I always wanted to enter this contest however i always get intimidated by the other entries lol. I grow small budcicles so i know I won't stand a chance against these beastly plants lol. Good luck to contestants you all truly grow amazing plants!

As long as it's yours you can enter. Doesn't matter when it was grown. Personally I only ever enter recently grown plants
Yeah I wasn't planning on entering it over and over... It always makes me laugh when I see it. I wont be making another scrog grow for a long time. I have a bunch of various seeds down looking for a mother and will do some quick turns for a while to find some good genetics. Wont be for a year before I can enter a decent plant again probably. I mean I can enter stuff that wont win LOL.

I haven't been here long, but this month's entries seem insane. Budporn at it's finest.
The idea of members needing a minimum rep to be eligible for PotM or NotM is really interesting. I mean, if a new member is growing something worthy of winning a contest they'll probably be building up rep quickly.

That's true at some level, but i think it would be wrong to make so strict rules, that would lead to a closed community. The best think would be to make them more active with this forum, like i was inspired from someone and that someone from someone else and so goes on, if that makes sense

No worries on a smaller plant. Remember good things come in small packages. Plus last month I put in plant the was still veg I was so excited about entering POTM....I'll give you 1 guess how it did. Lol
But who cares, the real fun is sharing your grow with other like minded folks. Good luck all and keep them ALL coming.

If someone is only here to win a prize, they are selling themselves short. I won MoTM and the prizes meant nothing to me, I gave most of them away to fellow nominees, it was becoming one of the community that was important to me. Do not get me wrong, the prizes that the sponsors supply are great, and all, but the ability to meet like minded people and get to know them on a personal level is a much greater prize in my humble opinion. I have developed friendships with fellow members from 420 which to me is priceless. If a new member wants to just enter contests and not participate, let them, they are only hurting themselves by not giving the rest of the community the chance to get to know them on a personal level. I see it as their loss not the communities loss even if they win the contests. For me, the contests are like that party on Saturday night everyone wants to go to. If you go but do not inter-act with the others who show up, the only person injured in the situation is you. Who knows one of the people there might have ended up becoming your best friend, but if you do not participate on a personal level, you will never find out.
The contests are a great way to give people the opportunity to say hi and join in. If we as a community shun them because they are a new member or because they do not have many posts or Rep, then have only injured ourselves by closing a door to someone who may be a great person if we just give them a chance to open up to everyone. I think of the contests as that Saturday night party we all go to. Sometimes we are surrounded by familiar faces and people we know but other times we are the new guy/gal. What makes for a more enjoyable party, a group who openly welcome you to the party and just want to have fun, or the group who look at you funny making you feel like, why the fuck did I bother to come. I know what kind of party I prefer. One with free booze, lots of drugs and loose women... oh wait.. that was 35 years ago.. now I prefer friendly people.
Oh and for the record, the entries this month, well they are all simply stunning and everyone who has a plant entered this month should be proud to display them, they are all gorgeous
A counter to that, cause that's what I do, is some people have wonderful full lives, surrounded by friends and loved ones with no real time to commit to a screen, so they come to show what's possible...It's a little rich to say their missing out and believe that, on what? or rather, what are we missing out on? Maybe their grows are achieving their desire, maybe improving it isn't of a need at the moment for them etc to the many lines that can be drawn...Hopefully all are doing what they enjoy.. Whatever your reasonings, it's not superior than others or more pure, cause that means nothing in a free open space. I appreciate all that come. I'll debate or give my harsh truth that might upset and receive it back, but I hate political correctness if it's stopping a harsh truth (yes I can handle it, after a little sulk, lol).. It's here for all to enjoy. And the way it's been setup, it's very welcoming to those that have a chair and a bong sat down here or those who's footprints a washed away...I'm not going to turn away somebody that comes into my thread and compliments me.. I don't care if it's 5th post or 5000th, always nice to receive... And mods will eject if ones to rude and controversial (intimidating/threatening)...plus there's people here, in their makeup they want to help, so noobs can achieve their desires/needs, then there's dudes that want to be known as good growers, then there's peeps like me, just want to talk shit about the plants we grow and life we live.. Fuck whatever it is, just enjoy your own existence here and don't compare your reasonings to others, cause it means shit, nobody's better than anybody, we all the best.. . I just like to add another side, as to not keep a pack mentality going and chant starting.. Gemini in me, I see to many post in a row agreeing, my twin kicks in.....I love seeing the likes or the counters to what I've said and all the like that receives... Ah it's a fun place to be......BOO

Well I wasnt going to enter this month as I havent really got anything worth submitting. But i will give this one a shot.

I think what most people worry about is cheaters, not calling anyone that by any means but when they can see the plant grown in a journal and know its yours they can feel at ease. When it comes down to it, they have one vote the same as everyone else and it takes a combination of many to crown a winner.
Tbh i only enter the comps on here in the hope people might visit my journals, I have been a member here for about a year and a half now, into my 4th journal and i am lucky to get a reply once a week on them, really couldnt care about prizes and votes, there is no way i can ever win the popularity contest.

Yeah, at the beginning the conversation was about ways to make the contests cheatproof (or at least more difficult to cheat in), but I like the way it spun into a bunch of people from different walks of life sharing their opinions about the forum, why they're on it and what they get out of it. And in the end it proves keeping the contests open to as many people as possible is a good call. Just keep your eyes out for contest pigs.
As far as im concerned you can enter any plant you like and no matter how long you have been a member. Ive been journalling here almost 7 years.
Only cheating imo is people making fake accounts to vote and begging others for votes. And the mods are well aware of this and have always done a great job.
if someone is posting for the first time here what diff does ot make. That person could become a valuable member of this community. Lets face it most people vote for friends in these comps the best buds and plants dont always win.
I dont see what the fuss is about unless you are trying to get an edge for yourself to win a prize.
For those that contribute to this community regular and vote in contests, they will vote for what they feel is appropriate. so nothing needs to change.

To add on from what cultivator said... Just because someone only has a handful of posts on the forums here, doesn't mean they have not been growing for years and carry with them a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I'd like to apologize for starting this discussion of eligibility. I meant people who's post are only for contests and nowhere else. But I see that the community here is much more sophisticated and family like that it makes me even more humbled to be a part of it. Thanks for everyone being so amazing here on the best grower community site in the world.

This is my white voodoo only survivor of growers error but she's looking good out of a batch of regular seeds not bad for the only survivor haha
As always, beautiful plants and wonderful discussion. It's beautiful to watch this place evolve from month to month. Both the plants and the gardeners.
