Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

There is some leaway with this, it seems as I have several glowing lights like that in my flower room and haven't had hermi issues due to them. They are much more sensitive inside, as the plants don't get far red spectrum light like they would outside at sunset. It puts them into sleep mode much quicker than what we use to grow inside.

Rado, much happening in your place and I'm proud to say I enjoy it very much. Thank you for sharing the ways you do it! Good luck with your garden! :goodjob:

I think it also depends on the intensity and temperature drop. Note that Moon emits cold light (colder than Moonshade) and not behaving like a reflected daylight in my book. Well I'm just a simple boy who watches people trying stuff and asking questions. The moonlight is like a 1 /1000th of the Sun's light intensity. I bet some more significant light can cause problems. And yes, the far red spectrum can be utilized as a go to sleep light. You can run like 3W per square feet of far red spectrum 10-15 minutes after lights off to put them faster to sleep. I've heard it shaves few days of flower time. I'll be utilizing it in my light's project soon. Great day for you all! :Namaste:

Last night I did my first Cat Drench: 5ml of DocBud Cationic Root Drench in about 1 gallon of water.

22 days after the light switch, I think I waited a little too long after AK47 set buds.

The easily visible buds looked like this (under 'golden' HPS light :) )

While the top buds looked like this

Nice, there will be big fat foxtailing (my guess) cola there in no time! Good work! :goodjob:  :Namaste:

Hey thanks!

I was about to say, "My AK47 doesn't foxtail !" but then I looked back a year and saw the sister seed foxtailed.

I started out not liking foxtail buds because the quality was lower. Maybe I was harvesting too early.
Now, I'm OK with foxtail buds, but I still don't enjoy trimming them.

My prior AK47 grows have had 'dispensary' sized nugs. I wouldn't mind a few fat nugs :)

I had foxtails on my first grow and the nugs were easy to dry and pleasant to work with. I dried her in one piece and then just plopped the fan leaves when they were drier :) My Herer is foxtailing right now I love it!

My last AK was some nice smoke...the reveg clone of her I subsequently flowered (Crosseyed Mary) was some 'teeth grinding, jittery, cant sit still, am I dying, wtf was that' smoke. I gave it to a friend who said it was awesome o_O

I just finished reading your thread 1/2 hour ago - I caught that :)

My prior grow experience (with AK47 and others) doesn't tell me much about what to expect. The first grow was with organic nutes. Subsequent grows were with gradually depleted soil, high PH water and really bad vegging performance. In terms of size and quality, I can't predict how these will turn out.

About all I can do is compare the strengths of the seeds. AK47 had more kick, White Widow was flavorful and trippy, Hawaiian Skunk was floaty and tasty, Borderliner and the Tangerine cross had the best combined effects - Hard hitting, floaty, tasty and rarely out of control. Amherst Sour Diesel, Bubba's Gift, and the Ace seeds are new seeds to me.

For some reson I can't explain, I've never actually purchased a high CBD strain - I guess I am waiting for the 50/50 mixes by CBD crew and others to gain a reputation and following like exist for AC/DC, Harlequin and Charlotte's Web.

I think CBD Crew is producing good phenos. I have the Shark Shock CBD and she rocks, ready to be harvested:

Im looking forward to another go with the Harlequin. I have a couple of clones just sort of chillin' in the veg tent. Even after being in the jar for this long, it still...odd. I cant say if I like it or not...odd. The Shark Shock CBD has always pleased me.

You sat through my whole journal?? O.O Thanks man :)

I'm wondering what CBD strains are like recreationally for you. Or do you guys just grow it for medicinal purposes like me?

I did a test vape of one of my early Hash Bombs (5% CBD 15% THC per breeder but I doubt mine was that high). Just 1/3 gr, same as I always use for testing, which is usually enough for me to check potency of THC strains. I couldn't tell if the HB was just weak or if CBD was moderating it. I did feel tingly in my limbs but I get that every now and then from the oil I take. I suppose I could just try a larger dose of the HB I just harvested, but I'd like to hear what others think of their CBD strains.

Mouser, is it the flavor or the buzz that you're not sure you enjoy about harlequin?

That foam insulation is pretty delicate stuff to carry on top of a vehicle. Last time I had to sandwich it under plastic so it didn't break apart.

