Just know that if I could, I would...

So onto the pics!

So here's the side pic of the whole setup. You can see straight ahead the table that my wife-bot built for me (the first woodworking she's ever done. i think she did a fine job, don't you?). On top of the table are trays for the flood and drain system that my wife-bot ALSO built for me (she's quite handy to have around the house, don't you think?). Inside the trays are the cloth bags with my plants, and above the plants is stretched the scrog we purchased from my favourite grow store in Edmonton. Not yet sure how well this stretchy scrog is going to work out, but we'll see, won't we? We had to run a broom handle looped through the scrog to straighten it out somewhat and to pull it all forward toward the front of the tent. Not sure if you can see it in the pics, but it's blue and should be visible running along the front of the scrog system. Underneath the table to the right is the dark blue tote (not sure what colour it is under the LEDs) where my new, weaker nute solutions are housed when they're not flooding the trays. All in all, it looks quite good, no? If somewhat jerry-rigged! hahahaha. But anyways, enuf talk, here's the pic:

DSC_92751.JPG

Here's the same stuff from a little bit of a higher angle. You can see the solutions in the flood tray while the flood and drain system is working like a freakin' charm. My wife-bot... I love her so...

DSC_92761.JPG

Here's the same view from even a little higher now. You can see the plants in this one, right? I think it's the only one that shows how well the plants are doing right now with all the changes in their environment, their feeding, everything. They ARE doing so much better (kudos again to Scrogdawg and Kush!):

DSC_92771.JPG

I show you these next two pics to show the extent of the damage that my babies suffered at the hands of the killer Nitrogen! Okay, just kidding. But these two pics are to show the damage to them from the Nitrogen overdose. Interestingly enough, my two strongest plants, my PE, got the worst of the damage from the Nitrogen:

DSC_9278.JPG
DSC_92791.JPG

And just as interesting, my damaged little girl, my smallest BB, was damaged hardly at all:

DSC_92801.JPG

I took this one to show off the connection between the two trays that my love came up with. The guy at the store told us that apparently most people don't think of connecting two trays, but rather set up another complete system when they have a second tray to feed. My love came up with this brilliant idea to connect the two trays and also to put a Y intersection on the feed line to send the nutrients to both trays, knowing that they would both drain through this feed line through the feed hose. Not sure if I explained that fully, but it is all I"m gonna try to do tonight. Ask questions, if you want, and I'll answer them np.

DSC_92811.JPG

These next two are booooring. They just show the controller for my solution/water bubbler and my timer for my lights. Don't know why I took them. Just felt like I hadn't sent up many pics lately, I suppose, and wanted to send some up.:

DSC_92821.JPG
DSC_92831.JPG

Here's how we connect the scrog to the tent pole: with bungee cords!:

DSC_92841.JPG

This fan setup that my wife-bot put together helps me create all kinds of angles for my fan. Just thought I'd show it, too, because it allows for so much movement:

DSC_92851.JPG

And this wonderful heater helps keep the tent a nice, balmy 80 degrees Fahrenheit during both the day and the night. Love it:

And so we've come to the end of our show and tell session! I hope you're interested enough to spend some time here with these pics and that they give you some ideas of your own...

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Looks good Magnus. Your wife did her part well. I'm glad your plants are coming around. I don't think your going to have any trouble filling that scrog with 4 plants. One thing, you should pick your net up a good 6-8 inches and let them grow to it. Your going to want to leave yourself room to work underneath it and allow room for the horizontal growth under it.

Thanks for the advice, Scrogdawg. Never worked with a scrog before and the instructions I've been following said to let the plants grow between 5 - 8 inches in height and then install the scrog. But what you're saying makes more sense. I'll adjust tomorrow. Way to friggin' tired tonight. Besides, they've already been fed and I don't want to disturb them. I try to disturb them as little as possible and try to do anything that needs done in there around their feeding time.

Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it. I"m going to have to pick up a ppm meter from Amazon. They were out at my store the other day. So it'll take a bit before it gets here. I'll be sure to let you know when it does get here.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Magnus your wife is freakin awesome. for someone who's never done a construction of this sort, she did great! connecting the 2 trays was definitely much needed, makes your whole system flow as one single unit now which is perfect.

Scrog dawg is right. You will want that net a good 8 more inches up, this way you can maneuver your branches and eventually lollipop all the underbrush to bring all focus to the tops. You don't want them tangled in there just yet.

Other then that your plants look awesome, glad we could help you out!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

That's a nice setup! Glad to your plants are coming around, I have been following along now and then but have been swamped with work and keeping up with the snowblowing around here the last couple of weeks so haven't had time to comment on much. You're last post has me wondering about the stretchy scrog too, I made mine and strung it as tight as I could, with 2x2 squares, it actually cut into my fingers with the string by the time I was done. In my very limited experience it seems a stretchy one would be kind of pointless but then again I've never tried one, and people do seem to have success on here using them, I've seen a few in pics .... I installed my net about week before the flip and have ended up with colas probably 14 inches above the screen. My net is 6 inches above the coco surface. If the screen had stretched up say, 3 inches, I would be a bit more than maxed out height wise. I know your tent is taller than mine but can't recall the size, mine is 5 feet tall. I think I had 30 inches from screen to max light height. So, beware the ceiling!
I really need to elevate my whole tent for my next grow, like you my back does not enjoy bending weird ways which a grow tent sitting on the floor incurs a lot of!
Congrats on getting your license btw, that's great news! Hope your weekend is going super, and all your ladies as well!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Everything still ginnin in the garden Magnus?

