Mello's Mystery Seed Party Cups Grow - 2nd Grow

I thought that too at first, I didnt really have anyone i was following on here with a similar setup so it was basically utube videos on many different ways people built their systems etc for me, Net pot lids are very hard to get here in au and my only option was to make my own or get one imported from the US (i aint paying $70au for one lid shipped!). Very simple idea with a small layout cost, 1 bucket, either netpot lid or make your own, air pump, air stone and some tubing. keep the nutrient solution about an inch away from the base of the netpot and adjust your PH's. Tbh i do all my maintenance to the system and girls in about 2 mins each day, the rest of the time is sitting in there with them and taking photos etc lmao. the only time consuming thing is changing out the reservoirs which takes me about 2 hours once a week (however i am in no rush and like to get my PH stable so do it drop by drop). When changing my setup from soil to DWC about the only real difference i needed to take into account is the height of the tent, Bucket itself is almost 17" tall. But at the end of the day dont just switch completely, always great to have different grows on the go to see what works best for you, I still have so many things here to try in my own tests, i have a 3x3 table i want to try out, 5 Dutch Pot system and all of that is before i even think about trying other mediums lol, soil is my usual choice outdoors.

You change the rez every week? I've seen videos of growers saying change it every two weeks. I'm mentioning this because I want you to spend more time taking pic :) !

Im with you there haha, i started out with a 5 cfl setup then moved onto LED, back to a 130w CFL followed by a 400w HPS setup lmfao
So far im happy with my HPS over all the others and i find with the air cooled hood it actually runs cooler than my LED's, about the only thing i would change is the ballast to digital, that way if needed i could just upgrade the bulb to a higher wattage.

Funny thing, I started with a 5cfl setup, then gradually added bulbs. Then I went HPS. I like cfl's for early veg and HPS for late veg and obviously flower. It's funny how you can be convinced to grow bigger and stronger plants here at 420Mag.

I have only used seed indoors so far, i took clones from my last girl but they went straight outdoors and are still out there in flower mode lmao (have been trying to reveg for months now, only one of the three has new growth only just showing now), Tbh its a topic we could go on about all day and without having a massive setup to test all variables side by side it will always be down to user preference, I do however like your idea of a few days 24h followed by a 18/6, would be something worth testing but would also have to grow the same strain in the same conditions in a different tent under a diff light schedule to see the actual benefits of each method.

I took a clone off of Baby Greens the day you responded to me (3 days ago). 24 hour light schedule and today was the I finally noticed her perk up. I'll keep updating her so be sure to tune in.

There are a lot of great DWC growers here on 420mag, i personally read just about everything that pops up on site so i couldnt point you to one in particular sorry dude. I am always around if you have any questions on it, I am in no way a pro but have a pretty good grasp on the concept.

I'll definitely pick your brain when I'm ready. Thanks!! :passitleft:

All good dude, i found a few dropped ones on the floor i didnt tell anyone about

Yeah Dank was trying to get ET to follow him home, instead he got you! :passitleft:

Kinda busy but wanted to touch on daylight.

I want to test longer days. 24-36hrs ON, followed by 6hrs OFF for veg, then 18-24 ON, 12-14OFF flower..

Its somewhat important not to change the time often. Thats her daylight, she doesnt want to alter her working schedule daily. Ive heard it can stress her into growing balls.

Dont quote me..

Well, a solution to the constant change would be to apply it on different grows, or get a few growers to test the different schedules.

Man she is bushy hehe, thought i was watching a 70's porn

Any plans for defoliation in the future? Looking really good though mate :goodjob:

I cant comment on coco, never grown with it so i will leave that for the experts :D

I defoliated a bit on some/most of the undergrowth. The next morning I could tell that she was happy with the space and air upskirting her.

She is a definite candidate for some defol

Looking nice and healthy Mello

Thanks! Glad you can come through and don't forget to drop m&m's on the floor for Feral.

Baby greens is gonna grow you a proper bush. Well done my friend :passitleft:

Thanks Mr.A!!! :passitleft: I wish I could say she was growing US a proper bush! Or maybe growing a proper Bush* in the U.S buahahahaha! :passitleft:

Update today, sorry again, last week of this term and I got 3 finals coming up this week. I've been studying. I miss the site so I had to jump in and at least respond to all my peeps!

I know, eh? It's almost like we're all enabling each other, or something ... :) No, it's INSPIRATION, damn it!

There are no M and Ms left and I am sad.

Wishing you all the best during this busy week, Mello!

You change the rez every week? I've seen videos of growers saying change it every two weeks. I'm mentioning this because I want you to spend more time taking pic :) !