Hey Rad.. I'm catching up on your journal and saw that pic of the foam and the trays there... what are the black trays and if you don't mine letting me know where you got them. I'm looking for large trays like that for under my plants .. for me it's for a sorta flood tray, not for watering but in case run away autopot! That and I want to increase my foot print..
TIA

I'll second that question, Rado. Right now I'm using a old stainless steel darkroom sink I had lying around, but it is a bit bulky.:Namaste:

Ok all caught up brother.... Rad, I've been watching your work for a pretty long time now. Several years .. maybe since you've been here in 420mag really.

i gotta say.. this grow is the best effort you put forth so far. You're doing EXTREMELY well. All the girls are as healthy or healthier than I've even seen in your garden.. and yer just getting going! Good on ya buddy keep up the hard work :thumb:

Doc Buds kit and you are getting along great.. sometimes a little structure helps .. I know it helps me but I pretty much march to a different drummer than most so I'm easily distracted and want to "experiment" or just try something new and different. I think gardening helps me focus tho and brings me much love and pleasure. I see that in your work here... the love and pleasure part. That's awesome.

I'm loving the health and vigor of your plants and wish you many green and bountiful harvests.

PS: I don't have patience for those little autos.. I keep trying to run them but for me they never get large enough. I just chopped 4 and I'll be lucky if I get an ounce dried.. Good on you for hanging in there ... that said I just spent 2 hundy on some Dark Devil seeds AGAIN.. they are usually larger tho.

Are you getting your outdoor garden seeds planted yet?? We've been working on Cardoon seedlings for a week or 2 and transplanted them into big girl pots. It's Feb 17th and we have 4 days with temps in the high 50s and 60s .. that's crazy. Should be like 28F and snow.
tulips already punching out ... snow drops flowering..

I was all poised to buy Shark Shock CBD last spring, but I don't have a paypal account that the seller wanted. So the next afternoon my wife was ready to order with her paypal, and they were out of stock. Shortly after, we decided to move which meant shut down our grow for several months,

Your Shark Shock CBD looks tasty... And yes I think CBD crew is doing great things.. Your plant is proof. :)

When I was ready to start a grow, my wife really wanted to try a pure Sativa - I chose Lily from Ace Seeds .

I still want to get her a CBD strain - Shark Shock CBD is still at the top of my list. I just haven't pulled the trigger on new seeds.

1-2 pages a day. It took a couple of weeks. If I read any faster, I loose continuity. I still miss stuff by reading speedier than real time, but it's the best compromise.

My impression of the pure CBD strains is that they are good for generalized healing, they do get in the way of a THC high, and they need to be blended with THC for optimum medical treatment of most conditions.

From what I understand THC binds to CB1 receptors and CBD binds preferably to CB2 receptors, but also CB1 receptors. At high enough levels, the CBD binds to the CB1 receptors, including the CB1 receptors in the liver. When the receptors are 'full' the liver doesn't do the conversion of Delta9-THC to 11-hydroyl-THC. Since 11-hydroxyl-THC gets you about 10 times as high as unconverted THC, CBD interferes with the liver based high. It takes more THC to get high. There is stuff with mangos and lecithin that also affect first pass liver metabolism and how you can also avoid getting high.

So from what I understand about the biology, CBD interferes with getting high :)

I really enjoy this CBD discussion.

My wife has been using standard hybrid marijuana strains for treatment of Fibromyalgia and menopausal symptoms for about 3 years. We were able to have a state legal grow under the auspices of her Medical Marijuana certification. It was a learning experience for her doctors as she was one of the earliest Medical Marijuana patients in Massachusetts.

When she broke 3 ankle bones in a fall over a year ago, she was unable to have surgery due to blood clots and lung damage. Lots of Marijuana helped with the healing, and allowed her to use about 10% of the opiods normal for a surgical recovery. There were lots of discussions with nurses and orthopaedic specialists about the role of Medical Marijuana in her recovery. Medical Marijuana was right there in treatment records. It kind of felt like my wife was a Johnny Appleseed of Medical Marijuana knowledge for the hospitals. :)

Given my wife's current medical state, I'd like to try mixed THC and CBD oil in a topical cream for skin massage over painful spots.

I'll second that question, Rado. Right now I'm using a old stainless steel darkroom sink I had lying around, but it is a bit bulky.:Namaste:

That is an official 4'x8'x10" Flood Table. It looks like a stack because it has graduated/stepped sides at the 60 gallons, 80 gallons, and 100 gallons. I think it was a Botanicare. I used it for about 2 years as the floor for my 4x8' flower room. I walked all over it (always barefoot) and it stayed water tight. In look at feel it is a lot like the bed liner on a pickup truck, though not quite as tough.

I started out using it as a tray for overflow from top watering. Later on I used it for SWICK bottom watering (about 40 gallons of plain water under perlite) - a frugal version of the autopot watering system.