Hi Scrogdawg,

Yes, everything's still growing strong. My babies are doing wonderfully. I have raised the level of the scrog, but would like your opinion as to whether this is now a good height. I'll try to get pics out either later today or tomorrow, depends on time for me right now.

How are things down in your neck of the woods/garden? If time would ever permit, I'd get caught up on all I'd like to do, like check out your journal again. Been a while since I was there.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Good morning, Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well on this grey, dismal day. At least it's grey and dismal in Central East Alberta.

ScrogDawg, I've got a question for you. How did you figure out the recipe for the nutes that I'm using? Was it something I should get from the company? Or is there a site with a calculator that works it out? Or just a site with the info pasted on it?

The reason I'm wondering is so that I can know how much to give my babies when it comes time to move into Flowering stage and beyond. I don't want to have to bother you each time to know. Besides, I'll be starting new seeds starting third week of flower and I'll need to know what to give them and, again, don't want to bother you with all my questions. You said earlier that you would "work out" a recipe for my babies, and you did great with that, but that makes me think that this is something that you actually performed an action on. I just don't want to bother people when they've already got busy lives, as I'm sure you do, too. So if you could tell me how to "work out" these recipes for nutes on my own, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Go to the link below and save it as ".pdf" to your computer, print it if possible. Thats your starting point. You'll want to mix to 30% of what the chart says shooting for 400 ppm.

If I can see some updated pictures we could determine at what stage your at to get started. If you do that I'll walk you through your first batch and you should be good to go after that. I've already made the mistakes with the Flora Series, no point in you making them too. Did you get your ppm meter yet, its crucial to have it when you mix nutrients?

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

H'lo all,

It's quite late at night so I'm going to keep this short. Got pics for you! The light in the tent turned off from its timer in the middle of taking the pics, hence the difference in their lighting. Hope you can still see what's happening there. The last pic is a pic of the setup so that you can advise me whether the scrog is at a good height or not. A couple of the plants have reached just above the level of the scrog, so I've got to know fairly soon whether I've got the scrog in a good place. So, your advice is welcomed, as always.

So these first two pics are of my PE plant which has always done well.

This next pic is of my other PE and is one of the ones who has reached the edge of the scrog.

This is now my BB, the one who never got damaged. It has also reached the edge of the scrog and beyond. Had to tuck it back under tonight, which was a good feeling to be truthful.

And this is my damaged little girl who is still behind the others, but making a desperate bid to catch up, as you can see from the pics.

And this is my setup, showing the distance between the plants and the scrog.

Just caught myself up. Thing are looking good, thanks for sharing

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Hey Magnus, looking good. I'd raise the scrog 2 or 3 inches higher than the level you have now. Looks like your around day 56 or 57 from germination, probably about day 40 of veg, so it pits you in Late growth although the plants have been set back some with previous problems, so lets call it day 35"ish" of veg right now. I looked back at the mix I gave you earlier and compared it to the General Hydroponics chart, looks like your feeding at about 40% of the late growth column. The plants look healthy so I'd say stay with the same recipe through the rest of veg. The idea is not to keep increasing ppm's through growth but to find they're happy spot and stay there. Looks to me like you've found it. As per the General Hydroponics feed chart we'll tune up the nutes when you go to flower in about 25 days from now. In the meantime, raise the scrog a little, keep feeding as you are, and fill the screen to about 70%. Weaving the screen should about drive you nuts...lol, should I move it here, should I move it there, decisions, decisions, decisions. Have some fun and keep the pictures coming.

How's the book coming? Can you give us a preview to the storyline?

Thanks, ScrogDawg, I'll keep doing as you advise. Thanks again. They seem to be doing really well, don't they. In truth they are in the middle of their seventh week of veg, but I do understand about calling them day 35ish for now. 25 days to flower you figure? Sound good to me. I'm going to start more seeds third week of flower just to keep things hopping around here. You know I'll need your help through that, too, to figure out what nutes to feed the seedlings and what week to begin to feed them in. I'm hoping you'll still be around then, but if I'm still in flower, I'm sure you will.

The books coming along well. I thought I had posted what the book was about already but I guess not. Sure, here goes.

The novel begins its first chapter with 2 children playing in a park. The youngest one, Max, is abducted while his older brother, Gary. is busy playing on the monkey bars. Fast forward 17 years later, and Gary is working in a homeless shelter as a social worker trying to save the world, when a chance meeting brings the two brothers' lives in touch with another. While the brothers are getting reacquainted, testing each other out, the two brothers and Gary's new girlfriend must outwit and outsmart the diabolical Quinn, who seeks to re-abduct Max for his own nefarious purposes no matter who he finds as an abstacle in his way. Book I of III. It is titled Finding Max and the second book is tentatively titled Loving Max and the third is Killing Max. The scheduled release date is 14 Nov 17, just before Black Friday and just in time for Christmas Holliday shopping.

Does it sound even remotely interesting to you? I'd class it as a Literary Thriller if I had to pick a genre that the book exists within.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

The plants are definitely looking like their normal selves again, I do agree with scrogdawg the scrog net should still come up a few inches. you will need to extend veg time to allow for those branches to start creating that even canopy for you. This is what happens when growing from seed unfortunately, comparing to clones the growth isn't as fast initially. But again, once they really start branching out the growth speed will increase.