Yeah I could get away without changing the res each week but i am only adding water throughout the week and right now the water im adding each week is equaling the res size, by rights i could probably get away without changing the res over for quite a few weeks by adding small amounts of nutrients but its something im used to for this grow at least hehe, its always changing. To begin with i had to change the nutrients out every week as they were transplanted from soil and had major issues with stunted growth to get over. Since about 3 weeks after the transplant the reservoirs have been very clean.
I love taking pics of the girls out of the HPS light haha only problem is when i change the res out its day for me but night for the girls, dont need the unwanted light, i will start taking some more shots though of an evening with mood lighting

Baby Greens Day 33

Baby Greens is about 8 inches in height and a staggering 2 ft wide (does that mean the equivalent would be 3 ft tall?). I'm still seeing some yellow in the top most growth, hopefully next feed will help that, should I up the grow nutes a bit? I'm thinking of flowering sooner, because I don't want to end up with a giant, I can't up the power just yet if I needed to, and since rootie and new life seem to be rootbound, I'm thinking its time to flip. Maybe day 35, what do you guys think? Does the bondage have to be removed before switching to flower? Any tips for along the way to flower? Any guesses on yield? Thanks for all the love and support guys, you truly are an awesome bunch and I wish someday we could grow side by side. :passitleft: Oh yeah, rootie and new life will get separate updates later on. :Namaste:

Mello holy shit man things have gotten crazy in the garden!! Do you plant to veg longer? If you topped every top on that bush it would be some next level shit man:Namaste:

I think more veg time equals more yield; to an extent. 400 Watts would flower out nice regardless, i would say its less benefical, do what you gotta do, want to do and have to do with any space limitations you may have. Be prepared for the the stretch to consume oyur grow space:goodjob:

Hey Mello. If you are noticing that the tops are a bit yellow, then definitely up the gro nutes. I like to push the nutes until I see afew burnt tips. I'm not suggesting you do the same, just telling you so that you know it's safe to push them a little.

Let her veg out until day 40 maybe. I flipped on day 35 I think, but should have waited a little longer. So with my next grow I will aim to flip at 40 days.

She looking good though. Top job

heya mel,, cheers to ya

that is a very beautiful deep rich green you have there in those plants,, wow

smurf guy is cute too,, hard at er,, great place to work too,, smurfy and my little guy,, dutty panty,,

P1160162.JPG

could be good friends,, obvious similar tastes,, ha,,:cheer:

two or four of my 2bits worth, if i might,,:Namaste:

i was wondering when you mentioned about the paleness of the new growth,, did this require extra fert?? not sure iffin that was yer exact point,, but ,, i think a colour variation between new and older growth is perfectly natural,, and not an issue to be solved by adding more nutes,,

second point,, and i refuse to step on any toes,, but will give an opinion,, adding nutes till one sees a touch of tip burn is an absolute recipe for disaster,, the visible affects of the nutes are so delayed, by a week or ten days,, the damage done is irreversible,,, a plant will grow far better with not enough nutes than too much,, and with too much,,the poor thing may never recover,,

but you hardly need my 2bits,, not with colour like that,, cheers mel

p.s.,, again,, just me, mr know nothing,, i have read that plants mature at two months of age,, ready now for flowering,, not that they wont flower if put to flower earlier,, and,, that's a good thing because i usually put my plants to flower at about six weeks old,, from planting or from day of cloning,, mostly because they are the size i want them at six weeks,, some even five weeks,,

Its not that you cant, you can start and finish on 12/12. Who wants to eat an apple off the apple tree thats only been growing for 1 season? ...it (might) grow some apples, but sample an apple from the mature tree and compare..

And i agree with the over nute feeding.. Tho, i do recommend destroying a plant, or attempting to. Its hard to know how much is too much without going there.

Update

Good morning everyone! I wanted to start the day with a much needed update since most of my fires have been put out. I have 4 finals, 3 of which I have finished. I'm glad to say that 2 out of the 3, I was informed that I passed them. I was a bit worried because they were cumulative and it was a ton, and I mean a ton of info I had to study. I will find out tomorrow if I passed the third and I have the last final of this term tomorrow night (yeah I know I hated taking a night class too). Human Services II passed! Computer Literacy passed! Personality Psyche results are tomorrow and Intro to Sociology final is tomorrow. I'm majoring in psychology and I had to take a required sociology class to be able to register for social psychology next term. I am also registering for Human Services III (Intro to helping relationships) and the best part, I get to intern!!!! Finally, some hands on work. I am very excited and can't wait. Ok, so, my school rant is over. I just wanted to tell everyone that even though I am working hard in life, you guys here at 420Mag are still in my thoughts and  :Namaste: :passitleft:

Ok, now, to the juicy stuff!