I had to leave it behind (there is only so much that can fit on two 30+ foot long moving vans.) I purchased it at a local hydro store for about $250. Shipping has to be pretty expensive on it, since 4x8' in the INSIDE dimension. It might have been cheaper to build the sides of a box, lay 2 inches of sand on the floor, and install a swimming pool liner - but buying a large tray was faster and not so expensive when you consider it is only about the price of 1 oz of street weed.

I'm currently using a slightly smaller 3x4' version in my flower room that I had been using for Late Veg. It holds 6 7-gal fabric pots or 8 5-gal fabric pots. The 4x8' could handle 12 7-gal pots. With 2 600W HPS, I maxed out at 8 pots with a space to stand in between the lights.

KIG buddy!

Thanks Buddy. I've been watching your grows for about 2 years. I never seemed to get my IPM, foliar sprays, and Teas together without messing things up chasing a theory or being late to do the right thing. You on the other hand, are a master of foliars and teas. You have a working system :) Doc Bud also has a system of foliars, teas, and nutrients that gives impressive results. He sells 'the kit' and 420 magazine peopleoffer support. If I don't follow it to the best of my understanding, it is me being stubborn or stupid. Following instructions is paying off in foliage - we'll see how the harvests go :)

I have not done outdoor spring garden plans. Last fall, I laid out the pathways, planted a few trees, installed 4 trellis arches in the backyard, 2 trellis at ends of the front porch, started fixing some drainage issues, planted about 200 bulbs and a handful of specimen bushes, vines and perennials. Over the winter I have collected half a dozen garden towers and elevated metal planters, a pair of medium sized urns, a smaller fountain for the front yard, and some garden furniture and benches.

In terms of garden design, I have the rooms and most of the furniture (although my wife has swiped some for inside decor.) As far as the actual plants go, I am sort of a throw it against the wall and see what sticks type of gardener. I'm not good at babying outdoor plants. If they need more than an occaisional trim, harvest, or hand watering they won't last in my yard. I'm a little gun shy after trying to install a garden in Massachusetts, but I have faith that things will grow better in the midwest. With 3 consective days over 60F while MA has snow on the ground, it's hard not to see things as brighter :)

A few of My tulips have started to nudge up, but nothing to take a photo of yet. Cardoon would be good. I'm the only one on the family that actually eats vegetables on a regular basis. Herbs and flowers will get more attention. My seed starting so far has just been to see me through the winter. I up-potted a Cilantro to quart sized today. I have 3 chamomile mounds, a mint, and an unidentified plant cutting from a neighbor in quart containers.

Before I start any outside work, I need to install a chandelier in the master bedroom, move the kitchen 'monastery' light to the dining room, and move either the master bedroom or dining room dome light to the kitchen. Also possibly rearrange the exercise equipment I just installed in the newly painted basement exercise room.

My next yard goal is to refinish the outdoor furniture that needs sanding and or painting and varnishing. Before I start, I'm going to spend a week painting the dining room and spot refinishing the floor.

When the ground is soft, I have digging to finish up my drainage dikes, prep for climbing vines, and finish defining the pathways in the back of the back yard. Before I start, I'll probably spend 2 weeks painting the living room and spot refinishing the floor and woodwork.

After that i'll take the 30-50 types of seeds I have left over from previous years that are suitable for starting indoors and see what germinates and grows. I may wait until April so that I can go from a 2" pot seedling indoors direct to outside without hardening off.
Before I start I'll be repainting, installing crown molding and baseboard molding, and hanging hardware in the downstairs half bath.

All plan are subject to change when my wife says - I want this growing there :)

But don't despair, at some point I will have the garden well enough in hand that I can relax and start painting the outside of the house

- - Dang I'm long winded tonight. It must be that chatty street weed my wife is smoking :)

Morglie's 1st Journal With Ace Sativas In Doc Bud's High Brix Kit

I gave most of it to my niece...and she hasnt complained. I only smoked it pre-cure, and it really didnt have a flavor, and the smell was strange...not like weed. The high...wasnt....and I could still feel my shoulders and back. I have a couple nugs left in a jar, but the smell isnt getting any better.

The Shark Shock CBD on the other hand doesnt knock me out or make me really feel high, but the pain in my back and shoulders disappears. I like it for the weekend when I have to do stuff, but would rather stay in bed. Couple hits and Im up and about getting shit done :)

I grew Channel+ from Medicial Seeds a couple times, and it's a breeze to grow and pretty punchy - listed at 15-20% THC and "very high" CBD. Nice strong flavor, good buzz - it went a little floral in the cure - I can recommend it. Medical has some good genetics. :cheesygrinsmiley: I don't really have issues that CBD would treat, but it comes very well recommended by the growers on s'finder.com.