Baby Greens Day 36

I have been watching her grow pretty closely (my study sessions are best in the garden ). As I have mentioned before, I noticed a bit of yellowing in the newer growth. Most people will say that it is normal. I disagree, sorry guys. Deficiencies are common but not normal. I didn't however, up the nutes. What I decided to do instead was to extend the wet period with a similarly dosed feed (could of been a little less). She picked up considerably. At this point, I feel that growth has been slower (or maybe I look at her too much ). She filled out the pot very nicely and is about 11 in from the soil to the highest top (which is in the center). I decided to un-bondage her for a while but right before the flip (which is coming up in a few days) I am going to re-train her to control the flower stretch, together with a few other techniques (still researching). I lollipopped sparingly over time. Aside from that, just a few questions.... :passitleft: So take that blunt and help me figure this out.

1. Should I keep vegging? I know, I know. I nag about this a lot. My fear is cultivating another male and wasting a 40 day veg period. Ouch!

2. I've noticed that the center most top is about 2 in higher than the rest. I was thinking of topping it, or fim, in order to slow it down while the rest catch up, but, with the flower switch coming up I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. What do my mentors think?

3. Was the whole un-bondage and re-bondage before the flip ok? I just wanted to give her a break and let her stretch up some before I start controlling the flower stretch.

4. She is uber mega bushy! What do I do? I've been defoliating underneath and leaf tucking above but she covers herself up again within an hour or two.

Rootie Day 31

Well, Rootie The Runt has slowed down again. I blame my attempt to super crop and the lack of space. I watered with plain water because I started to notice some necrotic leaves. A burn here and there. I chalked it up to dosing twice (I tried the same thing as Baby Greens in order to get rid of some yellowing). Overall she looks good. Rootbound but good. Another reason why I want to flip the room to flower. I pruned some older yellow leaves which made room for the light to penetrate the inner nodes and those are coming in nicely. For some reason, she reminds me of my first grow. Kinda Male-ish. Very rugged and stubborn. Don't mind my medicated ramblings. More questions!! Yaaay! :)

1. Is she rootbound?

2. Since last feed was plain water, do I nute her this time?

3. I find it difficult to pay attention to the watering in these small pots, what do you guys suggest I do?

4. Was pruning a bit a good idea or too much stress for an already stressed lady?

New Life Day 26

Well, I somehow forgot to make the drainage holes. I didn't realize it until after the pot weighed a bit more than usual. She is definitely over watered. I'm just letting her go dry for a while. A bit of pruning of the older yellow leaves. Aside from that nothing really to say. I screwed up but she'll be alright. Again, more questions!! Hoorah!

Just 1....

1. WILL she be ok?

Day_276.jpg

Thanks for stopping by guys and gals!!!! :circle-of-love::Namaste::high-five::passitleft:

Last question first.. Shell be just fine!

Congrats with all the school stuff, it isnt easy balancing life, schook, work, hobbies,:bravo:....and u have a wifey too?

1. Should I keep vegging? I know, I know. I nag about this a lot. My fear is cultivating another male and wasting a 40 day veg period. Ouch! MHO, yes!

2. I've noticed that the center most top is about 2 in higher than the rest. I was thinking of topping it, or fim, in order to slow it down while the rest catch up, but, with the flower switch coming up I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. What do my mentors think?2inches isnt hhorrible, and easily manageable..ish. If you cant wait for the flip, then pull/tie those 2 down so their even with the others. ...id probably top them and flip in 7-14days.

3. Was the whole un-bondage and re-bondage before the flip ok? I just wanted to give her a break and let her stretch up some before I start controlling the flower stretch. No idea really, probably wont matter much and just be a personal preference.

4. She is uber mega bushy! What do I do? I've been defoliating underneath and leaf tucking above but she covers herself up again within an hour or two. Hair cut! Trim more of those fans off, from higher up her shaft/s.

1. Is she rootbound?
No idea! Could be, could just be having a rough life. Dump her out (nicely) have a look-see and go from there. I dont think thatd cause tooo much stress, other more experienced advise on this, anyone?

2. Since last feed was plain water, do I nute her this time? Not my deparment. Merry new years!

3. I find it difficult to pay attention to the watering in these small pots, what do you guys suggest I do? forgive me, i dont remember the pot size:lot-o-toke: either uppot, and or look into swicking.

4. Was pruning a bit a good idea or too much stress for an already stressed lady? Couldnt say.. Id fear it was added stress, but how much... shell be fine:)

Great post dank,, :Namaste:

The high branch,, i would break/scrop it,, if comfy with that,, I have never noticed any delays because of scropping,,i do it every plant,,

I am changing my opinion slightly re, defoliating,, i now think leave as much on as possible till put to flower,, not sure why, just something I am trying,,

Overwatering is a plant killer,, let dry out completely,, bone dry,, plant will so thank you,, and no nutes on dry roots,, soak plain water first, then nutes,, gently, imo

Cheers for now
